When: June 23rd-25th
Where: Ka'Pandol, the underwater city
What: While the outworlders and their guides are touring the new arena at Ka'Pandol, the city begins to flood. It is up to them to activate the ancient drainage system beneath the city before the Blitzball Association is forced to cancel the upcoming tournament.



The Zora guide, Pharce, is leading the group from the Curti Center through the center of town, waxing poetical about the legend of the First Zora, when the sirens begin to wail. At first, the residents of Ka'Pandol wave it off as a drill, but the sirens do not stop, and as they walk, the visitor shoes are beginning to get soaked through with sea water that is slowly rising.

"Come along, quickly, all of you!" the guide calls, leading the group to the Bureau of Tourism near the city center. As they walk, the group will see the aquatic residents quickly deploying bubble helmets around their 'exotic' pets -dogs, cats, parrots, squirrels- heads, just in case City Management takes their time righting whatever issue the dome is having.

"Inside, please. Safety first is our motto, so let's get you outfitted," Pharce says, waiving them inside. Each person is given one of the patented Ka'Pandol Bubble Helm, which will allow them to breath comfortably for several hours. Those that cannot swim are issued an emergency life vest as well.

The water had reached knee-level now. An emergency evacuation message broadcasts from loudspeakers.

"Well, yes, you could...but where's the fun in that?"

Pharce waves at the Hypello gift shop owner, and the two bow their heads in discussion for a moment. When they part, Pharce pats the Hypello (whose nametag declares him 'Shtan') on the back.

"My good friend will lend us some of his wares, if you will join me in saving the city. We wouldn't want this little mishap to delay the big game, after all."

Those that agree to hold off on fleeing the city will be split into groups and given instructions on where to go in order to help the sinking city of Ka'Pandol.

[ Castor yells in displeasure as she's clipped by the Thundara spell, but there's not enough time to ream Noctis for his poor aim. Castor's dealt with enough flans and their equally gelatinous cousins to know that she wasn't going to be much use in combat...but if the bulk of the team was composed of magic users, there was still something she could do without adding to the squishiness.

She pulls back in close to the flan and spins her air tank, trying to blast it in the face. It probably wouldn't do any damage, but she hoped it would keep it's attention on her and off the people who could actually hurt it. ]

Countin' on you te get me through this, Nanamo!

( with a sharp intake of air, ren moved to make an attempt to avoid the crackling thundara headed towards him. there was a split-second where he cursed his decision not to take the fins instead of the tube... as the lightning dispersed around him without consequence.

had the floatie... protected him?? shaking off his surprise, he shakes his head, focusing again on the... flan, was it? ) Time for your just desserts!

( as he readies some fire ninjustu!! only... to have it fizzle out in his hands. ) Ah...? Ch-

[Zelgadis was also clipped.]

Watch the lightning!

[And of course he was stuck with a physical job; he thought the sword would do next to nothing, but he could at least step in front and do an Enhanced Counter. Might as well take some hits and hope the mages could fry the slime before they fried him.]

[The two successfully cast magical attacks are effective against the Flan, especially the Thundara (which, unfortunately, also disperses in the water, giving a lower level shock to the nearest targets). Bits of flan, still flickering with magical light, fly off of the monster, and a school of minnows dart on and off of the battlefield to nibble at the loose jelly. It's the circle of life.

The Flan, momentarily distracted by the jet of bubbles from Castor's air tank, does not attack this round. It does, however, begin to glow internally, and shifts colors to Green.]

[[ooc: For those characters that do not have magical attacks, you are welcome to get creative and try out other means of aiding your allies or harming your enemy.]]

[Nanamo grit her teeth as the lightning clipped her a little. She nodded at Castor, the apparent tank in the group as she gauged the color change.]

Wind against Fire, Ice against Wind! If we are to gauge the color, then it is Wind!

[Checking aside to the side walls to make sure nothing new was coming, she proclaimed,] Battlefield clear, lay into it!

[If he felt any further guilt about hitting the others with the Thundara spell, he doesn't show it beyond the first wince. He'd warned them in advance. They chose not to move. Yet it does not ease the burden of magic. It never did.

Noctis doesn't regard Nanamo's comments. He has no support magic, and so he focuses on the battle itself. Wind magic is new to him, though, but he remembers the graphic on the wall before.

... He feels like they were given the answer sheet to a test.]

Well, it certainly learned to chill. [Again, a warning, before he casts Blizzara. And blinks in surprise as it doesn't freeze the entire room. Huh.]

Ice?

[Not much he could do there, but Zelgadis turned his extra air tank -- for mobility he was told -- and pointed the nozzle at the flan. It wasn't magic, but was better than cutting jelly, and his weight should keep him from sailing backward. Too much.]

[ Why would wind be weak to ice? Monika hated that elementary system already. Not because it made no sense, because it kept picking elements she didn't have access to. ]

That's not cool.

[ That's a pun.

And she follows with Prismatic Missiles, better keep attacking regardless. ]

( no problem! actually, that elemancy chart maybe made it all a little too obvious... the joker inside of ren craved a challenge— but after that unblaze of glory last round, he'll make himself useful this time with some ice ninjutsu!

after he takes just a brief moment to ) Hmm... ( at the bottom feeders that rush in. nature is beautiful and gross indeed... )

With Zelgadis up in the Flan's face this round, and thoroughly unwilling to test and see if blizzard magic spreads like Thunder, Castor positions herself between the Flan and Nanamo and uses Whirlwind readying herself for her next opening.

[The air from the air tank aimed at the Flan helps boost the Blizzara spell. The spell and the ice ninjutsu are Super Effective! The Prismatic Missiles also hit for damage, and have the added effect of illuminating the Flan from within, filling the chamber with a peaceful green light.

More jelly goes splattering off of the Flan and is disposed of by the fish, who are so pleased with this outcome.

The Aquatic Flan casts an Aero spell at Noctis, sending him flying backwards. Yeet the prince. The rushing wind sends ripples through the water, which may rock the others back and forth, but do not harm them.]

[Noctis winces as the spell hits and knocks him back, spinning in the water as he tucks in his head and tries to stop himself from going any farther back by channeling a bit of magic into the tonberry doll and have it latch on to the Flan.

Doink.

It's not very effective. Also his back just hit the wall behind them. He gasps and flinches. Sorry guys, he's not going to be much help this round, but hey, good news: he stopped spinning! Bad news: the entire room is spinning.

...Seriously, though. Why is it always him?]

[With Noctis being battered by the Flan, the clear target of it's ire, Nanamo turned towards him and cast a spell. A Cura level spell settles around him, working on healing his wounds.]

Ware your actions everyone, Protect fades!

[ How noble and beautiful of the prince to paint himself as the target of choice for the flan. Not that it was by choice, but regardless his sacrifice was appreciated. She notices however how the jelly goes flying off... ]

Perhaps we can end this quickly by splitting that monster apart.

[ Not that she could do it, so she followed with Earth Grave. ]

I can try with the sword, but I don't think jelly cares how it is attached.

[and he did so, using a standard attack. Well, at least the air tank was useful, and his own weight meant that stray gusts of air didn't bother him as much.]

( looking down at his kunai, ren worried that his blade may stick into the abyss of jelly... and the thought of being unarmed didn't exactly appeal to him.

as he readies himself, there's a sideways glance to make sure the tumbling guy is getting the care he needs, and he takes the opportunity to conjure up MORE ice ninjutsu! it's still glowing green after all, right?

maybe if he can time it just perfectly with the sword strike, they might be lucky to lob off a bigger piece... ) Haa!

Shit!

[ Castor glances quickly around, assessing the situation. She can feel the speed of her Whirlwind fading quickly, so she moves quickly, jetting over to cover Noctis until he can recover his bearings. Then she points her tank at the Flan, having seen the effect that Ice had on it, and lets the tank go. It shoots off like a rocket, streaming bubbles in it's wake.]

Alright, lets see here...


[ And she does something she's never done before.

Castor swaps to Red Mage.

And with the very last of the speed from her Whirlwind, she casts Glacier to chase down the tank, hopping to repeat the earlier trick with the ice and the bubbles. If not, the impact of the tank itself should have some effect. ]

[The Glacier spell and ice ninjutsu freeze pieces of gelatinous Flan body that they touch. The rapid impact of Zelgadis' sword, Castor's air tank, the tiny, adorable poke of the tonberry doll's knife, and the rumbling of Monika's earth spell cause the frozen pieces to shatter. Shards of frozen jelly rain to the chamber floor.

The Flan's body oozes to fill in the holes, once again growing smaller from the lost jelly. It turns Yellow. It casts a Quake spell that shakes the entire party.]

[Zelgadis had drifted down, knocked off balance by the quake, but had his fall cushioned by the water.. He started to rise to his feet.]

That's Earth, which is weak to... oh, you got to be kidding me, water?

[The thing was sitting in a big pile of water. Zelgadis felt like an idiot, but he started flapping his cloak at it, pushing the currents at it.]

This is ridiculous...

[warpstriking]

've heard of dumb moves, but... damn. [His eyes narrow, but he nods to Castor. He's- fine. A bit shaken, but fine.

He tries not to think too much of the last time he fought in water, and instead focus on what they knew.]

Does Water even work underwater?

[He asks, before using Focus and glancing at Nanamo. Nodding his thanks for earlier.]

Unknown, but we should try anyhow. Casting Protect once more!

[The shaking had troubled her, even if it did some damage, she decided to re-up their protection.]

Let's go with the flow!

( yeah, he went there.
along with his water ninjutsu which was also going there— as in towards the flan. after the attack materializes, he squints, finding it hard to discern between his own moves and the water entirely surrounding them... )

[ Still an element she can't do anything about. Why is she so useless in this fight.

She casts Dark Savior again. ]

Tch, course it's the one I can't use right now...

[ Castor grumbles and casts Glacier again, not moving from her spot. ]

[Magic attacks are still effective! More jelly splits from the Slime. The water jutsu blasts off a good portion of gelatinous goo. Zelgadis' flapping helps push a small school of minnows at the slime, which nibble at it. At the end of this wave of attacks, the monster is half its size.

The Aquatic Slime shifts once more, this time turning Purple. It sends out a Bolt, which disperses and hits everyone. Luckily, between the spreading out of the spell and Nanamo's Protect spell, the attack is only about half of its normal potency.]
