Crystals have fallen out of the Dream Width in a beautiful meteor shower and scattered all over the world! Due to their origins and mysterious properties, the Curti Center is interested in gathering as many as they can for researching purposes. To incentivize the public in helping out, O'aka has donated a few silver coupons to those top few who collect the most crystals. There's also a rumor that the one person (or more if there's a tie) who collects the most, wins something marvelous and mysterious~

The hunt for these crystals have taken storm across Vaikuntha and they're suddenly worth a lot. It's all anyone talks about anymore! The locals have gone crazy with it! If you weren't interested to begin with, surely the madness that is this new fad has sunk its teeth in. Besides, who knows what the crystals can actually do? Are they gifts? Curses? Dust collectors? Only one way to find out.

The scholarly hamster blinks up at Okuyasu and laughs in a little, squeaky, cute chuckle. And he keeps laughing. And the other hamster joins in. And now they're both laughing. They're still laughing.

Aaaand the scholarly hamster sighs. In a deathly serious voice, he answers, "No."

[righthandstand]

Okuyasu raises a thin eyebrow at the nerdy hamster. "...That was hella creepy." But whatever. If he dies, someone can save him. "So what's the deal? You don't wanna kill us so long as we stay away from the crystals?"

[hatejakku]

"Oh, I think there's been a misunderstanding," he says. "You see, I have no desire to kill anyone. Merely, we have found these crystals on our island, have no use for them, and thought we would mingle with the population beyond our borders. That's all.

"Though, I do not speak for all of my kind. There may very well be some that do want to kill you." Then, more serious, "You. In particular."

And right back to jovial! "But I do not wish to see blood spilled today. We are here to have fun, after all. Aren't we?"

[righthandstand]

That was a threat. He is being threatened by a cute animal. Okuyasu wishes he brought Stray Cat to intimidate the hamster right back.

He is not having fun at all.

"Y-Yeah..." He swallows. His throat is dry. "So. Can I have a crystal and leave?"

[hatejakku]

"Oh, goodness me, no. You have to answer my three questions correctly first. Then you may leave.

"Though, if you get one wrong, you will also be leaving, sans crystal. We'll have to see how you fair."

[righthandstand]

"Shit."

One word encapsulates his thoughts. "I always sucked at quizzes..."

If only he was better at school. If only Koichi was here. If only he had researched hamsters in-depth.

"What...kind of questions?"

[hatejakku]

"Trivia," he answers excitedly. "Questions about Vaikuntha, mostly. The history, experiences, asterisks, events, people, velocity around the nearest star in meters per second, music- Simple things like that."

[righthandstand]

Okuyasu swears internally. He doesn't know shit about numbers. Asterisks, maybe, but not complicated science. But now isn't the time to be a coward.

He stiffens and puffs out his chest. "Come at me."

[hatejakku]

The hamster chuckles. "Very well. First question.

"Where is the Astrologian Guild?"

[righthandstand]

"In the sky." Wait. More specific. The city with the observatory. "Cloud City."

[hatejakku]

"Correct," the hamster answers, seemingly proud. "Two more. Here's your next question.

"What happens to a hamster upon death?"

[righthandstand]

"It dies, doesn't it?" That was obvious. Too obvious. Was this hamster going easy on him because he's an idiot? But that can't be it. Everyone dies when they are killed.

"Unless, like, they turn into a zombie or somethin'. That'd be pretty damn scary." And now he's going to never step foot on this island again.

[hatejakku]

The hamster's ear twitches and he's quiet for a moment. But then- "That's correct. We do become zombies or the undead, whatever you would like to call it. Now then-" I guess we're just glossing over that. "-Last question.

"What is your name?"

[righthandstand]

Oh shit. These guys are unbeatable. He could die if he doesn't answer the question right--

"Huh?" Now this had to be a joke. "Okuyasu Nijimura, duh. You got somethin' to say about it?" Next, the hamster was going to declare that he was going to die.

[hatejakku]

Hmm. The hamster stares up at Okuyasu for a long moment before-

"I concede. Congratulations, you have earned yourself a Plasma Crystal."

Flash rolls away and returns hardly a second later, shoving a Crystal to Okuyasu's feet.

"Thank you for your time," the scholarly hamster says. "You have one minute and thirty seconds to leave the island."

Wait, what-

[righthandstand]

He squats to pick up the crystal, never taking his eyes off the hamster. It looks real. The hamster is still standing there. These guys are jokes.

Unless that threat to kill him is real.

"The hell are you talking about?" Nevermind that whoever is on the boat is yelling at him to come back ASAP.

[hatejakku]

"One minute," the hamster responds. Flash is jumping up and down in his little hamster ball.

[righthandstand]

Was that hamster locked up for rodent crimes? Was he the one murderer that ruined the hamsters' reputation? No, wait, they were pretty okay with siccing a death biter on some dude.

"...See ya!" He disappeared, then reappeared twenty feet away before bolting for the ship.
