Player Plot: Bizarre Bird Behavior!
Should you happen to have missed it, the plotting and information post for this event can be found here.
A. Choco-Chaos!
Perhaps the first thing anyone notices is the noise, the incessant squawking and warking of so many startled and disgruntled chocobos. Then comes the smell. Ew! In the early morning hours dozens, maybe even hundreds of chocobos invaded many of the cities of Vaikuntha, and while for the first few minutes some may have been elated to see them, attitudes quickly change. The chocobos are panicked, running around without much rhyme or reason, trampling on flower beds, knocking over merchant stands, and making such a ruckus even the dead couldn’t sleep through it. Any food they find is destroyed within minutes, and anything they’re curious about meets the sharp end of their strong beaks. While they’re generally harmless birds, they have the capacity for devastation.
And none of that mentions the, uh, other mess live animals tend to make.
Despite being within the city limits, they are far from tame. Any attempts to approach the birds will be met with either an angry warning wark, a display of puffed feathers, or the chocobo just straight up bolting away. This seems great, as maybe they can be corralled, but… Nope. While this works to an extent, as soon as the birds get too close to the city borders they turn tail and jump straight over the heads of the people attempting to be rid of them, running back into the city to make even more of a mess in their renewed panic. What is there to be done about them?
B. Lurking Lunchers
Should anyone be so inclined as to find out why the chocobos feathers are so ruffled, they need only walk to the edge of the city. Stalking around just beyond civilization are fearsome beasts known only as chocobo eaters. Based on the feathers stuck between their huge teeth this is probably an apt name. The monsters have little interest in humans, but become very interested when a chocobo wanders too close to the outskirts of town. The chocobo eaters are quite aggressive and will gladly take on anyone bold enough to make a challenge. Adventurers may attempt to fight them, but it seems like just when you send one packing, another bigger monster shows up. Was that a baby chocobo eater you were just fighting? You could have sworn it was an adult, with how big it is!
C. Fight or Flight
At last the time has come. A gold chocobo trotted in from off the horizon and rounded up what she believes to be able fighters, herded them into groups, and partnered them with a chocobo that will fight by their side. Ironically it seems to be the feathered member of the party that actually knows what to do, and the teams are led by their respective birds out into the battlefield to take on one of the ferocious beasts waiting out there for lunch. Fight as hard as you can and don’t let the birds down. Defeat might not mean death for you, but it certainly would for the chocobos!
Once the battles are won and the flocks free to return to their natural habitat, some of the brave battlers will find themselves with new feathered friends. Others will not, but everyone will have a handful of greens. If you missed this opportunity to get a chocobo, or you have a taste and want even more, head on over and check out the chocobo capture/breeding system that will be available from now until Eternity.

Connie, Lelouch, & Euphemia - Modded Battle
Srs Connie is Srs
Snapping her goggles over her eyes, Connie continues. "One, they're pretty tough physically. They hit hard and they can take a lot of punishment. Euphemia, Lelouch, I'd recommend that you stay out of melee range. I'm a fair bit better at rolling with the punches, but I'll be a bit more useful at a distance since chocobo eaters have one big weakness: fire.
"Lelouch, if you've learned Broil, this would be a good time to put that spell to use. Open up with Bio and make sure to refresh it every once in a while, but other than that just focus on broiling that thing inside its shell. I'll bombard it with Fira Lasers and Fire Bullets. While hopefully the chocobo can keep the pressure off us, if she gets overwhelmed or one of us starts attracting too much attention, I'll step in to melee range to take it head-on while Euphemia focuses on healing up me and the chocobo. I've got the Moonlight Module on my gunblade and some pretty tough armor, so I should be fine close-up if need be. Speaking of, Euphemia, if you have Regen yet, immediately cast it on me and the chocobo as soon as one of us gets into melee range of the monster.
"Another thing to keep in mind is that if we pack a big enough punch, we might be able to knock it onto its back for a little while and attack it while it's vulnerable. We should aim to close the fight out that way, but I wouldn't rely on it. To wrap up, as long as we keep our heads cool, we should be fine. Any questions?"

Team A+ Chest Mission Start
He loosens his sword from its scabbard and swings it once, away from his companions. It's heavy compared to most weapons he has ever used but serviceable. "Remember, I'll keep its attention." He can take the hits as a paladin and still keep fighting. "Everyone ready?"

Adrien Agreste & Mythra - Modded Battle
Just as it seems this battle might only be the three of you, another chocobo comes rushing out of the underbrush with a loud WARK! That serves as a battle cry. She’s old and scarred, missing use of an eye, but perhaps the fact that she’s been through whatever caused those injuries and lived is a good sign. (You should see the other guy.) After exchanging a quick nuzzle, the two birds take positions on either side of the party and stare down the enemy.
Team Bird is not the Word
"Achoo!"
Okay, distance wouldn't entirely help, but adjusting his grip on his sword, he shifted his stance while closing the distance between himself and the monster. It had muscle so taking out its strength with Shooting Star, even a little bit, should help.

Team OkuUenLean meetup
Then again, with the company he was travelling with, he shouldn't be surprised. Uendo offered to accompany him on his trip, and being one of the few adults Okuyasu trusted the most, he agreed. That also meant visiting shrines and sitting outside while his housemate prayed and fasted or whatever Summoners did. That lead to a brief return to Arito to rest up, leaving Okuyasu cooped up in the inn, spying on the pedestrians below. He had Stray Cat to keep him company, despite its cat-like dramatics over being transported to a new home and losing its powers. It could at least flip over bugs on the windowsill with its breath.
The sudden stampede of Chocobos lifts its mood. Okuyasu grumbles at the smell, leaving Stray Cat to hungrily stare at the birds while he slams the door open.]
Fuck it, we're checking out now.

Knowing he's been rather poor company to Okuyasu doesn't exactly feel great either. He really ought to think of some way to make it up to him...
The slam of the door startles him out of his daze.]
Wait, what? What's going on? [He scrambles up to follow after Okuyasu.] What's all that commotion outside?

Futaba/Kanji/Naoto (Futanjoto?), Lavode
With all the birds losing their collective minds and charging around the resort city, he wagered he needed to ready up early to go all out. He'd seen dabs of blood over the cobblestone, and it sure wasn't Hypello. When he ran an armored boot over one of the droplets, it left a streak. He frowned.]
You're right, it's fresh... It went this way, then! Suit up and let's go!
Maybe KanNaoBa? NaoJiBa? KanTaTo!
Alright... ready.

Bonnie/Madhuri/Papyrus (PAPYBONHURI!), Tark Varentain
[She could only be taken aback by the chaos, the way the large birds kicked up mud and snow every which way. Windows had broken, carts had been ruined, and there were more than enough bird doodies to fertilize an entire city's gardens. Madhuri gingerly stepped around a pile, and fetched her guitar. Her fingers smoothed over the polished wood as her tail lashed in annoyance. Her gaze hardened as she began to play. An odd golden member of the species had nudged her closer to a familiar skeleton and a cutely-dressed moogle, so she wagered she'd lend her aid to them as they saw this through.]
Ready when you folks are. Let's close the curtain on a very naughty culprit!

Team Two and a Half Men - Unmodded Battle
Travelling was turning out rather poorly for Nyx so far. He was attempting to get used to the various cities and areas between practicing, as well as grow accustomed to airship flight. When there became news of chocobos running scared into cities and causing havoc he chose to investigate along with so many others.
Splitting from the group Nyx traveled to Lavode to address the issues there. Being approached by a particularly brilliant colored chocobo wasn't the most unusual thing to happen, if Nyx wanted to be honest. Being introduced to other people was beginning to push it though.
He leans on his lance casually, his newly recovered kukris hanging on his belt where they... were essentially useless he would soon learn.
"So. I'm Nyx. What are we thinking in terms of a plan here?"
no subject
"My name is Terra. Pleasure to meet you, Nyx. It doesn't seem that complicated: go out there and fight that monster, whatever it's called."

Team Breath of Fire - Unmodded battle
...Though, admittedly, with something this big, he was glad he had a couple people backing him up. Though he tried his hardest not to stare at Yue the entire time they were in transit-- there was something deeply uncomfortable about seeing someone get stuck in a partially-human form like that. And then there was the matter of Azusa, who had already heard Red's share of boasting. Whether for the Chocobos or only for backing up his own claims, he had to make this good.
But that had never been a problem before.
Red whipped a fresh bone out from a pocket beneath his new Magitek Knight's armor and popped it into his mouth, leering at the gaping-mouthed, twisted-armed beast they were set up against. His iMog was fine staying in Mocha's hands- and he could leave her to make sure that their feathery escort didn't end up in that thing's jaws.
"Don't think it sees us yet. Either of you got a plan in mind?"
no subject
Honestly the fact it ate birds was making him feel about as nervous as the chocobos. Would it mistake him for a chocobo? How many had it eaten? Maybe he should keep his distance? Not that mages needed to be on the front lines in the first place.
Still. This was a battle, and he was a warrior of some sort. It's not like he hadn't killed anyone before, right? He could do this. The harpy held up the little stuffed fox that was his black mage weapon, staring at the enemy with a determined - if somewhat nervous - gaze.
"We could...hit it from behind? Get it before it gets us."

Reno, Johnny, Clarus - (semi-modded?)
"Of course I'll help!" He had Johnny's back no matter what -- even if a giant bird was involved, prodding and warking and such. Though he was surprised to find them herded all the way to Ela Nhor -- and with Clarus Amicitia, no less. Proper introductions would have to be made, but perhaps not while they were facing... that.
Reno grimaced and shook his head. "That's gross-lookin'," he muttered, facing the chocobo eater with brandished daggers. He was pretty sure their feathered companion agreed with him.
P much.
The chocobo shifted nervously from foot to foot, surreptitiously glancing at his companions as if to wonder if these humans could truly save him from the horror before them. The yellow feathers stuck between the monster's teeth suggested this chocobo, should they fail, would hardly be its first meal of that nature.
The Chocobo Eater in question eyed them all up, but its attention was primarily on their avian companion. It hungered, and by its demeanor an experienced combatant could tell it wasn't taking the human threat as much more than a bump in the road to a chocobo dinner.
"I can draw its attention while the two of you try to damage it from behind or the sides," Clarus suggested in a voice that was rather final, studying the monster before them and attempting to strategize. "It seems to have quite a bit of defense from the front."

Team What - Hunk, Dylas and Sparks - unmodded
Before they can even make it out of town, they're approached by a gold chocobo, who is glad to see some strong adventurers. Sparks has never seen a gold chocobo before, but he'd heard about them back on Crystallis. The bird urges them to follow along, but Sparks looks to Dylas and Hunk first.]

He was about to enter
flightfight mode, when the particularly sparkly chocobo made itself known. Honestly, between the sand and the fact that yellow and gold were similar, Hunk didn't pick up on the difference. So he can't help but look over at Sparks and chuckle. ]That's... that's a chocobo, Marshall Sparks.
