Player Plot: Bizarre Bird Behavior!

A. Choco-Chaos!

Perhaps the first thing anyone notices is the noise, the incessant squawking and warking of so many startled and disgruntled chocobos. Then comes the smell. Ew! In the early morning hours dozens, maybe even hundreds of chocobos invaded many of the cities of Vaikuntha, and while for the first few minutes some may have been elated to see them, attitudes quickly change. The chocobos are panicked, running around without much rhyme or reason, trampling on flower beds, knocking over merchant stands, and making such a ruckus even the dead couldn’t sleep through it. Any food they find is destroyed within minutes, and anything they’re curious about meets the sharp end of their strong beaks. While they’re generally harmless birds, they have the capacity for devastation.

And none of that mentions the, uh, other mess live animals tend to make.

Despite being within the city limits, they are far from tame. Any attempts to approach the birds will be met with either an angry warning wark, a display of puffed feathers, or the chocobo just straight up bolting away. This seems great, as maybe they can be corralled, but… Nope. While this works to an extent, as soon as the birds get too close to the city borders they turn tail and jump straight over the heads of the people attempting to be rid of them, running back into the city to make even more of a mess in their renewed panic. What is there to be done about them?


B. Lurking Lunchers

Should anyone be so inclined as to find out why the chocobos feathers are so ruffled, they need only walk to the edge of the city. Stalking around just beyond civilization are fearsome beasts known only as chocobo eaters. Based on the feathers stuck between their huge teeth this is probably an apt name. The monsters have little interest in humans, but become very interested when a chocobo wanders too close to the outskirts of town. The chocobo eaters are quite aggressive and will gladly take on anyone bold enough to make a challenge. Adventurers may attempt to fight them, but it seems like just when you send one packing, another bigger monster shows up. Was that a baby chocobo eater you were just fighting? You could have sworn it was an adult, with how big it is!


C. Fight or Flight

At last the time has come. A gold chocobo trotted in from off the horizon and rounded up what she believes to be able fighters, herded them into groups, and partnered them with a chocobo that will fight by their side. Ironically it seems to be the feathered member of the party that actually knows what to do, and the teams are led by their respective birds out into the battlefield to take on one of the ferocious beasts waiting out there for lunch. Fight as hard as you can and don’t let the birds down. Defeat might not mean death for you, but it certainly would for the chocobos!


Once the battles are won and the flocks free to return to their natural habitat, some of the brave battlers will find themselves with new feathered friends. Others will not, but everyone will have a handful of greens. Well that didn't work, Shiro accesses the present situation and uses Cover on Camilla as he readies to Shock Break at where the arm joins the body, next turn. "Strike at the joints! Slow it down!"

He keeps track of their chocobo friend and the rest of his small team in case he needs to cover someone else in the near future.

CHUG CHUG CHUG CHUG

The attack collides into Camilla and she slams into the ground. Grunting, she nods to Shiro in thanks for the help and advice and jumps back up and prepping her lance to aim for the inside of the Eater's right elbow. Going for the attack, she casts Lancet, hoping it would sap a bit of the monster's life force.

Their attacks were hitting and hitting hard, Shiro achieving a critical hit with his combo, and this infuriated the chocobo eater. It clenched its fists hard in front of it before spreading its arms and lowering its head and running in to Push Back the party.

The chocobo warked in alarm and retreated back several meters. Once she regained her composure she let out a soft kweh and flapped her wings, casting a low level choco-cure on the entire party.

"Gah!"

Castor catches herself, skidding to a stop a few feet behind Shiro and the Chocobo alike. She yells her thanks at the brave bird before sliding into position and Tackles back into place at the Chocobo Eater's left flank, ready to strike again when she's able.

He takes the attack and braces himself, breathing in deep. This is a lot like being in the arena. But it's colder, quieter. No roaring crowd. His eyes narrow.

He uses Rampart and adds his thanks for the brave bird's assistance just as Castor tackles back in. A plan forms in his mind and he charges back in himself, going straight at the beast with another Shock Break.

"Okay, good job! We've done some damage. Keep it up!"

Camilla nods and waves to the chocobo giving them some heals. "Thank you, darling!" She calls out just as she preps again with Spirit Surge just as the others went in with their attacks. Following suit, she comes in with another Jump attack to the same spot where she hit the Eater before.

Their chocobo companion seemed quite pleased with the praise and trilled in return, fluffing her feathers.

The Chocobo Eater was taking a good beating, but was so far from down. It lunged forward to his Castor with a physical attack. You tackle it, it tackles you.

Feeling confident and boosted by her teammates, the chocobo rushed in for another flying kick to the monster's face.

Castor swears as the Chocobo eater plows into her, and it takes a moment before she can right herself again, immediately retaliating with another Dragon Kick right in it's ugly face. If it's not gonna pay attention to the Paladin, then it may as well pay attention to her.

"C'mon, ye great lout. That hardly tickled!"

He can't use any more defense boosts yet. Shiro shifts his grip on his sword and puts his body into his Shock break aiming for the elbow of the arm on his side. But he keeps an eye on Castor's situation.

Camilla unfortunately has nothing to help the others but she can at least relieve the chocobo of healing her for a moment. She decides to use a Lancet spell again just in case the monster has other plans.Better to be safe than sorry.

Castor takes a moment to dive away from the Chocobo Eater's effective range and uses Whirlwind, readying herself for her next available opening.

The Chocobo Eater manages to dodge that as it goes after Castor but it's the Shock Break that gets it, a pained roar coming from the creature as it takes heavy damage from the hit it wasn't prepared for. The beast stumbles and tries to regain it's bearings though that Whirlwind does nothing to help it, sending it stumbling another few steps backwards and struggling to keep it's balance.

Trilling in thanks, their chocobo companion manages to get itself back into the fray, lunging forward to attack at the weakened monster with Peck.

The creature is off balance. He casts Cover on Castor and sends out another Rampart then he commits to the fight again.

Shiro whirls, putting the momentum of his spin into a Shock Break at the back of the Chocobo Eater's knee. The beast is weak and off balance. Time to help that.

Oh good, the dumb brute is weakening. Camilla grins madly as she activates another Spirit Surge and lunges in for another

Her comrades may hear her say something along the lines of 'You've been naughty' but it was rather quick after all. Is she having fun? <em>You bet.</em>

Castor shouts a thanks to Shiro and Tackles into the Chcocobo eater again, aiming for the same place as her companions. Thanks to the whirlwind earlier, she's moving fast enough to immediately follow up with another Dragon Kick to the same place.
