Enter the Master

[Each new arrival's iMog buzzes with a message instructing them to gather for a worldwide adventure to obtain the power of Vaikuntha. If they follow the invitation's instructions, they will arrive at outside of the airship hanger on the morning of the 15th, with their meager belongings packed.

An Enterprise-Class airship, the Ragnarok, hovers outside of the Curti Center. There is a flash of light on the top of the ship.]

"WELCOME!"

[A figure, minuscule at this distance, launches itself off of the ship and hurtles toward the ground. As he draws closer to the ground, he starts to flip, landing with a flourish. An armored figure, sans helm, turns his toothy Zora grin to the crowd. With a shimmer, his armor transforms into a white mage's robe, and he sends a rush of wind through the crowd for dramatic effect.]

"I AM GANESHAN, THE JOB MASTER! GYA HA HA HA! TODAY, YOUR LIVES WILL CHANGE FOREVER."

[Ganeshan shimmers again, ruthlessly abusing the Chemist's Modifier skill to once again shift Job Classes so he can lower the airship's loading dock with a wave of his hand.]

"I BELIEVE THAT EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU HAS THE ABILITY TO MASTER THE JOB CLASSES. SOME OF YOU MAY MASTER MANY, OTHERS WILL PURSUE THE PERFECT MASTERY OF JUST ONE. BUT EITHER WAY, YOU'LL BE INCREDIBLE!"

[Ganeshan gives everyone a big thumbs-up. The out-worlders who are not scared off by this booming speech can feel free to enter the airship and prepare for their ride around the world. Hopefully some of the Curti Center's newest hires can serve as non-crazy less exuberant tour guides for the new arrivals.]

Around the World

[The Ragnarok will be stopping at every major city in Vaikuntha, with the exception of those cut off by the Imperial border closing. Characters can create top levels to respond to the Guild prompts and explore the cities themselves as the ship makes its stops. Each Guild provides information sessions, free food and trinkets for potential applicants, and once you're ready to receive your Asterisk, all you have to do is take some introductory lessons and fill out forms. Characters can receive up to two asterisks. Time to get to know your new world!

A | Necromancer Guild
[ Taking on the Bard Job had been a no brainer for Monika. She wanted to continue practicing piano, Bard was obviously the perfect pick. And she had been tempted to go with Scholar as her second choice, using a book as weapon was the best way to put her passion for writing to a good use in this world. But then, she'd seen what Necromancers could do, had talked with the guild members...

Being able to attack enemies-- And revive them if needed. It was the closest to what she had been able to do back in the game, right? It would make sense for her to go with something somewhat familiar... And something that would help her with testing the reality of this world. That and if she had understood things correctly, the modifier skill from Bard would work wonders with the first skill of that Job. For all intent and purpose, that was the logical choice.

But Necromancy... Ahaha... She couldn't think of a more distasteful Job on the list that had been presented to her. Would she really be a villain, a disgusting and vile person, if she were to pick on that Job?

Thus she wandered around the guilt for a bit, observing until she very discreetly approached the guild master to sign up. Hopefully, no one would see her do that. ]


B | Ghoul Powder Demonstration
[ Monika had asked one of the Master Necromancer if they could show her what Ghoul Powder actually did, out of pure curiosity. The description on paper was nice and all, but there's nothing like firsthand impressions. After a lot of talk and smiles, she finally managed to convince one of the masters. They proceeded to bring before her, and whoever else had stuck around, a Geezard in a very large cage. The Geezard was tiny compared to the cage.

The Master Necromancer thenfed it a bottle of ghoul powder and... What happened to the poor Geezard was nothing short of nightmare fuel (warning: disturbing transformation of a human into a monster in this video). ]

...

[ The cage was now barely big enough to contain the uncontrollable demon, which the Master Necromancer was going to put to rest before it could break out of the cage and run amok. ]

That's... Horrifying. To think they can twist a living being in such ways...

[ She probably didn't sound as horrified as she should be really. ]

[ Amanda wasn't actually there - instead, she spotted someone slinking out of the guild after the larger crowd left, while in the midst of her own bored meandering. A perfectly normal looking pretty girl, with a secret dark side? ]

Was it cool?

[ Asked loud enough to hopefully get her attention without like, entirely freaking her out? ]

[The cookies and pens were on display in the same room as the demonstration, meaning the Okuyasu saw Monika walk in and head straight to the Guild members rather than the snack table. He wouldn't blame her - those cookies were nice but not good enough to tempt him to the Dark Side, but it was worrying to see her.

Okuyasu had little reason to trust others from the first meeting, especially when he woke up in a new universe and had no clue what the other were like. Over the past week, he had seen her posts on Mognet, wondering if she was exactly as she appeared: a weird chick with no ulterior motives for her weirdness. No lulling him into a false sense of security before she whips out her power and kills him. No Stands, no magic, just a normal chick.

But her appearance slides her away from "harmless weirdo" and very close to "nutcase weirdo". No one willingly walks into a room about reviving the dead with a smile like that. Maybe if she had a similar power back home, which she clearly didn't.

Okuyasu sips his backpack just as she asks for a demonstration for Ghoul Powder. His curiosity is piqued. As he stands in the doorway, he imagines what this does to zombies - maybe it forces them under a Necromancers control, and this guy'll have it dance around like Micheal Jackson in the music videos. The image brings a smile to his face, even more so when a Geezard is brought out. Snacks and a show does make up for almost running into Monika.

His opinion makes a 180 once the demonstration begins. The Geezard convulses, its skin breaks out into red splotches, he swears he can hear it scream.

And he's five years old again, running out of the kitchen when Pops clutches his head and screams in agony as he collapses onto the floor. Boils form on his skin, and Okuyasu can't do anything but cry until Keicho comes home.

Is this the same thing as DIO's curse? Is the pain the Geezard and Pops went though equal?

He's frozen to the spot. Necromancer was creepy, but this pushes straight into the realm of unnecessarily horrifying.]

WOWIE... THAT WAS VERY. GROTESQUE.

[He's trying not to shiver. Truth is, he's... not sure what to make of this. It was a monster, but it became a bigger, scarier monster, and... oh.

They're attacking it. That's not okay. That's not okay at all!]

I DON'T UNDERSTAND! WHY ARE THEY ATTACKING IT? WHY MAKE A BIG SPECTACLE OF THIS IN THE FIRST PLACE?

[That's not fair to the monster at all. That's... really unsettling and Wrong.]

A. ANY GUILD

[Okuyasu has written off most of the Jobs thanks to the help of Madhuri and other adults. Ultimately, the sole physical Guild he wishes to attend is the Monk’s Guild in Hisan City, but that does not dissuade him from attending the other demonstrations. He quickly learns that all of them offer free food, free coffee mugs, free pens, and many other items his new home could use. He remains inside the buildings long enough to stow some things into his backpack and walk out before anyone notices and drags him to the initiation.

Sometimes this is easy. Other times the delinquent sticks out like a sore thumb. Why is he hanging around the Tactician Guild? Why’s he taking three mini first aid kits at the White Mage Guild?]

B. ILLUSIONIST GUILD

[He hadn’t decided what to take as a secondary, but the instant he sees someone teleport outside, he shoves everyone aside and runs through the doors.]

SHOW ME HOW YOU DO THAT.

[Unfortunately, that skill takes training and he’ll have to settle for levitation for now. He doesn’t care, he’s prodding every Illusionist on the shoulder and asking the same questions – how does teleportation work? What can you move? Is it possible to teleport something other than yourself? Are you sure?]

C. THE STREETS OF ARITO

[Throughout the trip, Okuyasu has kept an eye out for any “trash” lying in the alleyways. People tend to throw out perfectly useful things, even furniture, though he’d have to figure out a way to sneak that onto the ship.]

Hey, free eraser.

[Some student dropped their supplies. Finders keepers. But fate is a funny thing, with one good thing comes a terrible one. A Lalafell, noticing that an off-worlder split off from the group, corners her prey with a sudden assault.]

The nerve of some people, I swear! I asked them to research the history of Aritan art schools and one week later, they said they haven’t even started! What am I supposed to do, carry the project?

What?

I hate it when group members don’t keep up, it’s like they want to fail the class. And then I tell the professor and they’re like “there’s a peer evaluation at the end of the semester” What does that even mean?! I have to suffer and do the hard work while he parties, and I have to wait for him to face the consequences?

Um…

You get me, don’t you? Don’t you?

[Okuyasu backs away, but the student follows.]

C

[Today, it's become a chore to attempt to get any information collected, but at least there's a reason. It wasn't under she got into the swing of things and vocally admitted having no idea what was going on because she was an outworlder did someone tell her.]

[It wasn't a surprise to her then to see a Lalafell having cornered another person who didn't appear to be part of this world on the street. He'd probably be fine - but he's backing away and the student was following - maybe not.]

... Yes. And it's moments like this that make the idea of future collaborations with anyone already a headache.

[The loud yelly fishman honestly kinda rubs Yue the wrong way, though he can't quite articulate why...maybe it's all the yelling, or the fact he's still feeling kinda contrary about the whole "getting used to another new world" thing.

It's probably all the yelling. Anyway, seeing a guild apparently made specifically for people who don't do all that other cool fighty stuff...he's never been much of a fighter himself - or a job person, at that - and honestly, a lot of the ones they've looked at so far seemed kinda difficult for someone with bird feet and under ten fingers. But rock-throwing! That sounds easy enough, right?

He picks a rock up off the ground, turning it over in his claw, pondering thinky thoughts.]

[Alright, so he'd been planning to sit on his feathery butt and be a useless rock-thrower, but seeing people shoot fire (and other elements too I guess) really caught his attention. It's not quite the same, but something about the whole "magic fire" thing reminds him of home - both homes, really.

He signs up on an impulse, picking out a cute doll for a weapon (why is that even an option? He doesn't know, but he likes it), and...trying out a fireball of his own.

It's a much smaller flame than he expected.]

......Oh well. This works, I think.

[Having gotten tired of checking out all these guilds, Yue's wandered into the local chocobo farm instead. Look at all these birds! They're like, him-sized! They've got the same feet, sort of! Honestly the birds seem just as curious about Yue as Yue is about them, one even mirroring his movements to a degree. Tilting their heads together! Shaking their feet! Flapping their wings!

He's laughing, even if the stablehands look sort of unsure over there.]

[Dylas is the one who should feel unsure right now. He doesn't know Yue well; he hasn't spent a lot of time socializing with his new housemates. Without his old roommates, especially Simon, it's been harder to fall into a routine. It's even harder to get into a routine or wake up sometimes; being a snake encourages his laziness.

But here they are, both checking out the Chocobo Farm. Maybe he should take this chance to talk to him? He rests his hands on a nearby fence. The Chocobo don't come near him at all—he smells like lizard.]

... I wouldn't put too much weight on these if I were you.

[ Was he supposed to be helping his guild or not?? The Astrologian in front ot him gives an unamused glare, so he apologetically waves and steps away a bit. ]

Mine was "It is through love that you will find your voice", which sounds nice but also incredibly abstract.

Obviously that means you'll find another catch like--

No, Lyre. [ He looks incredibly embarrassed now while his moogle cracks up, practically on her back even in flight. ] How long have you been here.

Sparks Golsaucia - Dancer Guild
Spotlight
[ Sakuya got fawned over and teased by some old friends the second he walked in, and he politely stepped out of the way so the newbies wouldn't get swarmed. There are a few questions on how Curti work was going, why so many people arrived all of a sudden, and finally what may distract them from all the other loaded questions: a request for a dance demonstration. ]

Of course I haven't been slacking, what do you take me for?

[ Sakuya never really practiced where others could see, though, so even his co-workers would be surprised. Following some minutes of warmup, the reserved young man disappears in the wait for the music, and when it begins, his movements effortlessly shift from snappy moves to graceful twists and cartwheels, the brief glimpses at his eyes show deep focus, like he was on a world of his own, but when your eyes meet it's as if the dance is for you alone. It's at this time that he feels free, and he's light as a feather. All too soon, the music ends, and he closes his improv on his knees, a hand raised to extend to the audience. His breath is heavy getting up, and he bows, he lifts his head with a smile. ]

Harmless Fun?
[ Sometime after the dance performance, guildmates asked if he wanted to try some of the weapons-- of which Sakuya trusted himself very little once he put very literal combat stilletos on his feet. ]

... This is terrifying I will never be able to do this. [ He's going to be walking around with potential blood near his feet... "But think of the newbies!" came a cheeky whisper, and Sakuya sighed in defeat. Let's get this over with. Sakuya is matched up with a woman who he is well-aware was more experienced, but this makes it safer as to make sure the spar ends with no one hurt. They both chose the same weapon, making this highly dependent on their legs and kicks.

Sakuya puts up a good fight (more defense, really), and he can hear some of the gasps as a knife nearly makes its way to his face a couple times. He deflects her blow with his own high leg sweep, and backflips out of the way of a thrust and he nails the landing. Like, nailed too hard. His shoe is stuck. The woman stares in stunned silence then just laughs at him. ]

Still a long way to go, little Sakuya.

... I'm aware of that. [ And with his defeat, she flipped her hair without so much as helping him with the shoe ordeal. They are bith congratulated by their guildmates for a good exhibition. Sakuya hoped it at least interested some of the otherworlders. He stands aside, wiping off sweat with a towel, you can talk to him before he hits a shower. It wasn't bad for his first time weaponizing dance, but he seems vaguely... annoyed. ]

Arito, Baby Baby Baby Shuuuuush
[ Arito was nostalgic, even if Sakuya hadn't spent very long studying there. But the second they entered the city, his smile disappeared and was replaced with a very clear grimace. ]

Oh no it's...

[ People were incredibly noisy. Everywhere. Sakuya had forgotten in the time he was away. ]

Alright everyone ready yourselves, we have come during a dangerous day.

Yun'Ashia, Theatre Kid

[ After everything they've gone through, Sakuya is more than happy to see Yun'Ashia. Sure, not all memories were pleasant, but this was where his family was and where he grew up. He happily tours the newcomers-- except on the part of Chocobo farms where he seems in an uncharacteristic rush, and most enthusiastically at the Grand Theatre. ]

Who's interested among you? Maybe we can negotiate a bulk discount... Ahh it's been so long! They have such great stories showing right now... A tragedy, a romance deconstruction, musical... this looks new too. I wonder what it's about...

The most dangerous time of the year

[It's warm in Arito. The streets are clean, the cafes are many, and there's bound to be more giveaways at the Guilds. Okuyasu steps out of the airship with only hope in his heart, following Sakuya's lead on the tour.]

What's wrong?

[The Elezen and the oddly-dressed boy are easy targets for a group of Lalafell who make a beeline for the pair.]

Shiro | OTA

I was seeking higher elevation - Dragoon

[Dragoons rise and slam back into the packed earth. Shiro pays little attention to their landings. Every time they rise into the sky he can feel the wind as if he were up there with them. They flip and spin with such grace and speed he’s caught studying every movement they make. He leans back and smiles, his eyes locked on their leaping figures.

He takes his time reading over the paperwork and signing the forms. It would be stupid not to know every bit of what the Guild has to tell him about his first Asterisk. His heart beats quickly when he steps out onto the practice field. He checks his armor and peers up at the bright blue sky.]

Ready?

[After a few jumps he has gotten over his initial worries. The dizzying speed and rush of the wind is exactly what he needed to unwind. He can be found, jumping from one surface to another. He laughs at the brief feeling of weightlessness just before he comes rushing back down, spear point aimed at a target set out to orient new dragoons. He hits it with a thud and breathes in.]

Okay, that’s cool! [He pulls his helmet off to looks around.]


I'm just young enough to still believe - Paladin

[The veterans of the Paladin Guild stand shoulder to shoulder and move with such precision he can’t help but admire it. Yet there’s so many rules and regulations, no alternating styles of combat. It feels stifling. But he’d promised himself he’d pick up two jobs and this had been his other pick. There is a lot he could do to help and continue the job he’d signed up for when he stepped into the Black Lion through being a Paladin here. It’s that thought that solidifies his choice. Paladins seem trustworthy. He still examines every bit of text on the forms before putting his signature on them.

The armor clanks when he walks. Maybe oiling it where it joins together would make it less of a hindrance in battle. His only experience with swords had been in an arena for an entire year fighting for his life. He’d used a blade until the blade resided in his right hand. Most of his memories of that time are a fog he doesn’t bother to sort through. Focusing on what went wrong won’t make anything right.

Two handed swords are heavy and slow with limited movement. But he knows how to hold it properly. Shiro greets any sparring partner with a nod and falls into opening stance.] Come at me when you’re ready. Let’s make the most of the time they’re giving us to learn.

…please stand by. - Gourmand.

[He stares straight ahead as tantalizing aromas waft in the air. His stomach twists at the idea of getting anywhere near food. Shiro takes two steps back and grimaces. What the hell had that been? It had reminded him of ants swarming over the corpse of a bug or dead animal. Except that monster had definitely been alive. He puts his hand over his face. He has to get used to this. There will be a time when he works with a Gourmand.

If he freezes up in battle it could cost people their lives. Yet, he can’t quite get the images out his head. Or the sounds. His face turns pale and he jumps as a hand touches his shoulder. A counselor by the look of the dark haired lady peering up into his eyes. ‘Are you alright, sir? Would you like to take a moment and step into my office?’]

No. No. I’m fine. …I just need a moment. [From the depths of his pack Wimbledon’s voice issues forth. ‘I did tell you what they would do for a demonstration, Shiro! The Gourmands are incredible fighters and…eaters!’ That does it. He puts his hand back over his face.]

It is quite a bit much, isn't it? I was rather shocked as well! It's a bit disturbing to make a fetish into a job class, isn't it?

Ah... though I have played games with such themes before, it was easier to take it as a joke.

They really should just rename it Vore Mage, it would be easier to pronounce and remember. I think it's a bit more fitting as well.

[ The amusement park is... incredible. The lights are shining, the vibrant music clear through the rich speakers. She really wished she had 'them' here, they would have had an amazing time. Even if... Sayori wipes the small tears from her eyes, looking to one of the otherworlders beside her, whether or not they've known her previously. ]

Hisan City - H.C.F.T.W.C.U.J. / Freelancer, Dumps Self Into Recycle Bin

[ People who were a mess, who complained they couldn't do anything cool like fight monsters, and just wore sad faces begging to be cheered up. The most they'd do in combat was throw rocks... ]

This. Is. Perfect...! If we work hard enough, we can bring up the spirit in here!

[ "We?" The people raise a brow, even their own wondering why anyone would call them perfect when they were anything but. ]

I'm in! Oh, but if we're practicing throwing rocks at each other, we have band-aids, right...? [ But... why? ] How about instead of at each other we skip them by some lake! That'd be more fun!

Ka'Pandol - Puppet Master, Shaped Like A Friend

[ Sayori's eyes are positively sparkling at the octopus puppet. ]

Ohhh... this is cute! We can just take one home if we sign up?

[ Well, of course it wasn't that easy. She's deflated at the words "rental or bought", especially after noticing an adorable cat and dog not too far away from where their masters stood. Just as well, she supposed... she can't betray the oath of Joblessness she just took. But she had just enough if she changed her mind later. (Spoilers: she does.) ]

[Patches hardly knows where to look. There's so much! The city itself already looks so cool, but the theme park? It's like a dream world!]

Aqua ☆ OTA

[ A – Lavode City / Red Mage guild ]

[Aqua blinks surprised when her hand is gently taken and kissed by one of the Red Mages, a faint blush rising to her cheeks as she smiles shyly, and asks her questions – she is already fairly certain that this is the job that comes the closest to what she used to be capable of, but it's always best to be sure.

In the end, she takes the asterisk and goes to the practice range, to attempt spell casting. She points her borrowed rapier at the target, focusing on the warm burn of a fire spell – that was the first of the elemental spells that she learned from Master Eraqus too after all.]

Brasier!

[A small flame shoots along the length of her weapon, hitting the target square in the middle and setting it on fire. Later, now confident and satisfied by the results of her training session, Aqua sheaths her blade, and notes to herself.]

I believe I'll be able to get used to this. Though I wonder… do they only have red armor here? I don't think that's quite my color…


[ B – Lavode City / White Mage guild ]

[It's certainly convenient that her other chosen guilt is located in the very same city – Aqua has always been the one most apt in the healing arts of Eraqus' three apprentices and even though she's been assured that her Red Mage asterisk would unlock healing magic with a little more experience, she can't help but worry a little.

Terra is here after all, and given that group of boys in her house… it seems best to take on a healer's job. By the end of the day she's spent shadowing one of the White Mages, she is certainly exhausted, sitting by the entrance and slipping out of her white robe.]

No doubt, it will take quite a bit of training to get anywhere with either of those Jobs.

[Her hand clenches a little, aching for her Wayfinder. Still, even with it lost…]

I'm up to the challenge.

Red Mage Guild

Someone distinctly not a Red Mage is sitting in a corner, mumbling to herself, "Rrrrgh, would you just cooperate, you mana-inefficient... I really need to pick up swearing at some point," as she attacks an errant magitek gauntlet with a variety of tools pulled out a leather overcoat. Most of the girl's plate armor is beneath the coat, but the pauldrons are worn over it, both of them bored with a series of large holes from where magical energy pulsates, and Aqua can spot odd strips of nickel running up the sides of her armored legs and stretching around to her back.

"Wait, hold on." Connie scrambles to her feet, turning to face Aqua. She might have a solution to her problem. "Could you do that again? Um, that Brasier spell. I need to see it again. For scientific purposes." As if to prove her point, Connie snaps some goggles over her eyes, fiddling with some dials on the sides.

[ A – Hisan City ]

[It's strange how upbeat and normal this place – this whole world, really – is. Ryslig and Bavan too had had their own kinds of normal, but there had never been any forgetting the cruelty of that place, not with the Hunger and the Fog coming to haunt them all in regular intervals.

Hisan City almost reminds him a little of Heartland, really – peaceful bustling of people all around, people who probably have never wasted a moments thought on war before… he almost seems a little pensive as he orders a coffee, ignoring the vendor's praise of the different kind of blends that make his business unique… and maybe he regrets it moments later when he takes the first sips and ends up making a face – his drink packs a bit more of a punch than he's expected.]

…I guess, he wasn't kidding about his coffee.


[ B – Monk's Guild ]

[Shun watches the demonstration with sharp eyes, then clicks his tongue – looks like that mermaid hadn't been lying… this looks exactly like the offensive power he's looking for. He takes their asterisk the moment they allow for initiates, a little tense but patient enough through meditation as well as the yoga (He remembers the attempts back home to teach him both when he had learned what martial arts he knows from an older Resistance member. It's not his strong point, but he can bear).

Then, they offer him a sparring session to get used to his new strength… well, how can he say no to that. He stretches his arms, stance loose as he enters the ring and eyes his opponent.]

You better not be half-hearted about this.

[Because Shun has never even the slightest intention to go easy on anyone lacking iron determination and steeled strength.]


[ C – Yun'Ashia / Ranger's Guild ]

[It takes a while until the ship reaches Shun's other destination. In spite of the attempts of the locals to interest him in the one or other of their plays, he heads immediately for the guild and suffers through the demonstration in spite of already having made his decision.

Later, after having received the asterisk, he can be found at the practice range, trying to get used to bow and arrow… and clearly unpracticed (though maybe not quite unskilled). His expression is a twist between frustration and determination as he mounts one arrow after the other, and by the end of the day he does hit the target, even though not quite yet the bulls-eye.

He puts down the bow, and snorts to himself, reaching for the knife he's been given to start out with.]

I think I'll rather stick to knife combat.

[ One of the larger practice ranges has erupted into the sounds of gunfire. This might not be so unusual, but the speed of the shots and the frequency of dull thuds is a far cry from the masters' displays of skill.

Onlookers will see Hunk, wielding a giant gun, mowing down scores of practice dummies. The impressive thing is that he's not wasting many shots. In fact, he's aiming his shots with more speed than his frame would suggest, clearly aided by an asterisk he's testing out.

Wh-what?! No! [ He pouts, and drops his Vaikunthan cannon with a whine. ] Why do they have to have ammo?

[ Hunk had resigned himself to not riding a beast into battle, because then he'd have to feed it and take care of it on top of his moogle and his roommates.

But these chocobos were really, really trying to convince him otherwise. Despite Hunk showing no interest in the job, two chocobos had found themselves quite taken with him, and so he rests against a fence, two feathery heads nuzzling against and preening him. ]

She finally had the three things that made her feel more at ease, combining that sword with some wine tied to her belt and a pipe and *something* to smoke tucked away in her kimono.

She was noticeably more comfortable in her walk as she approached, leading with her hips in a way that would almost make her look like a man if not for... obvious differences.-

Monk's Guild, Hisan City

Fei wasn't quite sure what he thought of Hisan City, it seemed a bit... he wasn't sure he had a word for it (as he doesn't know the word hipster, at least yet) but it felt off. Like the people were kind of fake, or poseurs or something. The Monk's Guild, at least, offered an oasis from all of that, a calm and contemplative environment where he felt quite at home. He might not be able to use his Deathblows here, but the memory of his techniques still lived inside him, he would just have to improvise.

Working out with the Monks felt good, and it is here that anyone who came looking would find him.

Magitek Knight's Guild, Royal City of Myste Aura

Myste Aura was much more to Fei's liking, the focus on arts being quite resonant with him. The Armors were... unusual in his experience, a lot of guns and beams which Weltal definitely did not have. Still, he would stay and acquire his Asterisk properly, learning about the proper use and care of the machines.

After that, however, he was going to hit the town. He wanted to see more of this place, and maybe even paint some of its scenic vistas.

[ Okay so. Astrologian was great. Makoto had been spot-on with that pick. But Puppetmaster? Gave her a tiny minion. A tiny robotic minion that didn't complain like Neo did whenever she passed him another tome that looked like it might be useful. Not that it was easy to tell.

How could you find anything like this? It was so much slower, looking for keywords was almot impossible, not to mention there was so many more people. Doing research manually sucked. And should she run into any familiar faces? Well, after an awkward pause... ]

Hey. [beat] I-I'm looking for books on legends n' stuff.

[ They'd told her Arito was the place to go for this sort of thing. So. Here she was. She'd said she was in this for the long haul and she meant it. She just hoped the long haul didn't mean being buried in books. ]

Arito - B(lah blah blah)

[ She's barely exited the library, with several notes in hand, when she gets jumped by a very spirited Lalafell with a chip on his shoulder. How he'd spent a good deal of change trying to make his yard nice and impressive only to be upstaged by his neighbor. Or some such nonsense. A part of her wants to scurry back into the library, but she needs to find the others. ]

Ugh, seriously? [Okay you know what, fine. She can get into the spirit too.] You know what bothers me? I just spent all day looking for stuff I could have found in five minutes online. I don't even know if any of it's gonna be useful at all! There's no tech here so I gotta do everything the old fashioned way which takes so much longer than it needs to!

I want to go home and I want to see my dad and I want to eat his curry and I want to make sure everything isn't falling to pieces but I can't, because I'm stuck here and nobody knows how to get us home. I don't like crowds and I don't like surprises and everyone's jumping in my face yelling about stuff I don't care about because somebody thought it would be a good idea for a holiday!

[ The Lalafell seems a bit. Dumbfounded. Eventually he mutters "that's... a pretty good one, actually." and then he ambles off. Futaba shoots a very flustered glare around the nearby area, daring anybody to follow up. ]

En Route (night on the airship, anytime after the visit to Cloud City)

[ Futaba has and probably always will be a creature of the night. Astrologian is only amplifying that, because she's discovered a bit more about how its passive skill works.

It helps that the observation deck of the airship, while they're flying from city to city, is quieter at night too. But in either case she's up there, and she's got some paper... and appears to be sketching the land below them, frequently looking up to check the stars, stepping back a moment and lifting her hand to line things up and get a rough gauge of the distance (she looks a bit like Yusuke, and the thought both amuses her and makes her homesick).

There's a lot she still doesn't know about this world. But she can point you in the direction of every city they've been to so far, with absolute certainty. And that is really cool. Not enough to make up for Necronomicon's absence, but now in this moment, feeling on top of the world with almost nobody to see her looking ridiculous, it's not so bad. ]

En Route

Some nights, Connie had trouble sleeping. Not because of nightmares or anything like that. She wasn't that traumatized. Hopefully.

No, it was because she couldn't stop thinking. About Earth. About some of her more audacious plans. About why they were even on Vaikuntha. About Steven. About her family. Her brain had an unfortunate tendency to fixate on the worst possible outcomes, which was compounded when it had no external stimuli to distract itself with.

So some nights, Connie got out of bed, tired, but still too deep in a sea of doubts to fall asleep, and went out onto the deck. Sometimes she practiced her sword forms. Sometimes she tinkered with with her magitek in an attempt to stop it from blowing up in her face whenever she used it. And sometimes she just watches the ground pass by below.

This particular night, Connie drifts aimlessly to Futaba's position on the deck for a good scenic view to practice over, and doesn't even register the other girl as she begins going through the motions, the clanking of armor, heavy breathing, and the smooth slicing sound of a gunblade cutting through the air being the only things that betray her presence until she let loose a loud kiya.

TARK VARENTAIN - Ninjas

[Anyone who's met Bonnie up to this point without having known her previously would be excused for perhaps dismissing her as a serious contribution to any party composition beyond cheerleader. Considering her time has mostly been spent fluttering around and looking for someone else, she wasn't quite putting her own best foot forward.

Here in the Ninja guild though, the moogle seems to have gotten serious. At least for the moment. She signs up for the guild and accepts the asterisk at the first opportunity, much to the bewilderment of the guild clerk. But once she's set up she takes to the obstacle course they have set up for free running training to the best of her ability. Her diminutive size works against her more than her wings help, but she tries her hardest to finish the course once she begins and without any pity help, collapsing at the end as she tries to catch her breath.]

Ragnarok - In transit

[Picking out her first job was the easy one. It's the second one that's a source of pondering as she looks through the different flyers and notes shes been able to gather.]

Mmmm, maybe Dragoon? But Monk might make me a better fighter, kupo.

[She furrows her furry brow as she looks between the two when Kuvon twirls over and slaps a third down on top of them.]

'Ganeshin spoke wisely when suggested Dancer. You should take this, improve movement. Be less of furry slug.'

[Bonnie very nearly appreciated that advice until he got to the end, and turns away with a huff. Kuvon pays her offense no mind and resumes his own practice steps.]

Kiddilion

[There is...one other thing. Bonnie's been going over the world map since her arrival and the similarity to Crystallis in shape had been the first thing to occur to her. But since her own experience in world travel was limited she wasn't sure what to expect. The names though, that took a bit longer to click and there was one that stuck out to her in particular.

The moogle flutters through the streets of the smuggler town on her lonesome, her new ninja knife slung over her shoulder. Nobody has accosted her yet, but perhaps nobody wants to risk having their next moogle mail arrive in poor condition or mysteriously get lost. Or maybe they're just ignoring her. Or maybe someone's lurking in the shadows and is about to get the drop on her and needs to be dealt with.

Bonnie's own attention is focused on the buildings she passes, looking to each one with a slow buzz of concern filling her little body. At this point she's not expecting much but maybe...just maybe...if she sees a certain symbol...well she's not sure what she'll feel, but it's something to hope for, right?]

A. Safer Osu - Berserker's Guild

The people Terra's talked to say the Berserker is one of the strongest Jobs, so he decides to start off there. He wants to be strong, really strong, strong enough to defeat any threat. So here he is. At first, he's delighted by the sight of people practicing, demonstrating their physical prowess. That's how strong he wants to be.

But then a few people step forward to show off the berserker's true power, and the air in the room tenses. It's just a demonstration, right?

Wrong. When it's over and the white mages have tended to the wounded, Terra can be found staring into the middle distance, unable to stop the replay behind his eyes. Mogila tugs on his hair, trying to get him to move, but he brushes her off without seeming to really notice her.

B. Von Oktavia - Paladin's Guild

It's a good thing the Guildhall is built with visitors in mind, because Terra was not looking forward to having to go inside one of the typical buildings in this city. If he could even fit through the door. It involves ducking even to get inside the Paladin's Guild, but at least he doesn't do something embarrassing like wedge his shoulders. This time.

Inside is a relief, and not just because of the higher ceilings. Everything seems to have a routine, and after recent events, routine is beyond appealing. Plus, all the Paladins seem so nice! And strong and capable, obviously. Maybe this is what Terra's been looking for? The power to protect...

"Isn't this great?" he enthuses to the nearest fellow-traveler, whether they seem excited or not.

C. Nakagawa - Swordmaster's Guild

If Von Oktavia was impressive, Nakagawa is comfortable - not least because it was built at least partly with human-sized people in mind. Terra's definitely enjoying that part. But he's also enjoying the familiarity of the Guild, the people training in ways that are more or less the way he's been trained. It doesn't have the reckless energy of the Berserkers, but a feeling of serenity that reminds Terra of his home. Maybe here he can find some help with how his turbulent emotions lead him astray.

"Hey, want to spar?" he will ask anyone who seems like they know (or once knew) how to use a weapon.

D. Kiddilion - Geomancer's Guild

Terra has mixed feelings about this place. On the one hand, the Geomancer's Guild is elegant, and he respects their connection to the earth. He's never been particularly talented at magic, but this might suit him.

On the other hand, Kiddilion doesn't seem like a place he wants to spend much time. It seems, in fact, like the kind of place he should be doing something about, or would if it wouldn't count as meddling in other worlds' affairs. Does that still apply if he's stuck here? Better to be on the safe side.

But maybe if he were here, he could try to help somehow. There must be people down here who need help... Terra looks visibly torn, paying more attention to the city streets than the action of the Guild members. He has a sucker's face; someone should probably keep him from giving all his money to beggars, or getting it stolen.

It was important to gather information whenever possible. Whether it be report on the Dream Width, advanced puzzle theory, or a personally-collected analysis on the skills of other Jobs, in Connie's opinion an opportunity missed to learn more was an opportunity wasted. Knowledge is the most deadly weapons, aftera ll. So it was that she was currently looking for sparring partners in the Swordmaster's guild. Well, she was also aching for a live training session rather than just rotely going through her forms.

Unfortunately, most people failed to take her seriously due to her age, despite her obvious familiarity with armor and weapons. So when Terra asks her, Connie perks up. "Absolutely!" she says, relief evident in her voice. "I was wondering if I'd ever be able to find a good sparring partner at this rate."

[It's only now he's realized this is his first time being fully stripped of his powers with no chance of restoring them. He silently thanked his mentors for showing him how to fight without using them as a crutch. Except he didn't calculate the hit to his endurance to be this bad. After given some starter armor and spear, he did some practice jumps.

Ah. Ma. Zing. This fluidity in movement and speed was pretty close to what he normally operated under. The armor would have to take time to get used to. When he finally took a break, he removed his helmet and sat down at the nearest bench. He gives a polite nod to whoever passed by.]

I definitely can get used to this. How about you?

B. Nakagawa
[Even before landing in Nakagawa, the view of it from the airship took his breath away. As much as he was used to the city, going back to the countryside felt like coming home to the young and now former Japanese god of agriculture. Upon landing, he made his way to the Cavalier guild. Sure he had experience with swords, but he just found himself drawn to the idea of being a fighter on...giant bird back.

Of course, the first challenge of getting into a guild was obtaining a mount. It honestly seemed simple enough. Take some of the greens on the field and hopefully one will approach because the mount will choose their rider or something. Sure enough, he managed to get a several of them to circle around him. Except more chocobos began to take notice and began to join the mass in the middle of the field.]

Okay every birdy, you'll get some greens. Someone. help.

[He's suddenly yanked from behind by the collar and out of the circle. When he turned around, he was face to face with a yellow chocobo but he looked down when he heard several cheeps at his feet. Why wasn't he told how cute the chicks were.]

Guess that means we're partners. Now you need a name. And...does this mean I'll have to take care of your brood too? Oh gods.

[Ira hates hospitals.

This is something that anyone who knew him from Crystallis knew without a doubt, despite how many times he visited his friends in crystal stasis back then. Yet there he is, shadowing someone. Watching as those they're shadowing tend to the wounds of the injured with their magic. He has no idea if he can do it, himself--gods know that he doesn't do the whole nurturing thing well--but he can't help but want to... do something useful.

Especially considering how rare healers were back on the last world he visited. And while cards were a familiar thing to him, and he wanted to steer clear from anything close to what his creator could do...

He blinks in surprise when, after all the paperwork, the asterisk takes with ease.]

... Huh. Guess I have the ability, after all.

B. Back to the Shadows (Ninja Guild, Tark Varentain)
[It was... unsettling, not being able to sense the members of the guild before they appeared. He'd gotten so used to having his natural sense of smell back that being without it again nearly caused him to jump when the ninjas appeared above and around them. Most of their movements familiar to him, even if he didn't practice them before nearly as much as another had.

'And as you plunge back into the dark, remember that the shadows your foes lurk in are yours as well, Assassin.'

The last words he'd heard from his stabmom come to him with stunning clarity as he watches, and that's all it takes. He goes to sign the hell up with a nostalgic look in his eyes.]

C. Well, There Goes Lunch! (Gourmand Guild, Hisan City)
[He'd been warned not to eat anything before the demonstration. He's suddenly glad that he listened for once in his life. He's just... standing there, wide-eyed, in a bit of shock as the Gourmands show off their ultimate skill.

He's the guy who could absorb people's life forces and take them as his own and even he is grossed out to the point of almost wanting to dry heave.]

[Someone help this guy; his brain is broken.]

[Noctis is suddenly glad that a certain three people refuse to let him out of their sights.

He glances around as they head for the guild, attempting to blend in with the crowd as they go. Though with how his normal walk is one that makes his royal blood obvious, it's fortunate that he stays more in the center of the group. Because he can see the looks he's getting from some of the less than savory characters, and it makes the hairs on the back of his neck stand up knowing that he'd be powerless to do anything to dissuade them from attacking.

That is, until they reach their destination. He doesn't even need to see the demonstration to know this is an asterisk for him. He signs up without a second thought, smirking with confidence when he sees the familiar flick of fire in his free hand.

What he can't get over, however, is that it's not a rod or staff that he finds himself able to channel his magic through, but...]

What do you mean, "try a doll"? [The hell is this guy suggesting it for?]

B. "I Miss Warpstrikes" Part I: Parkour Hardcore (Ninja Guild, Tark Varentain)
[Okay. So he may or may not have been taken in by just how cool it was to watch those at the guild walk on the ceiling. He can't help it. It's so much like what he's used to, sans the warping. He can't help but be excited (in his own, muted way), to try out his new asterisk.

Thankfully, this time, with less embarrassing weapon choices.

Yet he still stops in the street when he notices a little girl, likely a local, drop her doll in a rush to get home as sunset neared.]

Ah- hey! [Thank the gods for the natural speed boost, as he rushes from the group to pick it up and try and catch up. Yet the girl seems terrified, and really, he can't blame her. Though when he does catch up, he kneels down to her level, holding out the small doll to her.] You dropped this.

[He holds it out to her, smiling faintly in an effort to be reassuring. The little girl hesitates briefly, before taking it from his hand and running away. Only stopping once she realises something: "T-thank you!"

He can't help but chuckle, waving as she runs home. ...Wait where'd the others go? Crap.]

C. What'd I Miss? (Gourmand Guild, Hisan City)
[Warnings schmarnings, it'll be fiiine. He thought, before the first part of the demonstration puts him to sleep. Only waking up once the rest have either cleared out to run to the bathroom, or have been herded towards the councelors who were waiting in the wings.

Noctis just blinks as the crowd is suddenly that much smaller. Huh.]

[Sadly, he can't really pick up this asteriswk yet - Astrals, does he want to though - but in the meantime, while he waits for his bestie to get his own? He's completely enamored by the chocobo stables. Unable to stop himself from petting one of the majestic birds after offering them a gyshal green leaf.]

[ Hunk rolled his eyes, but he was still clearly smiling and in high spirits. ]

A - Whenever, Wherever

[Worries about friends old and new aside, Selphie wasn't about to let the chance of a worldwide adventure pass her by. Explore each city, do a quick sweep of the area, grab a map in case she finds herself back in the way and...

Successfully managing to get separate from her non-directionally challenged moogle at every step. Seriously, someone is in dire need of a toddler harness. There's a young woman with brown hair precariously curled up at the ends in a pair of jeans and oversized yellow sweater wandering around a market looking for directions.]

Excuse me... can you give me directions back to the airship docks? I kinda got separated from my Moogle and I'd really appreciate the help!

B - Everybody gets a Staff

[A bit on the disheartened side after learning that all the skills she'd learned at Garden would have to be remastered, Selphie was up to the challenge as she finally decided on her first job of Stave Master. She stood outside of the guild hall and appeared to be inspecting every nook and cranny of the outside of the building before eventually making her way inside.]

I don't know you're so nervous about, Selphie. The guild masters aren't anything like those instructors you told me about from Garden.

[Selphie scowled at her moogle.] Hey now! They weren't that bad. I was just... kind of a bad student?

Come on, times a-wastin'!

C - Yun'ashia Round 2

[Ever eager to learn a different fighting style, Selphie had settled on a ranged class that was completely different from the one she'd originally chosen on Crystallis. There were no swords or magic to learn. Instead, there was a series of targets scattered around a shooting range with a basic bow and arrows on a table in front of her. Truth be told, passing the test to become a Ranger was even more trouble than picking up Stave Master.

Selphie listened carefully to the Guildmaster's instructions and nocked an arrow into the bowstring after putting on the offered bracer. Is she exercising the technique properly? That emboldening beat has him moving through the city like a beeline. It's a guild, with no real fighting, and instruments.

Sign him up! He looks over the choice of instruments until he finds what he's looking for, a perhaps forgotten sitar and he runs his fingers along the neck. It's probably wildly out of tune, and it's not quite as nice as Arpeggio, this one having seven playable strings so he will probably need some time learning her quirks and he hums. That prospect could be exciting, if he felt excitement.]

Spark Golsaucia - Dancer Guild

[Music is something easy enough to draw him, like a moth to a flame and here a guild of people who are moving and flowing to the beat. Dancing alone is more more along the performative type, giving him a bit of a more genuine smile, a memory from long ago perhaps.

It seems highly unlikely and he really barely only wanted one guild to visit, but he's decided to take a second asterisk since it seems to go so well with the first.

It's just a lot of form filling really. At least he's coordinated enough to move to the beat when instructed.
