Plot || The Star Wars Vaikuntha Special

What: The race for the crystals is on!!

Crystals have fallen out of the Dream Width in a beautiful meteor shower and scattered all over the world! Due to their origins and mysterious properties, the Curti Center is interested in gathering as many as they can for researching purposes. To incentivize the public in helping out, O'aka has donated a few silver coupons to those top few who collect the most crystals. There's also a rumor that the one person (or more if there's a tie) who collects the most, wins something marvelous and mysterious~

The hunt for these crystals have taken storm across Vaikuntha and they're suddenly worth a lot. It's all anyone talks about anymore! The locals have gone crazy with it! If you weren't interested to begin with, surely the madness that is this new fad has sunk its teeth in. Besides, who knows what the crystals can actually do? Are they gifts? Curses? Dust collectors? Only one way to find out.

Jeff shrugs and says, "I don't know. The Eidolons are kinda cool." Then he goes back to work or whatever he's doing on his iMog... Definitely work.

Congrats, you’re in the museum proper now! What should we look at first, Hero?

Corrin nods. Eidolons it is!

So that's where she goes.

You make your way to a seemingly new exhibit. So new, in fact, a rather large part of the open area is curtained off. A sign in front of the curtain says, “MAINTENANCE | No Entry.”

That’s fine, though, as there’s more to see. The hall is lined with artwork of all the Eidolon’s that the Heroes have discovered thus far except Odin and the Legendaries. The portrait of Leviathan is massive, easily triple the size of the others, so there must be some pride for the home team around here.

There’s another section dedicated to any Eidolons that haven’t been found yet but are rumored to exist. It’s simply an interactive map of Vaikuntha with lights blinking on various continents. There’s a big red button beneath the map that says “PRESS ME.”

The paintings of the Eidolons are impressive, Corrin has to admit; especially the one of Leviathan. She keeps an eye out for any sign of any crystals that might have found their way into the exhibit, but she stoips in front of the map and stares at it for a moment. Ah, what the heck.

She decides to take a moment and see what the interactive map offers; she'll resume her search once it's done.

You press the button and a wave of sound hits you from all sides. It’s far too loud, but you realize it’s an orchestra of string instruments coming from speakers embedded in the ceiling. A jovial, male voice begins to speak:

“The Eidolon’s of Vaikuntha! Marvelous beings and so very much to learn! Scattered all over the world! Separated and together and separate! Each inhabiting a new cascade of abilities!”

The voice continues and you give him at least a second to get to the point, but he just keeps going on and on with these hook lines that give no relevant information. He’s not shutting up.

Okay, well as entertaining and as educational as this is, it's not helpful to her. Glancing around surreptitiously to make sure nobody's looking, since she's not sure she's technically allowed to do this, Corrin decides to sneak a quick peek behind the curtain, just to make sure there aren't any crystals hiding back there.

Rebellious and daring to explore, you part the curtain like a pro and poke your head through. Your nose stops about half an inch away from- from scales. Scales on a… very large… snout...

HOLY GUACAMOLE, IT’S BAHAMUT COME AGAIN!!!

Corrin was not expecting to come to face to face with Bahamut again. The colour drains out of her face and she's paralyzed with fear. "I...aaaah...aaaaaaaaaugh...guh."

Actually, after taking a second to blink and stare, you realize that it’s not really Bahamut. It’s a replica, supposedly being created for the exhibit. And very well done, you might add. Looks just like him! Though, at least small enough to fit inside the building.

You turn your head to spy a lalafell crouched down near Bahamut’s claws. The two of you make eye contact, then she suddenly looks angry. “You’re not supposed to be back here! The exhibit isn’t ready yet!”

Corrin starts in surprise when the lalafell starts yelling. Of course, she's not wrong, but still, this is an opportunity. "O-oh! Sorry, I couldn't resist a little peek." She explains hurriedly, before motioning to the enormous Bahamut model. "This is incredible work." She carries on. "I got a pretty close-up look at the real Bahamut during the fight with Ramaa and you've captured the likeness really well. This is going to be part of the Eidolon exhibit?"

“Yeah... It’s- It’s just the dragon!” she says, waving at the replica with a furious blush all over her face.

“Listen, don’t worry about it. You really shouldn't be back here, though. I’m just an artist from Lavode, so I don’t know much about the museum. If you need help, talk to Jeff. He’s sweet when he’s not dealing with relationship drama. Now, shoo!”

She gently shoves you out of the curtained area. Probably best to leave her alone.

Shooed away, but finding that information about Jeff potentially useful and filing it away for possible later use, Corrin decides the Eidolon exhibit is probably a bust, but she'll still take her time to enjoy the exhibit. She did come all this way and she has the entire rest of the day still, and she's in no particular rush. She decides to examine the portraits of the Eidolons before she leaves to check out another part of the museum.

The portraits are very nicely done, watercolor on canvas if that means anything to you. If you’ve ever seen the Eidolons, Hero, you can attest to just how accurate these are. Each painting’s frame has a tiny plaque with their names.

In the center is the wyrm dragon, Leviathan, the largest portrait. Right to Leviathan is a beautiful woman (Shiva), a flaming beast (Ifrit), a giant made of stone (Titan), and an old man with a wispy beard (Ramuh). On the left of Leviathan is a Chocobo and Moogle (Choco/Mog), a purple figure with a large mouth (Typhon), a faerie enclosed by beautiful wings (Titania), and a suspiciously blank space with a plaque that reads ‘ODIN.’ His painting must still be getting worked on.

The paintings are nice and everything, but there doesn’t seem to be much else here.

These are some amazing portrait. Leviathan, Ifrit, and Titan are all majestic, Shiva and Titania are both beautiful, Ramuh looks dignified, Choco/Mog is/are cute as a button...and Typhon is just bewildering. Corrin's never seen Odin before though and the empty painting just makes enhances his aura of mystery.

...But this doesn't exactly help with finding the crystals. Corrin should move on-

-buuuuuuuuuuuuuut what's on the map. Museums are so much fun! Crystals or not, this alone makes the day totally worth it.

There are lights shining bright in several places with known temple, like Cloud City, Cactuar Island, and others. There are several lights blinking, though. Perhaps rumored locations? Lights revolve around the Northern Expanse and many flash all over the oceans.

There isn’t much information, though. Seems like the Museum knows as much about these Eidolons’ locations as the Heroes do.

Okay, well, for the time being there's nothing else Corrin can do here. She decides to leave the exhibit.

Well, there might not have been any Crystals there, but it was still a fun exhibit. Corrin decides to head back to Jeff and let him know how much she enjoyed his recommendation. He seems like the kind of guy who doesn't get enough compliments from the guests. Maybe some from Corrin might cheer him up a little.

Plus if he's having relationship issues, maybe Corrin can help him with that. She does like helping people and has been pretty successful in the relationship department herself, after all.

Jeff looks at you and raises an eyebrow.

She waves as she approaches. "Hey, the Eidolon exhibit was really interesting." She says. "I just wanted to thank you for the recommendation. It was a lot of fun. That Bahamut sculpture they're putting up is really cool! It was almost like I was back there fighting him again with the other Heroes of Light. I chatted a bit with the sculptor, too, and she actually mentioned you..." She cocks her head at Jeff. "It sounded like you were having some kind of relationship trouble."

Is that ridiculously forward and inappropriate? Sure. But Corrin is a Hero of Light, and helping people is what she does. And she grew up in a tower and sometimes still struggles with certain social niceties.

He gives you a startled eye but quickly deflates, giving up. “It doesn’t matter. You’re right. He and Joan are out there right now looking for those dumb crystals. Can you believe it? Who even cares, right? Just to get some airship tickets or whatever?

“And I’m stuck here.”

> “Yep, you’re stuck here.” Leave Jeff to his whining.
> “There’s no one else here. Maybe your boss can let you go early?”
> “I wonder if I could take over for you?”

Corrin frowns, but then puts a reassuring hand on his shoulder. "Well, we can't have that, can we? Listen...why don't you head out?" She suggests, motioning to the otherwise empty lobby. "I'll handle things for you while you're gone." After all, with what's going on out there, it's likely not to be too busy in here. Corrin's seen no one else in the museum aside from Jeff and that sculptor. It sounds like he likes this girl, and if she might return those feelings, well...she feels compelled to help him try.

"I know I'm not a regular employee, but it'll be fine. My name is Corrin of Nohr, I'm a Hero of Light, and helping people is what I do. Let me help you, Jeff."

“Wha-” He looks at you with wide eyes. “What, really? Seriously? Are you serious!?”

Is he angry? Is he about to cry? Oh, he just threw his nametag at you, okay. “All you have to do is take the people’s money,” he says quickly, scrambling out of his uniform shirt. “I owe you, bud. Oh my gosh, I- Wait, hold on, here, I have like five of them-”

Jeff digs in his pocket before pressing a Rain Crystal into your hand!!! Followed quickly by his shirt. “Thank you so much! I’m coming, Domon!” And Jeff’s gone…

Congratulations, Hero!

Once Jeff's shift ends, you're free to continue adventuring if you want more crystals.

Corrin is happy to receive the crystal, but before she can thank Jeff properly, he tosses his discarded shirt at her. "Whoa, now-" But then he's gone. Ah well. Such is the course of true love. Good luck, tiger.

Corrin finishes out the rest of Jeff's shift; it's not hard and she did her fair share of guard duty during the war, and this isn't far removed from it. When she's done, though, there's still plenty of day left...and plenty of museum she still hasn't seen. Having acquired one of the Rain Crystals, that's enough for her.

Time for some educational fun!
