Crystals have fallen out of the Dream Width in a beautiful meteor shower and scattered all over the world! Due to their origins and mysterious properties, the Curti Center is interested in gathering as many as they can for researching purposes. To incentivize the public in helping out, O'aka has donated a few silver coupons to those top few who collect the most crystals. There's also a rumor that the one person (or more if there's a tie) who collects the most, wins something marvelous and mysterious~

The hunt for these crystals have taken storm across Vaikuntha and they're suddenly worth a lot. It's all anyone talks about anymore! The locals have gone crazy with it! If you weren't interested to begin with, surely the madness that is this new fad has sunk its teeth in. Besides, who knows what the crystals can actually do? Are they gifts? Curses? Dust collectors? Only one way to find out.

There was a sudden flash of rememberance, of a bit of luggage that he'd seen about the city... Time to try diplomacy. "Alright. I know you're there, and I can tell you that if you want to try an' stop me, it'll go very hard for you."

The chest... opens one eye to look at Vimes. There's a pause where it seems like the Mimic might heed his warning but no.

It lunges forward in an attempt to chomp!

Vimes, in the spirit of being a right bastard, dives in to tackle the Mimic to the ground. Whether he gets chomped or not is irrelevant, in his mind. Some people would say that trying to [Arrest] a damned Mimic is a bad idea, but then most people aren't Sam Vimes.

The arrest was... successful? ... Yay!

The Mimic flops to the ground, dazed and blinking. During the tackle, Vimes probably heard something clanking inside the chest.

Regardless, the path is now free to take.

Growling, Vimes attempts to leverage the chest open to search it. "Alright. Now I'm going to see what you've got, and you're gonna show me, and them I'm gonna go away and leave you alone, my chum. Understand me?"

Shouldn't he have a warrant for this!??! The Mimic flails about as Vimes finds a Chocobo Feather inside.

No. Vimes here had what could be called 'probable cause'. Especially since 'Assaulting an officer' is very definitely a crime. Even for monsters.

Vimes took the feather, nodded, and released the Mimic, before moving on. He did use the feather, however. That was the sort of thing that could be useful.

Anyway! Vimes walks into a wide, cleared area where a gigantic chest sits in the middle.

The chest... yawns... Uh-oh! Its eyes are open and suddenly sees that there's a visitor! It seems stunned that someone managed to find it in here and freezes on the spot.

Vimes frowned, glaring at the chest. It took a bit of working to swap to Berserker, but he managed it. "You going to have a go at me, as well?"

Oh... It's not every day that someone doesn't just attack this Mimic on sight. That's new.

It blinks at Vimes and opens its mouth, showing a Shadow Crystal inside. Almost like it wants him to take it and leave him in peace... or it's a trap to bite his hand off?

Or maybe it just heard about what happened to the other guy.

Vimes narrowed his eyes... but approached with caution, and reached out to take the crystal.
