Crystals have fallen out of the Dream Width in a beautiful meteor shower and scattered all over the world! Due to their origins and mysterious properties, the Curti Center is interested in gathering as many as they can for researching purposes. To incentivize the public in helping out, O'aka has donated a few silver coupons to those top few who collect the most crystals. There's also a rumor that the one person (or more if there's a tie) who collects the most, wins something marvelous and mysterious~

The hunt for these crystals have taken storm across Vaikuntha and they're suddenly worth a lot. It's all anyone talks about anymore! The locals have gone crazy with it! If you weren't interested to begin with, surely the madness that is this new fad has sunk its teeth in. Besides, who knows what the crystals can actually do? Are they gifts? Curses? Dust collectors? Only one way to find out.

Soft Prescience is a really interesting ability. In most cases, it's near useless unless you're one of the fastest beings on Vaikuntha. Half a second isn't a lot of reaction time. But thankfully, Frisk is one of the fastest beings on Vaikuntha, so they're able to take full advantage of it. Most of the time.

But when you're reaching for the next handhold in a very precarious climb, you don't have much room to maneuver. So when Frisk sees the mimic come to life and bite them half a second before it happens, all they can do is give a resigned sigh and brace themself.

Suffice to say, they eat shit.

Frisk does a fairly impressive backflip from their lying position. Once on their feet, they roll away from the mimic, brace their arm, and summon a whirlwind that tosses eight extra-large, razor-sharp, glowing-green leaves towards the mimic in a [Leaf Blower]. It has eight random enemy targets, but... considering that there's just one target, it's going to hit the mimic eight times!

But hark! What's this? It would seem a certain skeletal nerd has also stumbled upon the maze. Currently using his Cool Scientist asterisk, he dashes toward Frisk and the Mimic and unleashes his Bone Mastery to land a surprise blow on the pesky chest wannabe.

Hopefully surprise. Giant bones aren't exactly subtle.

"NYEH HEH HEH!!!! TAKE THAT, MIMIC! I, THE GREAT PAPYRUS, MAY NOT BE A NINJA, BUT I AM STILL A MASTER OF STEALTH!"

Though maybe he shouldn't have shouted.

The poor Mimic takes a beating! Once on the ground, it wobbles around a bit, dazed by the surprise attack from Papyrus. As it stumbles, you can hear something clunking around inside the chest.

"Yo, Paps!" Frisk ducks beneath the volley of bones, their instincts from the Underground intact. Still got it. "Been awhile since we've done something like this together, huh?" Which is, frankly, a) something they regret and b) entirely their fault. But hey, at least they've made up with the other Frisk, so hopefully more adventures would be forthcoming.

"Do me a favor and hotswap to Chemist, would you? I have a plan." Using Papyrus's [Job Lore] if he complies, Frisk switches to [Ninja] and attempts to [Steal] something from the Mimic.

[einspine]

"HMM... WELL, ALL RIGHT! I, THE GREAT PAPYRUS, WILL GLADLY COMMENCE WITH THE SWAPPING!" He'll go ahead and use his modifier skill to swap back to Chemist so that Frisk can do their whole stealing thing.

He's got his eyes on the Mimic, though. That clunking is a bit unsettling.

"COME TO THINK OF IT, PERHAPS TREASURE HUNTING WOULD BE USEFUL IN THIS MAZE, ANYWAY! GOOD THINKING, FRISK!"

But hmmm... what to do. Papyrus will go ahead and conjure up an Unstable Reaction for a bit of extra damage.

The explosion gets the job done and blows the Mimic to smithereens! In the carnage, they'll find a leather sack of 10,000 gil and a pair of Dragoon Boots!

Frisk stares at the rock for a solid half-minute, scowling. It feels like the universe is mocking them. "Do I look like a Freelancer?" they grumble before pocketing the rock. Who knows, it could be useful at some point. Maybe. Probably not, but they'll find a way to use it to spite RNG anyways.

Taking the Dragoon Boots, Frisk jumps high up into the air, seeing how far away the Shadow Crystal is.

Hopefully, Frisk's ready for this. As soon as they get the boots on, they jump high into the sky! Better land on your feet, buddy!

Up in the air, it's easy to see the immediate areas. Off to the left, a single turn away, is a wide open area with a giant chest sitting in the middle. That looks like a jackpot!

Good luck with that landing because it's happening now.

Papyrus' eye sockets go wide as Frisk descends. He darts around down below before trying to leap up and catch them. Is this silly? Most likely.

But, hey! He has to be a good, responsible skeledork! Frisk's safety is always a priority.

"WELL? WHAT DID YOU SEE, FRISK?"

Frisk flips several times midair, then do a dramatic swoon into Papyrus's arms, winking at him. Jumping out of his embrace, they dust themself off. "Looks like the crystal's just a bit to the left—or something valuable, at any rate. Who knows, it might just be a bigger mimic." Man, it feels good to be adventuring with their best bud again.

"C'mon, lessgo!" Whooping, they head to the left.

They walk into a wide, cleared area where a gigantic chest sits in the middle.

The chest... yawns... Uh-oh! Its eyes are open and suddenly sees that there are visitors! It seems stunned that someone managed to find it in here and freezes on the spot.

Frisk immediately settles into a battle stance, raising a [Charge Shield]. "Should've known to check for traps," they joke, winking at Papyrus. They weren't surprised that the maze wouldn't give them the crystal without at least one more challenge. That's just how things be on this JRPG pastiche of a Vaikuntha.

Papyrus really wishes he had switched back to Cool Scientist now, but for the time being he'll whip up another Unstable Reaction. Hopefully that'll at least throw the pesky mimic off guard for a little bit.

"WELL, AT LEAST IT'S JUST ANOTHER MIMIC! ALL THINGS CONSIDERED, IT COULD BE SO MUCH WORSE!"

Mimic's Heath Remaining: 74.4%

The Mimic jumps with the explosion, falling back to the ground a bit dazed. It tries to shake off the attack and lunge for Frisk to take a Chomp out of their arm!

Or their shield, really.

Frisk smirks as the Mimic gets close enough to chomp at them, only half the kinetic force getting through the shield. Checkmate. If they were pretentious enough to think that sort of thing when they've won a confrontation, which they definitely aren't.

"Bang," they say, making a fingergun, then a massive beam of white light interspersed with ribbons of rainbow energy erupts from the tip of their index finger. Point blank into the mimic.

Mimic's Health Remaining: 0% OVERKILL

No matter what else goes on, the Mimic is instantly vaporized by the Buster Beam. All it leaves behind are two Shadow Crystals and a final passage that looks like it leads out of the maze.
