What: Ganeshan, the resident Job Expert, will be taking the new arrivals around the the various Guilds so they can collect their chosen Job Asterisks as noted in their applications.

Enter the Master

[Each new arrival's iMog buzzes with a message instructing them to gather for a worldwide adventure to obtain the power of Vaikuntha. If they follow the invitation's instructions, they will arrive at outside of the airship hanger on the morning of the 15th, with their meager belongings packed.

An Enterprise-Class airship, the Ragnarok, hovers outside of the Curti Center. There is a flash of light on the top of the ship.]

"WELCOME!"

[A figure, minuscule at this distance, launches itself off of the ship and hurtles toward the ground. As he draws closer to the ground, he starts to flip, landing with a flourish. An armored figure, sans helm, turns his toothy Zora grin to the crowd. With a shimmer, his armor transforms into a white mage's robe, and he sends a rush of wind through the crowd for dramatic effect.]

"I AM GANESHAN, THE JOB MASTER! GYA HA HA HA! TODAY, YOUR LIVES WILL CHANGE FOREVER."

[Ganeshan shimmers again, ruthlessly abusing the Chemist's Modifier skill to once again shift Job Classes so he can lower the airship's loading dock with a wave of his hand.]

"I BELIEVE THAT EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU HAS THE ABILITY TO MASTER THE JOB CLASSES. SOME OF YOU MAY MASTER MANY, OTHERS WILL PURSUE THE PERFECT MASTERY OF JUST ONE. BUT EITHER WAY, YOU'LL BE INCREDIBLE!"

[Ganeshan gives everyone a big thumbs-up. The out-worlders who are not scared off by this booming speech can feel free to enter the airship and prepare for their ride around the world. Hopefully some of the Curti Center's newest hires can serve as non-crazy less exuberant tour guides for the new arrivals.]

Around the World

[The Ragnarok will be stopping at every major city in Vaikuntha, with the exception of those cut off by the Imperial border closing. Characters can create top levels to respond to the Guild prompts and explore the cities themselves as the ship makes its stops. Each Guild provides information sessions, free food and trinkets for potential applicants, and once you're ready to receive your Asterisk, all you have to do is take some introductory lessons and fill out forms. Characters can receive up to two asterisks. Time to get to know your new world!

[Yue's never seen one of these birds before either, but hey, he's Yue! Not recognizing things everyone else thinks are normal is...normal!

He gently scritches the chocobo beside him, smiling a little wider at Dylas's honest belief.]

That sounds like a good idea. Do you want to try feeding him? We can look for snacks together.

[sullenstallion]

[At that, Dylas scoffs. Firstly, he's not about to climb over the fence. He's pretty sure the farmer will see him slithering in the grass and mistake him for some kind of monster. Secondly, so will the chocobos.]

I'll pass. No bird would be stupid enough to accept food from me looking like this.

[If it were anyone else, he wouldn't say 'looking like this.' But Yue knows. Yue knows this isn't his original body.]

I mean, they might accept it, if you're careful...

[Or if they notice that Yue's okay with him? They seem to have accepted the harpy as one of their own - a weird freak chocobo, but a friendly one.

He does understand the farmer problem though...glancing over at where they're standing, off at a safe distance....]

...Would you want to do something else? Like looking at other places, maybe. [Tourist stuff!]

[sullenstallion]

...Really?

[He doesn't really believe that. He's long and scaley, and reptiles have a scent about them. He's learned that the hard way. He always smells distinctly like a snake and there's so much of him he can't hide it without taping air fresheners all over his body.

But it's nice to think so. He's been cold to Yue so far, he knows that, but...]

I'm fine with watching you. It looks like you're having fun.

[And he might be a little jealous. He's not sure yet.]

[Despite having gained a lot of bird instincts, being wary of snakes is something that's never occurred to him...because he lived with one for so long. So he isn't sure why Dylas seems so reluctant to come near the chocobos, and honestly hasn't noticed if any of the chocobos were avoiding him.

He smiles a little at the comment, giving one of the birds an affectionate scratch before moving closer to the fence.]

It's more fun if everybody's having fun though, I think. I can see the birds some other time, right? Since we live here now, and all.

[sullenstallion]

...Are you really a 'monster' or are you just some kind of pure idiot?

[He exhales in exasperation. How long has he been living with this guy? Weeks? And he still has no idea what to make of him. There's no way someone like him has ever 'hunted' before. He doesn't move from where he is, though, only taps his clawed fingers against the wood.]

I doubt there's anything fun for me around here, so you don't have to drop what you're doing for me. I'm not your friend yet.

['Yet' may come back to haunt him.]

Eh? That's mean, I'm not an idiot...

[Rude!! He pouts a bit, leaning on the fence.]

If we do things together then we'll become friends, right? Like playing together, or hunting together, or something. [one of the chocobos warks.] See? He agrees!

[sullenstallion]

Not just an idiot. A pure one.

[There's a difference. He laughs, even though he's being mean and he knows it.]

You'll have better luck making friends with the others, kid. I don't really play, and...

[His voice drops.]

...hunting's only going to get us in trouble.

[twomeals]

[He isn't sure how to interpret that laugh, honestly--and the use of the word 'pure' further throws him off. Is this a good thing? A bad thing? Probably bad, but he's gonna put off considering that for now.

More importantly--]

We need to eat somebody eventually though, right? That's just how it works.

[sullenstallion]

[It's a good thing. Dylas says it like it's a bad thing, but he's a little envious of Yue. To be one of what they are and still have fun like that...he wishes he had an easier time relaxing. Instead, he's tense almost all the time, and almost all of their interactions in their house reflect that.

Maybe he should try and show Yue he's...not a bad guy. He's a monster, but...ugh.]

I'll take care of that for you. I'm not sure how yet, but we have time. Can you just...trust me on that?

[twomeals]

[It was easier to get used to their situation, considering his age, and the sort of people he's grown up with over the years. Monsters are friends! Humans are edible friends?

He tries his best to ignore that part, honestly.

Dylas's comment gets him to pause, blinking at him with a questioning sort of look, before nodding.]

...I trust you. Are you sure...you don't want help though, or anything?

[sullenstallion]

[To Dylas, monsters are allies. And...back home, it's not like monsters could take the easy way out and die, so they were all in it together.

He sort of likes living despite everything.]

What's with that face?

[The questioning look that came first, anyways.]

It's better if only I do it. ...but weren't we supposed to be doing something fun out here? Not talk about that?

[He feels a little like he's disappointing a child on a trip through a park or something.]

[Living is nice...he used to be okay with dying, but it's gotten harder over the years, despite everything.

He still looks sort of unsure honestly - unsure what to think of Dylas's answers, unsure how Dylas feels about things, unsure about--well no, there is one thing he's sure about.]

--Ah, that's right...we'll find something fun to do! Maybe we can go explore the town? Everything's still pretty new to me, at least.

[Hopeful! Like a kid asking to visit the ice cream truck after his Disneyland suggestion got turned down.]

[sullenstallion]

[Living is nice. Dylas used to think his life wasn't important, but even with all the sins he's committed...he likes being alive. Isn't that a pain in the ass.

He shakes his head, ready to turn Yue down again. He doesn't want to go into town. It's crowded, and...oh. Yue is making a face.]

Er...sure. That's what I was thinking. [His lie is so obvious that he clears his throat to try and sound more hopeful about the future. He's about 2% successful.] This place isn't too bad. It's rustic.

[twomeals]

[Oh, did Dylas say yes? Forget the lack of sincerity, he perks up immediately, smiling happily at Dylas before flapping his wings to get himself perched up on top of the fence. Look, he's taller than you!]

Mm, it's really peaceful! It's different from home, but it's not a bad place either, I think.

[sullenstallion]

Do you mean 'home' home, or...?

[Ryslig. He's more interested in hearing about the former. He doesn't know a lot about Yue, but he feels pretty fortunate to have been placed in a house with someone who understands his plight.

A little annoyed by the 'taller' thing, he decides to feign yawning before grabbing Yue's leg and pulling him off. Playfully. Hopefully he doesn't hit his fluffbutt on the fence.]

[twomeals]

[He hadn't actually thought that far when he said that...there's a pause, a quiet hum--or there would be if he hadn't just got pulled off the fence. Instead he lets out a surprised squawk as he tries and fails to not fall...straight backwards, back to the chocobo side of the fence.

Crash!]

[sullenstallion]

[No! Dylas was only trying to be playful, sort of like how when Doug approaches he sometime trips Doug and pushes him in the lake. He dives under the fence the moment Yue starts to falter, so Yue will land slightly-more-comfortably on Dylas' tail instead of on the ground.]

I'm sor—h-hey! Ow!

[Before he can even apologize, a pair of pink chocobo have come over to start pecking at Dylas' hair for attacking one of their own. He holds up his arms in self-defense.]

Tell them to stop!

[twomeals]

[oh no his chocobrethren are here to save him

Despite the fact Dylas is apparently in mortal peril, Yue lets himself lie on his tail for a few seconds before finally pushing himself back up and attempting to pacify the birds.]

Ah...um, hey, stop fighting! He didn't mean to hurt me. Probably. So you don't have to attack him, okay?

[Pat pat pat don't worry, birds!!]

[sullenstallion]

[The Chocobo immediately stop, letting Dylas 'stand' back up. He's glaring daggers at the birds even if he's the one at fault. Also, is it just him, did Yue deliberately wait?

...Ugh. He probably deserved it. He opens his mouth to say something, but one Chocobo pecks him right on the forehead like it wants to get the last word in. Dylas yelps and swipes at it, but the Chocobo prances away, warbling like it's laughing.

The other remains there, nuzzling Yue protectively.]

I wasn't trying to hurt you. I was, uh. Just messing with you. I guess that's worse.

[twomeals]

[Yue is totally innocent here! Look, he helped out and everything! He laughs a bit as he returns the bird's nuzzles, obviously feeling terrible about Dylas's plight.]

Hmmmm...it's fine. Nobody's hurt, right? So I can't really be mad about it. [Plus revenge has already been had, thanks chocobros.]

[sullenstallion]

[He wants to say "I'm hurt" because that one Chocobo almost jabbed its beak in his damn eye. He lifts himself up and slithers back over the fence, putting some distance between him and the remaining Chocoboo.]

You...what? You aren't mad at all? I was messing with you. You shouldn't just take it.

[twomeals]

[Oh he knows perfectly well that Dylas got hurt. But you're alive! No eyes lost, no harm done.

Also he's kind of enjoying these reactions?]

Ah, did you want me to be mad then? I think that one still wants to peck you some more...

[He turns to look for the other bird as he keeps petting the one that stayed with him.

To be more truthful though, he's just not that great at keeping up anger, considering he didn't have the energy for it back in the day. It's an emotion he's still learning to allow.]

[sullenstallion]

Hell no. If anyone was going to peck at me, it should be you.

[He's already back over the fence, anyways. He reaches up and runs a hand through his hair, straightening it before he crosses his arms and goes back to leaning on the fence. He looks a little more unhappy than before, even though he knows he deserves it.]

Are you coming or what? If you want to stay in there, that's fine.

[He's going to wait for Yue, though, because he's going to feel like an idiot if he slithers off and Yue sits there like that.]

That's kind of hard though, since I don't have a beak.

[He gives the chocobo by his side one last pat, waves goodbye at the other one, and hurries to hop back over the fence.

Making sure not to land on it this time, though.]
