What: Ganeshan, the resident Job Expert, will be taking the new arrivals around the the various Guilds so they can collect their chosen Job Asterisks as noted in their applications.

Enter the Master

[Each new arrival's iMog buzzes with a message instructing them to gather for a worldwide adventure to obtain the power of Vaikuntha. If they follow the invitation's instructions, they will arrive at outside of the airship hanger on the morning of the 15th, with their meager belongings packed.

An Enterprise-Class airship, the Ragnarok, hovers outside of the Curti Center. There is a flash of light on the top of the ship.]

"WELCOME!"

[A figure, minuscule at this distance, launches itself off of the ship and hurtles toward the ground. As he draws closer to the ground, he starts to flip, landing with a flourish. An armored figure, sans helm, turns his toothy Zora grin to the crowd. With a shimmer, his armor transforms into a white mage's robe, and he sends a rush of wind through the crowd for dramatic effect.]

"I AM GANESHAN, THE JOB MASTER! GYA HA HA HA! TODAY, YOUR LIVES WILL CHANGE FOREVER."

[Ganeshan shimmers again, ruthlessly abusing the Chemist's Modifier skill to once again shift Job Classes so he can lower the airship's loading dock with a wave of his hand.]

"I BELIEVE THAT EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU HAS THE ABILITY TO MASTER THE JOB CLASSES. SOME OF YOU MAY MASTER MANY, OTHERS WILL PURSUE THE PERFECT MASTERY OF JUST ONE. BUT EITHER WAY, YOU'LL BE INCREDIBLE!"

[Ganeshan gives everyone a big thumbs-up. The out-worlders who are not scared off by this booming speech can feel free to enter the airship and prepare for their ride around the world. Hopefully some of the Curti Center's newest hires can serve as non-crazy less exuberant tour guides for the new arrivals.]

Around the World

[The Ragnarok will be stopping at every major city in Vaikuntha, with the exception of those cut off by the Imperial border closing. Characters can create top levels to respond to the Guild prompts and explore the cities themselves as the ship makes its stops. Each Guild provides information sessions, free food and trinkets for potential applicants, and once you're ready to receive your Asterisk, all you have to do is take some introductory lessons and fill out forms. Characters can receive up to two asterisks. Time to get to know your new world!

At times I'd think other jobs would serve as support to your skills as you grow into them. Especially tactician. You direct, others follow.

Hmm I'm not sure. That sort of role... I'd rather not. Instead it's better to give various options, possibilities and then see where things go.

[Of course he would play the role of simple advisor, but puppet things from the shadows. Now that he was really aware of this tendency. It was simply that sometimes you had to take matters into your own hands.]

So you intend to use it to advise, not lead. [Shiro nods, taking that in. Their spread as far as displaced individuals has had a lot of variation. There's a lot they could do with that.

At least to cover ground while seeking their answers.]

Fair enough. It's always better to stick to what you feel you do best.

No one is trash. We all have things we’re not comfortable doing. If you don’t like the idea of leading. You don’t want to lead, it’s that simple.

[He could have argued, but he could see by Shiros demeanor that it would be a pointless endeavor, but it didn't mean he had changed his mind. Though, perhaps he didn't feel as deeply about the topic as he had in the past, but it still didn't change his overall world view.]

How you see it. Specifically how the staff responded to the inquiries. [He’s curious how others took the way the staff behaved.]

They were junior members, so I don’t personally see them as representing the staff as a whole. [Just to clarify.]

Dismissive. Though, I can't speak much on the events since I didn't experience them myself. Though, considering everything it's worth looking into. Also... that's how stories like this start.

[It was a good example of how far he's come that he didn't just flat out call the staff trash, but, he still didn't think highly of them. Not that he thought highly of the other people who came here like him either, but, where he could think of himself as an accident, the others might have a reason. They might be special.]

They seem horribly mundane, like a background character.

Actually... they are definitely NPCs!

[His eyes narrow, faint threads of irritation sparking in the dark of his thoughts. This isn't a game.]

No. They're not. This isn't a game or a story as much as it would make it easier if it were. For now we're here and this is the reality and world we'll be interacting with. Under estimating it would be a huge mistake.

[He might as well offer his own view.]

They strike me as junior members of the staff that weren't even enough personal relations training to mitigate the stresses of unexpected work. One of them was able to look past possible bias to listen.

The other tried to shut down anything she didn't like and treated us like were vermin. That sort of attitude wasn't present in the older staff I discussed the problem of the Dream Width with.

I never said it was a game, but that doesn't mean roles don't exist.

[They were NPCs, everyone else was probably a player character... he, was a mistake.]

And? A grudge? It's not really a big deal. I would just ignore them. They're not important.

We do have to work with them for this trip and for later. Until we have our own resources it would be a bad idea to ignore them. [He wouldn’t ignore them even then. It’s in his tone of voice that he would pay attention to anything said. Roles. He disagrees with that. He’d once thought he had a role.

Then the universe taught him the only roles that exist are those who can fight and those who can’t.]

...I wouldn’t say they had a grudge. There hasn’t been enough of us over the years for that. [Almost an us vs them. Something easy to do in text or over a com. People do it all the time.]

It felt misplaced.

That can still be a grudge. No one likes sudden change.

[Which would explain why they were acting that way. But, it didn't really bother him particularly.]

Things will work out one way or another, time will tell everything.

Time and an active effort of exploring. Having these jobs will make that a little easier. [It hadn't seemed like a reaction to sudden change. But he lets that matter drop.]

Like I said on the network, I'm going to see what I can track down about that legend and the different versions. If scholars are really studying one version...that's a lead. One to follow up on when it isn't their exam time.

That is a good start. Though, consulting the scholars is a good start, going to the source and researching as well is important.

Though, research focus should be on the ones that aren't studied as much.

Hmmm... then reading the one where the heroes don't die is the most important start.

It was. They might even let me compare them side by side. Have to see when I get there. Either way, it becomes a question of what does it mean that this ‘she’, the goddess of death might find us?
