Event || Mysterious Fathoms Below

Who: All characters who signed up
When: June 23rd-25th
Where: Ka'Pandol, the underwater city
What: While the outworlders and their guides are touring the new arena at Ka'Pandol, the city begins to flood. It is up to them to activate the ancient drainage system beneath the city before the Blitzball Association is forced to cancel the upcoming tournament.

The Zora guide, Pharce, is leading the group from the Curti Center through the center of town, waxing poetical about the legend of the First Zora, when the sirens begin to wail. At first, the residents of Ka'Pandol wave it off as a drill, but the sirens do not stop, and as they walk, the visitor shoes are beginning to get soaked through with sea water that is slowly rising.

"Come along, quickly, all of you!" the guide calls, leading the group to the Bureau of Tourism near the city center. As they walk, the group will see the aquatic residents quickly deploying bubble helmets around their 'exotic' pets -dogs, cats, parrots, squirrels- heads, just in case City Management takes their time righting whatever issue the dome is having.

"Inside, please. Safety first is our motto, so let's get you outfitted," Pharce says, waiving them inside. Each person is given one of the patented Ka'Pandol Bubble Helm, which will allow them to breath comfortably for several hours. Those that cannot swim are issued an emergency life vest as well.

The water had reached knee-level now. An emergency evacuation message broadcasts from loudspeakers.

"Well, yes, you could...but where's the fun in that?"

Pharce waves at the Hypello gift shop owner, and the two bow their heads in discussion for a moment. When they part, Pharce pats the Hypello (whose nametag declares him 'Shtan') on the back.

"My good friend will lend us some of his wares, if you will join me in saving the city. We wouldn't want this little mishap to delay the big game, after all."

Those that agree to hold off on fleeing the city will be split into groups and given instructions on where to go in order to help the sinking city of Ka'Pandol.

[With her flippers on, the moogle is actually quite swift and any fear of the current sweeping her away is quickly set aside. However her relief doesn't last long as the plantoid enters the chamber with them! Her instinctive flailing sends her well out of the thing's grasp but when she sees it go for her friend she furrows her brow in focus.]

Kupooooo~ Keep your filthy tentacles off her!

[She doesn't mean to ignore Cor's call per se, but keeping her distance isn't really an option with her Jobs. Coming about she channels her dragoon training into some fierce kicks, propelling herself at the monster with her spear held out! This may not be a proper Jump but she's putting as much effort into it as she charges forward!]

"Oh no. No no no no no! NO!" Reno swam backwards as fast as he could, away from the monster while keeping an eye on it. Tentacles. Why did it have to be tentacles?

"Fuck, no! Not a-fucking-gain, fuck!"

[Johnny uses this turn to call out his underwater mount. It's taking some getting used to, considering it's not much like a chocobo. He drops into Pestilence Stance for this fight.

Reno sure does distract him, though. He's not the kind of person to back off from a fight, especially in such a panicky way. Johnny decides to get in front of Reno in case the monster decided to come after him.]

Whoa, whoa. Don't sweat it, okay? We're not gonna let this thing hurt anybody.

[The spinning strike hits several lashing tendrils of plant, while the ~~world's tiniest and most adorable~~ jump hits the main body of the Prison Cage.

The monster shoots several vines out at Cor in a physical strike, though his readied katana allows him to slice his way out before they can wrap around him and drag him back into the cage.

The Prison Cage stomps its trunk-like feet and flails its vine arms tauntingly.]

Thanks Bonnie!

[Selphie nods in thanks to Cor springing ahead to pass her weapon back to her and reminds herself to not be so careless in the future. She frowns as Reno backs off and the others leap into action. She eyes the tentacles as they lash out at the others and then sees the cage on top of its body.

Looks like its time to put some space between them and the monster. Without any words, the perky brunette moves forward with the aid of the air tank on her back and readies a decisive Thrust attack at the beast before attempting to get out of its way.]

[Cor nods in response to Selphie, but quickly focused on fending off the vines that reached out to grab him. Reno's panicked remarks, however, makes him look back just for a moment. Seeing Johnny trying to calm him down doens't lesson his worry. Instead, he turned to the gunslinger of the group and gestured to the redhead and the cavalier.]

Prompto - help cover their flanks in-between laying down some cover fire.

[There's too many vines for his comfort, hence why his next remark is short and towards Bonnie.]

Aim for the base of its vines. Let's trim off as many as possible.

[Cor himself kick-swims towards the plant monster himself, his flippers helping him move quickly as he slashes at one of those vines' base himself before swimming back. If he has to, he will Parkour along the larger vines in order to do so.]

[Bonnie keeps on the move, swimming away from the plant as her strike lands, trying not to linger too close to it. The flippers are helping where she might normally have to trust in her wings. Something to think about for the future, maybe.

But right now she swims with Selphie to make sure she gets back to the line safely. The moogle is worried about Reno but she's glad that Cor is too and is taking command of the situation. She nods to him and swims back out with him, stabbing at the vines while also attempting to gather strength for a Spirit Surge if she's given the chance.]

[Reno clutched at his chest, trying to catch his breath as he was gripped by the memories of his first death. Even if this creature was different, even if this place was different, the sights and sounds and sensations brought it all back.]

[He thought he was over this. He was wrong.]

I'm sorry... I'm sorry...

[He felt like shit. He felt weak. And now Prompto had to cover his ass. What kind of a leader was he?]

Fuck...!

[He grit his teeth and tried to steel himself, hurling an ice spell the Prison Cage's way with Ninjutsu. He couldn't let himself be useless.]

It's okay. We got this thing.

[Johnny considers for a moment using Famine Stance and staying in front of Reno as a shield, but then there would be one less person attacking the monster. The call for Prompto to help cover him makes him feel like he's okay to jump forward and attack. So instead he opts for Pestilence Stance, and dashes towards the enemy on his aquatic steed with Last Charge.]

[The combined push from Johnny's charge, Selphie's thrust, and Reno's ninjutsu forces the plant monster back a little. Cor's katana flashes as he weaves through the thrashing tendrils, severing one of the thick vines that form the creatures's 'arms'.

The Prison Cage makes another grab for Selphie, this time managing to get a hold on her. Selphie will be placed into the cage for the next round. She can still attack while within the cage, but will experience a Drain effect. She will be able to escape the cage on the Prison Cage's next turn.]

[Selphie gives a very startled shout before the monster successfully pulls her into its cage. She scans her surroundings quickly before she winces slightly.

She knows the feeling of her strength slipping away and knows that she has to act quickly. Part of her wants to shout to Reno to fry the monster and her along with it but the other part of her knows that would be a recipe for disaster. She takes another approach instead.

She quickly brings her hands to the bottom of the staff and holds it like she was holding the hilt of a sword. She spins the other end of the staff and uses another Thrust attack to drive the weapon into the bottom of the cage while shouting at the beast:]

Let. Me. OUTTA HERE!

Selphie~ Kupo!

[Bonnie reaches out, trying to pull her friend away from the plant creature's grasp but her arms are just too ~~very~~ short to reach her. The moogle feels the fear and panic welling up in her as the ex Hero is pulled away and all she can imagine is this thing is going to try to eat her!

But she feels the height of her Surging Spirit and puts her worry for her friend at the tip of her spear as she does another aquatic Jump at the side of the creature!]

Kupo! Leave us ALONE~

[Cor's face hardens as he sees the monster swiftly grabbing Selphie and pulling her into the cage portion of its body. He swims back a bit as he readies himself to charge right back in for a fast strike.]

Everyone, aim for the base this time. Let's break her out!

[He is going to wait until Prompto and Reno fire off any ranged/spell attacks before he swims close enough for a slashing strike.]

Not good.

[He reacted with a bit of a squeak as Selphie was pulled into the creature's stomach, or cage, whatever it really was.

Cor's voice was to him, as always, no nonsense and there was no other way to react.]

Yes, Marshal!

[Prompto took aim at the base and fired off his clip, keeping his hand steady.]

Damnit--

[Instead of attacking again, Johnny drops a Virtuous Shield shield on Selphie, hoping to keep her safe until they can get her out of there.]

[With the attacks focused on the base so that no friendly fire hits Selphie, the party inflicts enough damage to create an opening for Selphie to escape the cage. Before she can wiggle free, though, the Prison Cage's drain goes into effect, siphoning life (though reduced, thanks to Johnny's shield) from Selphie to restore itself.

Even with the slight healing, it looks worse for wear, though. Several tendrils have been severed and loose foliage now swirls in the water around the party.

The Prison Cage now lashes out its vines at Prompto, but fails to capture him and put him in its cage.]

[Prompto tries to dodge.]

Ew, ew, ew!

[What else would one say if vines were trying to capture him? One makes it around his wrist in his free hand but he fires his gun and pulls to make sure he gets free and doesn't get dragged into the cage.

That was close, and he looks a little pale at the thought of being captured and trapped somewhere, even if it's just a monster's cage.]

[Selphie put her air tank on full blast the moment she saw the cage loosen and gave it a hearty Thrust to loosen the cage the rest of the way. That was when she truly felt the power of the draining effect as she grabbed Prompto's hand and pulled him back with her. She winced before cutting the tank and looking a bit paler than before.]

Don't let it catch you!

[She looked at the rest of the group one by one as she settled a glare at the beast.]

It's using something similar to a Drain spell.

--Prompto!

[Cor rushes towards the blonde, but it seems that Selphie got to him first. Still, he takes a defensive stance in front of those two, placing himself between them and the monster.

He signals to Reno.]

See if you can freeze its remaining limbs in place. And you two--

[A gesture to Bonnie and Johnny.]

We make a unified charging attack as soon as he casts that spell. Ready?

[Because if/when that does happen, he's going to be swiftly swimming up close to the monster to slash at its body.]

Prompto!

[The attack against his new Assassin woke Reno up and the scream was hoarse. No -- thank gods, it missed him. Reno wouldn't let it get a second chance.]

Ya, boss!

[Cor didn't have to ask him twice. Reno roared with anger, more focused on his target now, as he cast another ice Ninjutsu at those hateful tendrils.]

[With Selphie gaining her freedom, Bonnie swims back around to keep guard of her friend. She sympathizes with Prompto's own near snaring, she doesn't want it grabbing her either, but at least he got away from it. Regardless she's protecting him too even if Selphie is first on her mind.

She wishes she could use her Dragoon fire breath to burn this plant up, but with all the water in here it's just going to be doused immediately. She's glad when Cor calls out an alternate plan. She nods and swims up alongside him, letting her Spirit Surge in anticipation of the next move.]

[Johnny gives Cor a nod.]

Let's do it.

[Johnny gets ready to do a combined attack with a Last Charge, hoping the monster will get poisoned in the process to chancel out that Drain spell it's using.]

[Johnny's charge on the monster frozen by Reno's ice ninjutsu shatters the left trunk of the Prison Cage, hobbling its movement. Selphie's attack during her escape leaves a SeeD-sized hole in its cage, and Cor and Prompto's attacks detach another tendril arm.

In spite of the rough shape the creature is in, it still lashes out at Johnny before he can retreat. It attacks for physical damage, but fails to capture Johnny or his aquatic mount and place either in its cage. The attack inflicts Poison status on the creature, quickly undoing the healing the drain spell had done.]

[That thing going after Johnny was the last straw. Regardless of any harm to himself, Reno was solely focused on the Prison Cage now... for better or worse.]

Just fuckin' die already!

[He swam toward the monster, Throwing one of his daggers toward its unbalanced base.]

Kupooooo~

[Another plunging Jump through the water as the little moogle surges forward alongside the others at Cor's command. There's something a little different in her battlecry this time though: the joy of being part of the team, one of the Heroes~]
