What: Event log for the Once Upon A Dream Event! Should your character have their own memory, start your own top-level with said memory. If not, then tag around in other characters's memories! Furthermore, feel free to use the Mingle threads at the Curti Center and in the Airships for non-memory related CR. Please refer to the OOC Post for details and plotting. Plot Memories and the second Airship Mingle will be unlocked on May 25th.

Ignis didn't hear him at first. His entire focus was on the altar, where Lady Lunafreya and Noctis laid, Ravus shaking from grief and anger. He had already made few steps to them when he heard a noise behind him.

Someone else was here.

He instantly summoned his blades, whipping around, eyes searching frantically. This- this is-

This didn't make any sense whatsoever.

"...How-?" Ignis glared, bringing up his blades in defense. "So- you were following me." This guy lied to him, huh? Well, it wouldn't be the first time people tried to trick him.

"Whoa whoa whoa!" Reno raised his hands defensively, totally lost. "Ignis, I have no idea where the fuck this is! I-I'm unarmed, yo!"

Not that that really meant much, he could still fight if he had to. But he didn't want to, not when those daggers were obviously elementally charged. Oh, and also he liked Ignis and his funny friends, they were alright. Yeah, that was a reason too.

Ignis sizes him up, taking the note that he's unarmed. But the voice from before is still ringing in his ears and thunder broke above them. He doesn't have time for this.
"I have to-" Ignis doesn't even finish the sentence and heads for the altar, still out of breath, rattled and numbness coursing through his body. What was that? A vision of things that are yet to come?

Yet, as he steps forward, closer to the white-haired man, Ignis doesn't have time to focus on that now.

"Noct!"

Lady Lunafreya... her hand, still resting on Noctis' shoulder, transferring her life and light over to him. Keeping Noctis alive. Ignis could feel his throat close up. The light disappates softly, slowly, as her life fades away.

"...First, the Lucians stole from me my mother..." Ravus spoke up, his voice laced with anger and grief, "...and now they make a sacrifice of my sister!"
Ignis had only a mere second to react and come between the blade and his King, daggers manifesting in a flash to block the attack.

"Get out of my way!"

"What are you doing?" Ignis asked, his dagger slowly losing a battle against the longer blade.

"What I should have done long ago- riding us of this menace!"

Finally repelling the blade, Ignis pushed Ravus away, using whatever was left of his strength, away from Noctis, Lunafreya and the edge of the altar. He loses his balance the first time and falls, but is back on his feet almost instantly and pushing Ravus away again, back to the hall before the altar- where he left Reno that he seemingly forgot about.

Whoever the man was, he posed a threat to Ignis. Reno couldn't allow that. He ran after the other man but stopped short when he saw the bodies at the altar.

"... Noctis..." he breathed. No wonder Ignis was so concerned about the other man when he'd arrived. Reno had seen Noct since, and he seemed fine -- but he was decidedly not fine here. If it was only the two of them, then dammit, Reno was going to help make sure he'd make it.

Gritting his teeth, Reno ran forward again to take on Ravus from behind, looping his arms over the Fleuret's and pulling tight in an effort to restrain him.

Unfortunately for both Ignis and Reno, the memory of Ravus just slips through the man's hands, unbothered and unaffected by Reno's presence. Seeing this Ignis wonders what the hell is the man doing, knowing that he's unarmed. Ravus is exceptionally strong- without a weapon, Reno will get injured.

But he doesn't have time to say anything as Ravus raises his sword, imbued with electricity and lashes out at Ignis, his blade slashing at an incredible speed. Ignis, with his daggers also empowered by lightning, meets him blow for blow, repelling the attacks.

"Stand in my way and you, too, shall meet the same fate: death!" Ravus snarls at him after each attack.

"Come to your senses man!" Caught in a stalemate, two crossed daggers and sword trying to cut through them, Ignis tries to talk some sense into the older man. He finally manages to break it off, and again- meets Ravus' every attack before finally finding an opening to kick him away.

"I understand the pain you must feel, but Noct isn't one who did this to her!" Ignis continues, in a desperate hope that his words will wake Ravus up. Sadly, the words fall on deaf ears, and the two continue the fight- the sword and daggers clashing, the electricity destroying the ground around them.

It was a strange sensation, feeling someone else's body shift through his own like sand through his fingers. "Wha...?" Reno didn't have much time to analyze it, though, as a rogue blast of lightning came flashing toward him.

"Shi-- !" There was no time, nowhere to go. Reno could only wince, huddle, and pray. And try not to die again. Because that would suck. It didn't matter how many times he came back, it was not fun and it was not currently on his to-do list.

He was stunned when the bolt passed harmlessly through him only to shatter more of the remnant stone behind him. Wide-eyed, Reno gasped for breath as he tried to understand the situation. "What the...?"

Ignis didn't have time to pay attention to Reno- Ravus came at him full-blast, blinded by his rage and grief, using everything he has on his disposal- from his sword to his Magitek arm. And he knew how to use it, charging it up to the point of overloading and then releasing the shockwaves through the ground. Ignis switches from fire element he was using to electricity to zap away from him and dodge the area of effect.

But Ravus was right on him in the next second, the metal arm grabbing him by the neck and lifting as if he weighed nothing. For a moment Ignis' mind went blank, his breath short, but the thought that Noctis will die if he doesn't make Ravus calm down is what led him. He finally manages to focus to kick the man in the chest, sending him back and forcing him to release Ignis.

"Lady Lunafreya came to her King's aid in his time of need," Ignis tried again as he exchanged blows with Ravus. "She was fulfilling her calling!"

"Don't try to justify this! She didn't need to die!" The ground exploded under their attacks, sending them both away from each other for a second. Then Ravus charged again.

"Ignis!" Fuck, now the white-haired guy was strangling him? It didn't even fully register that Reno couldn't alter this scene in any way, he tried to run to Ignis' aid yet again but to no avail. Thankfully Ignis was able to free himself. Reno could only watch helplessly as the two continued to fight.

Why...? This seemed uncomfortably familiar... but it couldn't be happening again, could it? Reno looked around again and his gaze fell upon the bodies at the altar once more -- Noctis and the girl apparently known as Lunafreya. Slowly he walked toward them. If this was what he thought it was then he had to test it. No matter how harsh or cruel it could be.

"Hey! Asshole!" Reno called to Ravus, heel gently balanced at Luna's temple. "I will stomp her pretty skull in an' defile her bones if you don't back the fuck off!"

It was a lie, of course, though a pretty convincing one when said with firm confidence. But truthfully, Reno didn't plan on doing anything. Because if he was right... Ravus wouldn't even notice.

Ignis' attention snapped to Reno as words hit him, shock and terror just making his skin crawl. Ravus, however, didn't hear Reno- didn't see him either. His attention was solely on Ignis and the attempt to pummel him into the ground.

But as much as distraught Ignis was from what Reno said, he had to keep up the fight- Ravus doesn't see Reno, but he does see him. The fight continued for a long while, Ignis energy reaching a critical point when he finally, finally manages to knock Ravus down and stab his electricity infused dagger through his magitek arm, rendering it useless for a moment.

For a long moment, Ravus didn't move. Ignis was on one knee, trying to catch his breath. Eventually, the older man stands up, still with Ignis' dagger in his arm and heads toward where Noct and Luna were. But... not to attack Reno.

"I always knew..." Ravus' voice was now barely above breathing, calmer, and filled with sorrow, "...that you would face your fate without fear, fulfill your duty without regret."

Ignis followed close after him, tired and battered, feeling lucky that he managed to subside Ravus' anger even just a little bit. But...

"...But part of me... always hoped..." Ravus crouched down, cradling Lunafreya's face gently, "...that I might see you happy one day... burdens lifted."

Ignis squeezed his eyes tightly as Lunafreya's ethereal form appeared in the air and Ravus desperately tried to reach her. "Sister, please... don't go!...please, don't leave me..."

That was about what he expected. Reno sighed and his shoulders fell, nodding to himself as he let his foot rest -- phasing straight through the girl beneath him. He stood there, ankle-deep in Luna as Ravus held her.

"Ignis... Ignis, open yer eyes."

Reno finally began to walk toward him again, through the corpse and through Ravus, through Luna's spirit, like a phantom himself. He basically was. "Ignis, this isn't happening -- not right now. It's not real."

Ignis did open his eyes. And froze in the spot. What... what is going on?

"What do you..." he took a step back, frowning. His head gave a vicious thump, making Ignis wince. "-there's-- there's no way this isn't real... how?"

How is he doing that? What is going on here? He felt tired- so tired to even think. Yet, he didn't allow himself to sit down and take a breath for a moment. He doesn't understand what's going on.

"What are you doing?" Ignis stopped paying attention to Ravus and people laying on the ground, now directly addressing Reno.

"I mean, I'm sure it was real. But it's not happening now." Reno frowned. This was, admittedly, the worst case he'd seen, but he had no doubts -- this was a memory. He'd just never known someone to be unaware of it before.

"This is all you." Reno had no power here. He couldn't touch anything, change anything. He could only wait until it was over. If Ignis didn't know, maybe he was the only one who could change it.

"Is this why you were worried for Noctis? When you arrived on the Ragnarok, is this the last thing you saw?" Reno's eyes probed Ignis', searching for any kind of answer in the other man's expression.

So this was... some sort of memory? But- how did he get here? Damn it his head hurt. It feels as if he was fighting Ravus for hours without an end. Carefully, he steps closer, his eyes locked on Noctis, before he looks up.

Sure enough- another "him" is standing there where he was earlier, playing the memory out. He nods slowly. "Yes, this is why I was worried. However, the last thing I saw--"

As if on cue, Gladio rushes in and the Memory-Ignis instantly walks up to him, asking about Prompto. However, Gladio's attention seems to be on the white-haired man.

"Ardyn-!" Ravus all but snarls at him and goes for his blade, only to be blasted away by Ardyn's magic as if he was a mere feather.

"He's the last thing I saw..." Ignis felt dread go down his back as the MT's forced him down on the ground and Ardyn effectively knocking him out with his shoe. The memory ends there, leaving Ignis and Reno to stand in the rain, on the Altar as the people fade away.

"Ardyn!" Reno bared his teeth and reached for his weapon, stepping forward instinctively before he realized again that it would have no effect. He clenched his fist instead and let it fall to his side.

"That bastard..." He grimaced. "I didn't know he was from your world. I'm sorry."

Ignis grabbed Reno by the shoulder, seeing that he wanted to step forward. Since this is a memory, the guy can't do anything about it. Still- the way he says Ardyn's name-

"...you. You've met him before." It's more of a statement than a question. And you can bet your everything Ignis will want an explanation. The memory, however, is starting to blur and will eventually kick them out from it because they are conscious, but-! He needs to know!

Reno nodded, still feeling disgusted at the sight of the villain. He stared at Ardyn until the scene began to blur... but it wasn't restarting. Now that Ignis was aware, Reno realized, the memory might end.

"The last world I was in," Reno admitted to Ignis quickly, unsure when the dream would collapse. "Find me when you wake up!"

The last world what-? Reno's voice was muddled with the sound of rain and magitek troops rushing in and knocking down Ignis from the memory. He himself can feel his consciousness melting away as the memory was coming to an end.

He will definitively have a long chat with Reno about this. Once his feet are set firmly on the ground.

"Ig -- find -- !"

The scene before him faltered then failed as Ignis, the present Ignis, disappeared. The rest of the memory fell to pieces after that, throwing Reno back into the blackness of the Dream Width.
