But the painting at the top of the stairs was definitely Adrien. Most of what he knew about Adrien's Paris involved superheroes fighting supervillains, so he found himself bracing for the worst. He wasn't going to get any weird superpowers here- all he had were his wits.
So he started wandering through the foyer, hands in his pockets, as he began taking steady steps towards that painting. Papa Agreste sure looked like the sort to shelter his kid, all stern and stoic. As the faint echoes of music reached his ears though, Hunk turned and began to follow at a nice, relaxed pace. It's probably where the brunt of the memory is focused on, and to try to announce his presence, he even starts trying to whistle along.
It's a nearly impossible feat since he doesn't know what they're playing and he's not the best at whistling, but he's gotta get his chuckles somewhere, before a supervillain makes everything uncomfortable and dangerous.

"Is something wrong?"
A woman's voice.
"... I thought I heard something. But maybe not... sorry, can we start at the beginning again?"
That voice Hunk might identify.
no subject
But it was the woman's voice that surprised him. The portrait on the wall didn't have a woman in it. And as he took a few more cautious steps down the hall, Hunk realized that Adrien never mentioned any female caretakers. No maids. No grandmother. No mother. So who was that other voice?
Curiosity overtook him, and Hunk found himself sneaking towards the outside of the doorframe, out of sight, but trying to surreptitiously peek in. He needed to figure out what he could now, so that as soon as the piece ended, he could step in.
no subject
Instead, at the bench before a piano was the very boy Hunk already figured the memories came from, and beside him... a woman with similarly blonde hair and green eyes. They even shared the same smile as they played their duet, off in their own world.
no subject
Weird. Creepy, even. Adrien seemed pretty honest and forthcoming about himself so far, so the only explanations for why this woman hadn't come up before were either that she was just as cooped up as he was, or she wasn't around. Both were weird.
Hunk took a step further into the room, trying not to interrupt the duet. It was pretty, and a nice break from memories trying to kill him. So he'd appreciate it while it lasted, and make his presence known the moment it did.
no subject
The piece slowly, gently comes to a close and both of them look at each other. A few seconds and then they both laugh, quieting down at their fooling around.
"What piece is next?" Adrien asked, beaming. He doesn't see Hunk, and if his mother does - well, she's only part of the memory.
no subject
"E-excuse me, I'm sorry to interrupt, but I... uh..." And Hunk trails off for a moment, realizing that he doesn't lie all that often. He didn't want to rain on Adrien's parade in one fell swoop, so he'd have to. Break the memory slowly.
"I'm here to fix the arcade machines? Something about faulty wiring." Hunk had no idea if they even had wiring, but he knew he was good enough with machinery that he could probably fake it in a dream.
Hopefully.
no subject
He shouldn't take too long to consider....
"There is?" She looks at Adrien who first, doesn't respond. However, a few seconds pass before he nods. "Yeah... I guess Nathalie finally called someone to repair it..."
Though, he's still frowning, staring at Hunk. The memory manages to hold.
no subject
"I'll need to look at the machines for a few minutes, but I'll need someone to keep an eye on the games to make sure they're working. They're hard to hear from behind, with all the fans." He chuckles, but then look towards Adrien, sporting a sad frown of his own.
"Wanna gimme a hand?" Hunk was so happy to work with a nicer memory, but the idea of shattering it? It hurt. A lot.
no subject
Adrien’s hesitant, but his mother nods. ”Well, I won’t distract you two. Come find me when you’re done...”
“... w-wait, Mom...?” Adrien stutters, but she’s already walked towards the door and slipped from the room. In a memory, she shouldn’t slip away so easily, but for someone like her, it’s not strange to just disappear... Lowering his hand, Adrien slowly turns to look at Hunk.
no subject
"You never mentioned you mom before, Adrien." But Hunk has so many questions. Is she alive? Is she cooler than his father? Why this memory, and not something involving taking on a supervillian? It was confusing, it was overwhelming, but Hunk knew exactly what he wanted to say.
"I'm sorry." For interrupting the memory. For never asking about his mother. For having to break Adrien out of this memory that was, by all indications, very nice.
no subject
Despite talking about his dad, but he guesses then would’ve been the time to talk about family.
Looking away, Adrien shakes his head. “You don’t need to apologize. It’s only a memory... we’re not supposed to be here. And she’s been missing for over a year... I need to focus on the present.”
no subject
"I kinda get it, Adrien." He sighs, closing his eyes for a moment. "I can only imagine how worried my family is for me. They might not have any idea whether or not I'm safe; they probably don't even know I ended up in space!" Sure, there's a chance some messages reached them, but they're in another dimension. Hunk's not going to stop missing them anytime soon.
"But my buddy Pidge, her dad and brother went missing for over a year, and she never gave up," Hunk's eyes open, and there's tears welling up in the corners of his eyes, "so neither should you."
no subject
"No. I'm not giving up on mom." Adrien nods. "One day, maybe I'll find her, or learned what happened."
no subject
But with the stuff he knew about Adrien's dad already... The birthday presents, the sheltering, how Adrien had never gone grocery shopping or been to a mall, and with this stuff about managing appearances and covering up the disappearance of his wife? Adrien sounded like a slave. Trapped.
It made Hunk very, very unhappy. And it shows in his face, a stern, serious companion to the encouragement he just gave. But he sighs, knowing neither can do anything about that here, and just places a reassuring hand on Adrien's shoulder.
"Once we get out of here, you'll be able to beat those supervillains, with these asterisk things. You'll be a superhero, too!" But with that said, a smile starts to creep in at the corners of Hunk's mouth, overriding the scowl. He figures then he could say he knows a superhero. And that'd be cool!
no subject
Looking up, Adrien blinks. Hunk's encouragement gets at least a light chuckle.
"I think you mean beat the monsters. If my dad ever shows up here for some reason, we're never telling him what I've been up to." Because he wants to be the hero... He has to be the hero for this world too and make sure he helped it before going home.
no subject
"No, I meant when you get back to your home, not Vaikuntha." He rolls his eyes, and laughs a bit. It's hard to stay mad around Adrien, he's just a cool dude. "And if your dad does show up, you can still do your own thing. Be a student, fight monsters, go to school..." And then he grins, a giddy look on his face. "I mean, you're a Ninja, he can't exactly stop you from running off and having fun."
no subject
"... Haha, that's true. I'll just have to Parkour away...!"
no subject
"How do we get outta here?" Hunk's eyes drift to the window, then to the door he entered through. He looks a bit nervous. "Does the front door work?"
no subject
"... We can try. I'm trying to remember how they said the memories would end."
no subject
"What if we're stuck here?" And the grumble from before resurfaces as a bit of a whine, until his eyes light up- he's clearly thinking a mile a minute on escape routes. "Or... what if we have to break out?"
And then he takes a few steps towards the bedroom door. Hunk's getting antsy, and the discomfort in his eyes is obvious as he looks back at Adrien. "I don't remember where the front door is."
no subject
"... If we break out, that's not going to hurt, right?" Because... this was his memory right? Would that hurt? It was his mind...
But, shaking his head, he managed a smile. "Don't worry, I know where the door is. Everyone gets lost their first few times here..."
no subject
"I mean, I think once we get out it'll be fine! We just have to make it to safety. In magic space." He's obviously nervous about this. "Do we wanna try running through the front door when we get there? In case we just end up floating instead."
And then he just laughs awkwardly, because this was gonna be one heck of a trip.
no subject
Turning the corner, they're almost at the main foyer again with that dang painting. However, out of the corner of his eye, Adrien sees that the hallway they just left behind was falling apart. Okay, they might be on a timer.
no subject
But as soon as they get back into the foyer, Hunk starts to hustle a little more. It's creepy, and since Adrien's gonna open the door anyway, he might as well not have to stand around holding it open.
