FABULA NOVA CRYSTALLIS || INTRODUCTION LOG

Who: All characters (New Arrivals and Native OCs)
When: April 11th
Where: The Dream Width (Airship), the Curti Center, and the Housing District
What: For the first time in 10 years, outworlders have been found the Dream Width. This unprecedented number of new arrivals are rescued and brought to Vaikuntha, and must now try to start adjusting to their new home.
Warnings/Notes: All players can put up a toplevel. Please post to the NPC toplevel if you have an IC question for them.

ARRIVAL

[ You wake from your dreams, from your memories, on a narrow cot. There are fleeting impressions- recycled air, humming machinery, movement, strangers waking around you. The room you wake in is lined with cots, with barely enough space between them to walk to the door. The makeshift infirmary is becoming uncomfortably warm, packed to its capacity with people.

Stepping out, there is a lobby space that bears the signs of having once held some furniture, now cleared away to make space. Even with the sparse accommodations, the space quickly fills to standing-room only.

As the automatic door slides shut on the infirmary, a light flashes on the far side of the room.

A flickering holographic projection of a man’s face and gloved hand appears projected in the space above the arrivals’ heads. He backs up so his upper body is in frame for the recording. An arm, covered in the same orange flightsuit sleeve, hands him a tablet. The man begins to read. A written version of the message scrolls along the bottom of the projection as he speaks. ]

’Welcome travelers’… That’s way too formal. Hey everyone.

Hi!

[ The second man leans into the frame to add his greeting. ]

Don’t panic. You were floating out there, but we pulled you in and rescued you.

Yeah, we’re heroic AND handsome. And also the only ones crazy enough to come out here to get you.

[ A woman’s voice calls from out of frame. ] Can you two be serious for ONE moment and stick to your scripts?

[ The two men give each other a conspiratorial eyeroll. This does not appear to be their first take. ]

Anyways, no need to panic. Seriously, don’t do anything reckless. We got our fill of that with Skywalker.

[A huff is heard offscreen, and the men finally spare the tablet another glance.]

‘Your pilots will be navigating treacherous environs as this message plays…’ Claire, seriously? Nobody talks like this!

[ The tablet is tossed to the side and lands with a thunk offscreen. ]

We’re gonna wing it. Look, everyone, we’re workin’ hard to get you planetside safely, and it’s gonna take some tricky flying to do it. So the door to the cockpit is locked so we can focus on not getting us all killed. Don’t try to open it, unless you want to be stardust.

We promise you’ll get answers about what’s going on once we land. But for now, please trust us. Right now, we’re your only hope.

[ The second man leans forward, close to the recording device, and presses a button. The projection freezes for a moment, and then the message starts to play again. ]

’Welcome travelers’…

CURTI CENTER

[ Finally after hours of flight, you arrive at the Curti Center. The other NPCs await you along with the Native OCs. Cid gives a short and to the point welcome speech, explaining what the situation is: you were lost in a space called the Dream Width. You are now on a planet called Vaikuntha: for ages, the people of this world have used Airships to rescue people lost in the Dream Width, with one person being found roughly every ten years. No one knows why this happens, but this has been a mutually beneficial exchange, with the people from Vaikutha rescuing people lost in the Dream Width and the rescued ones sharing their wisdom with the people of Vaikuntha. Ten years ago, something unusual happened: two people were found at once, Biggs and Wedge. But that was nothing compared to what happened today. Indeed, here you are. No one knows why such a large number of people has been found at once, but the Curti Center is a place dedicated to piercing the Dream Width's secrets.

Cid also introduces the other ones: his assistant Jessie, Claire, the woman looking at the group in horror upon being pointe out as the bookkeeper, Kupoto and Mogaruru, their Mognet representatives and finally the Native OCs: those brave and kind souls who have accepted to help you all on a daily basis.

After Cid finishes (and Claire despairs at the pile of paperwork she must complete by the end of the week), the Native OCs provide a tour of the facility and help the newcomers navigate their future lives. Now is the time to ask questions and look over pamphlets regarding locations, Jobs, life in Vaikuntha... ]

[ If you want to contact an NPC specifically during this introduction, please respond to the toplevel with the name of the NPC in the subject header. The mods will try to reply at least once a day for each NPC. ]

A BALL OF FLUFF NAMED MOOGLE

[ It has been a long day, perhaps now you would like to find your way to a place to sleep? Or perhaps you'd like to get some answers, but you can't be bothered to go seek people out?

And lo, just as despair begins settles in, a Moogle slams into you! Or stops by your side if their aim is decent... It's the Moogle Cid mentioned in his speech earlier! And they'll be informing you that now, they will stick to you like your shadow and help you in anyway they can!

They're also giving you your iMog Slate- Now you can get onto Mognet! Isn't it great? ]

A QUICK CHECK-UP

[ Whether it's your Moogle, Native OCs or NPCs, all will urge you to stop by the hospital wing for a basic check-up. You may disagree, but listen. You've just been thrown into a space between worlds, rescued, and brought to another world. For your own sake, that's a good idea. Should you give in and go (or should you be dragged by your Moogle or a Native OC), you will find yourself in the cold and white space very reminiscent of an hospital. For characters with specific medical conditions necessitating help, this is where they will receive it if asked.

The doctors and nurses are all White Mages or Chemists, with various levels into their Job as well as medical knowledge. Don't mind the confused looks if you look like nothing they've ever seen before... It's hard for a doctor to be unable to give a proper diagnosis to a patient! For everyone else though, they'll be let go with smiles and be given a candy as they leave.

No one likes medical check-ups, but it's a very quick and basic one: testing reflexes, taking your temperature and the likes. On the bright side, while you're grumpily sitting on a bed with a thermometer on your forehead or in your mouth, it might be a good time to socialize with your fellow new arrival who's having lights flashed into their eyes by a doctor. Misery loves company, after all. ]

A BAD OMEN

[ Wandering around, you may stumble upon an old and tired-looking moogle wearing what can only be described as a decrepit fortune-teller attire. Upon seeing you, or any of the new arrivals for that matter, he will slowly approach and tell you all the exact same speech. ]

If you stay here, you're doomed. She will find you and make you suffer hell. [At which point his eyes will grow exorbitant.] This world is cursed. You will die and never be free. [And finally he'll fly right into your face.] Never!

[ Then he will leave and go say his speech to someone else, without doing anything but repeating different variations of his warning if asked for details. Should you ask your assigned Moogle, Biggs or Wedge, they will mention this crazy moogle can't be reasoned with and sometimes stick around the center, even though he's always chased away. He never says anything besides doomsday predictions. For unknown reasons, he's always been particularly nasty with Biggs and Wedge... And with you as well now, it seems. ]

PRETTY SIGHTS

[ There's plenty of rooms to wander about in, with several points of interest apart from the offices.

The Airship Hangar is where the airships are kept and the first room you entered. Workers keep guard to prevent the outworlders from getting too close to the vehicles. Airships are expensive and they don't want you messing with them, after all.

Venturing into the Research Section, you can walk through public exhibitions on astronomy, airship design, and asterisk studies. A good place to get used to the basic science of this world. The laboratories lie behind a thick locked door with a sign reading "EMPLOYEES ONLY". No going there, for now anyway. Not too far from there are the Employee Quarters - work stations, apartments, and lounge areas. The latter are available to the public, whereas the rest is locked to Native OCs. But if you get them to be friends with you, perhaps they'll let you visit?

Also open to all is a Cafeteria - a standard food court with stalls serving all types of Vaikunthan cuisine. The Chef is a very jovial and absent-minded Hypello. Beware of long lines and crowded tables. Should you prefer open spaces, then the gardens are for you! There are different sections in the gardens around the center. One boasts a wide array of blooming flowers, another more practical with herbs commonly used in Vaikunthan cooking. One had been cultivated for butterflies and hummingbirds to visit. Paths have been laid through so that visitors can safely navigate, and moogles will swoop down and shout at anyone who strays into the flower beds.

Or perhaps, you want to wait till the sunset. Dusk on a new world, but a beginning of a new life... The sea shines bright in the orange light. A good moment for quiet contemplation. ]

HOUSING

[The housing accommodations are the best the Curti staff could provide, given the sudden and unexpected number of arrivals from the Dream Width. The keys have been entrusted to the moogles who will be guiding the new arrivals.

The new arrivals can stop by the Curti Center storage room to collect some essential supplies that have been donated by charity organizations from around the world (there are boxes of toothbrushes and whitening toothpaste sent from the Zora, hair brushes from the Elezen, quick-drying towels from the Hypello, among the various donations of clothes, toiletries, and blankets), before heading to their temporary homes. The people of Vaikuntha have done their best to provide for their new neighbors and help them get on their feet.

Still, things will be a little cramped until the off-worlders can find employment and move into better housing. The staff hopes they can get along with one another until alternate arrangements can be made.

You can survive living with roommates for a few months, right?

Warning: Discussion of past trauma, violence, and cannibalism possible. Please see opt-out post here, or avoid tagging if this is a problem.

I. Arrival
Another awakening in an unusual place. For a moment Roxas wonders, by the sound of the machinery, if it's the Fourth God who has him this time. As he comes to, however, it seems as though that assumption is wrong. The young man slowly pushes himself up into a sitting position, staring down at his bare feet- human feet -before lifting his hands to consider them for a moment. Normal hands. No wings attached. He'd think it odd if he hadn't so recently been through a series of events that saw him turned human every morning after a death.

Finally, Roxas heaved himself onto his feet, dusting off his cut-off khaki pants and straightening his sleeveless black shirt with the sides cut almost down to the hem. They hung comically on him now that there was no reason for such alterations, but the former harpy had a feeling he might need those fixes once more. He listened intently to the message as it played, but kept his head down and instead of asking questions or seeking companionship did his best to find a corner to disappear into and watch the scene unfold before him.

"I don't trust any of this," he murmured to himself, sinking to the floor against a wall and hugging his knees to his chest. At least the body heat of others was keeping him warm.

II. Moogle/Omen
Nothing bumped into him, or spoke to get his attention. Nothing tugged at his pant leg. After gathering as many informative pamphlets as he could, as well as the supplies offered by the charity, Roxas had set out of the center to see what else the world could offer by way of information. It seemed he wasn't in Ryslig anymore, though where exactly he was he couldn't be sure. He'd never heard of Vaikuntha, but then again he'd never heard of most places before going there. A sharp noise caught his attention as he'd paused to read a sign, and he looked away from the sign a moment, trying to discern the cause of the sound, before turning back. When he did, an iMog slate was sitting at the foot of the sign with his name written neatly on a piece of paper attached to it. Perplexed,he glanced around, but saw no one nearby that looked close enough to leave such a thing. Odd, but it did say his name...

Continuing along the path brought him to the moogle preaching the end times, and that caught the nobody's attention. He paused to listen, and when the moogle noted a captive audience he came nearer to finish his bit.

"Who is 'she'?" Roxas asked, following after the derranged moogle as he tried to move on to his next victim. "Please, tell me more! I have to know. Are you talking about the Fog God? Is she behind this?" But the moogle seemed uninterested in speaking at greater length on the subject and continued to walk away from Roxas, spouting the same nonsense to others that it had to him. "You can't just say shit like that and walk away!" He growled in frustration. So he had something to worry about and research now...

III. Pretty Sights
The run-in with the strange moogle left a terrible taste in Roxas' mouth, and he found himself heading back to the center to see if there was someone he could seek further information from. There was a tour offered, so... He'd partaken in that, but had to break away when his stomach began growling. Fear struck him dumb for a moment before panic set in. Hunger.

Rather than wander off in search of something to eat, he made for the exit of the building once more, though he became turned around. Instead of winding up back on the street, Roxas found himself standing near the shore of the ocean, staring out at the water just as the sun set. He didn't feel as though he were changing, or that the hunger was growing unbearable, but...

He sighed, walking a little closer to the shoreline to plop down on the line where the grass met the sand, staring into the sunset. The sight made him miss Twilight Town fiercely. A small noise beside him drew his attention, and suddenly there was a sandwich and a banana sitting by his left hip, and looking around he saw no one anywhere nearby. Well... As odd as this was, he was starving, so he picked up the banana and began to munch, attention returning to the colors of the sunset over the ocean.

It wasn't the sunset that drew Demyx to the beach, but the beach itself. He'd wandered there sometime late afternoon and he'd sat at the edge of the water, hands communing with his element, a little more on the morose side because his element was no longer at his disposal.

He was finding that surprisingly difficult, as though something he saw as a part of him was no longer there. He didn't have that many pieces of him left that he felt he could afford to lose them.

He splashed idly a few times before he got up, brushing his damp hands on his coat and pulled his gloves back up as he wandered back along the shoreline and encountered someone sitting there.

Wait, he wasn't there all that time right?

"Hey." He offered cheerfully and as he drew closer he realized who it was. "Oh, hey Roxas!"

[personal profile] chosennobody 2018-04-11 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Well. This was a surprise. Kinda.

"Demyx... Hey," he lifted a hand to wave to the other nobody. Honestly he expected Demyx to be perhaps a little more concerned, maybe ask if he'd seen Larxene, but... Whatever, really.

"So you're here too." Not that they really spoke back in Ryslig, but knowing someone familiar was nearby was nice. In fact... He sorta avoided Demyx because of his close association with Larxene. If she was here, Roxas imagined that distance would remain between them. If she wasn't, though... What would happen? Would they become friends? Or had she poisoned the musician against Roxas?

[personal profile] melodiouspacifist 2018-04-12 01:57 am (UTC)(link)
He had never seen Ryslig, but maybe Roxas wouldn't mind if he sat in the sand next to him, on the side away from the sandwich.

"I was looking at the water." He offered unhelpfully. "I don't really get how we got here. Lost, I guess. The Superior's gonna have my head."

Him, or Xigbar, or Saix...really whoever found him first.

Wandering around with no particular goal in mind, Terra also found himself by the ocean. It reminded him too of somewhere he'd been recently; he hoped those kids were okay. If Xehanort was left unchecked, who knew what would happen? But maybe some of the Light would survive, like in the fairy tales.

Lost in these and similar thoughts, he didn't notice the other person further down the beach at first. But when he did -

"Ven? Ven!"

He broke into a run, shoes slipping on the sand, and Roxas would find a stranger kneeling in front of him, looking like he was the answer to life's prayers.

"You're here too? Are you okay? I'm so glad to see you, Ven!"
chosennobody: (emo)

[personal profile] chosennobody 2018-04-11 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Blame Vanitas, but the second time the word "Ven" reached his ears, Roxas actually looked up. His instant reaction was to tense up and prepare for a fight, since the only person who had referred to him as such had viciously attacked him for their first full month of acquaintance. Then it had been some weird rivalry, then it had evolved into something completely different... but that was another story.

He relaxed just a touch when Terra fell to his knees, and he studied the man's face with a frown. No one he recognized. "Sorry, I'm not Ventus." And he left it at that. Of course the questions would come, the denial, but the truth had already been laid out, and Roxas sat waiting for the rest of the onslaught.

"- You're not?" If he'd said anything else, Terra might just have believed that he'd lost his memory again or something, but even then, when he'd been at his worst, he'd known his own name. Terra's face fell. He'd been so sure. But that face...

"Then who are you?" A horrible thought entered his mind: what if, under the mask... "Vanitas?"

"I'm not really sure we have much of a choice right now," Corrin replied. The kid looked like he was really talking to himself, but she just happened to overhear it.

Truthfully, she wasn't sure how much to believe herself. She understood the possibility of ending up in another realm, but what about her realm? If they didn't finish up their task in Valla, what would become of it? How much time would pass there while she was here instead? These questions were worrying enough without the addition of 'what if we can't trust these people' piled on top of it. However, Corrin was trying to be optimistic at the same time. Maybe there was a perfectly good reason for this.

"I mean they could have just left us there, right?"

The small blond glanced up at the woman, giving her a guarded look before he reminded himself that people here were new, not everyone and maybe no one was aligned with a god yet. Assuming that was the plot of this land. Which he did assume.

He sighed softly before nodding, trying so hard to be positive, but... "They could have... but they probably need us for something." He was just so bad at being positive these days. Ryslig had bled it out of him, and the wounds were still gaping.

But... He reminded himself how valuable his companions and allies had been there. "Um... I'm Roxas," he offered a bit shyly, though he didn't move to stand or offer his hand to her. He'd remain in his curled up, defensive, inconspicuous position.
fatefulprincess: (Default)

[personal profile] fatefulprincess 2018-04-12 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
It probably wasn't wrong to think that. From the sound of it, the ship being out here wasn't actually thought of as a sane thing to do. Saving all of them from being adrift wasn't likely some altruistic act. Something probably was expected from them, but Corrin couldn't imagine what that would be.

"Maybe," she agreed. "I guess we'll find out when we reach wherever it is we're going. At least they are willing to risk coming out to get us."

It was the small things. She'd find some sort of silver lining. Even though Roxas didn't stand or offer a hand, that was fine. Corrin wasn't put off by it. Some of those polite gestures she really didn't understand the necessity for anyway. So she decided that she would just sit down as well.

"Corrin," she replied with a small smile. "Nice to meet you, Roxas."

"So I use this to communicate with people? Do you think I can find my friends using it?" Sora asked as he looked over his iMog slate. Drifting along beside him Nami sighed.

"Only if they're here, kupo-po!" she said for what was probably the tenth time already. This child just didn't learn, did he? He was clearly prepared to ask another question that she had probably already answered but nothing came. Which was odd. Odd enough that Nami stopped floating along and turned around to see what was wrong, finding Sora frozen in his tracks and staring past her at something. The moogle frowned, little paws on her hips. "Sora? What are you--"

"Roxas?!"

Nami let out a squeak of surprise as Sora bolted past her, the moogle spinning around once in the air before scrambling to follow him.

"Sora come back!!"

"Roxas! Roxas it's you! You're here!"

And this time someone was actually using his name rather than someone else's, and it was almost a relief. Well, knowing exactly who that voice belonged to was a relief on its own as well. He turned just in time to get an armful of his somebody. He couldn't help the smile that lit up his face as he buried his nose in Sora's hair.

"It's good to see you too, Sora," he chuckled, rolling his eyes and giving the brunet an affectionate squeeze. Whole and human he noted to himself, just as he himself was.

"You just got here too, right?" Just checking that Sora hadn't somehow been here for weeks or months alone. He didn't look like that would be the case, though it was odd that he was back in his adventuring clothes that the fairies had given him and not the attired he'd been wearing when he'd seen him last...

Sora hugged him tight, not wanting to let go because if he let go this might turn out to be some sort of trick or a dream or something else entirely. As long as he was holding onto Roxas the other was there and solid and real.

"You're here!" It comes out a bit watery and tinged with a laugh, Sora finally pulling back enough to look at the other young man. Tears are threatening to spill--happy ones though!--and Sora beams at Roxas like he's the most important person in the world.

Because right now he is!

"You--how? How are you here and I'm here? I--yeah I just got here--Nami's been showing me around," Sora explained, motioning with a slight jerk of his head to the huffy little moogle hovering nearby before frowning in a confused way. "Roxas are you..you're not still..you have a heart now, right?"

That was important to him. Please say yes.

Hunk has his ears perked up for anything and everything that could be helpful to him. But when he seems some blond kid shouting about some "she" and a "Fog God" on top of that Moogle's frantic shouts, well... the catastrophizing anxiety starts to set in.

"What?! We're dealing with gods?" Hunk has been on enough planets to know that if a deity is involved, it's probably some ancient evil monster. "The last time I met a god, it was a giant evil bug living in a moon!"

And now he's started crying, collapsing to his knees. Part of him wants to cling to this boy for emotional support, but when he remembers that the only evil lady he knows is an ancient space witch, he just starts blubbering.

Someone else's voice rising drew Roxas's attention from the retreating moogle, and he frowned deeply as he regarded the clearly panicked person before him.

"What? That's not-" Well actually weird occurrences with bugs wouldn't be super out of line with his experiences, though he'd avoided the bugs thankfully.

And... now he was sobbing. Roxas really didn't know how to deal with this, but he did know that this person was causing a scene and mass panic was never a good thing. Nor was any potential enemy gods tuning into their conversation because of the commotion the other was causing. Taking a deep breath, he tried to figure out what Sora would do in this situation, but being overly nice to the ball of anxiety in front of him sounded unappealing. Still, if he did nothing...

"Hey, it's okay, there's no bug moon god here," he assured the blubbering man, lowering himself to his knees before him and reaching out to pat his shoulder. "I don't know what the moogle was talking about, but that's not what it was, okay? Just... stop crying. Everything's alright."

"Give it up. Whoever she is, that old little jerk doesn't even have a pin up of her," grumbled the little man in stained robes and a worn out hat that kept his face obscured in darkness. If the smell that emanated from the little, pudgy creature hinted at anything, it was that the more covering the better. BM shook a little, weak fist at the moggle as it floated off to harass someone else with vague prophecies.

"A what?" Sure this guy looks weird, but Roxas has met someone similar. In fact he squints at the short figure to see if maybe he's mistaken and that is Vivi? Well, he hadn't actually met Vivi, just a computer simulation of him. Had Vivi smelled this bad in real life? Not smelling in the simulation made sense, but... Wow. Roxas couldn't help but scrunch his nose a bit. "You're not at least curious?"

"... Leave it," said an older, yet likely familiar voice. "Someone that far gone likely isn't gonna answer anything beyond what they're already spouting repeatedly."

If Roxas looked, he might be in for a bit of a shock. Considering whose face the other was stuck with and come to accept that, even though he looked at least six or so years older than he should be back home. Not that he recognized the other he called out to, but Ira... He knew far too well how something could drive one to madness. He's honestly wondering if he was, himself. Nor was he sure whether he pitied the poor creature, or was annoyed as hell by it. What he is certain of though is that he wants to chuck it out the window. But that won't answer anything, so he settled for rolling his eyes and leaning back against the wall as he studied the 'slate in his own hands.

At least until said deranged moogle practically flew at him to repeat the doomsday message, and instead of just taking it, he held it back with a hand. Nope, not today my good sir.

Oh yes, he knows that voice. Very well. Even aged, he knew it. It wouldn't be the first variation of Riku's voice he'd heard. In Ryslig two versions of the man existed. One was a gargoyle with a deeper, almost rockier voice if that made sense, and the other was a manticore with a bit of a growl or purr in his voice depending on his mood.

The young nobody whipped around to address the source of the voice, his expression surprisingly pleased at the prospect of whichever version this might be, but... It was neither, so far as he could tell, and his expression fell to mild confusion. Had either aged significantly? Maybe Ladon had, since he didn't look much like his human self anyhow. Well, at the risk of being offensive... "Riku? What happened to you? You're... old."

Shun's hearing may not be what it used to be in Ryslig, his senses no longer the fine ones that a werebear is supposed to have, but he may or may not be developing a selective hearing for certain words… and "Fog God" is right at the top of that list. He strides right after the blond kid to reach out and grab his shoulder, eyes narrow as he hisses:

"The Fog God? So this is her doing after all, isn't-"

Then he stops himself right in the middle of the accusation, recognition in his eyes when he actually comes to see Roxas' face.

"…Aren't you one of Crow's kids?"

"Fog god?"

S'reee has her own theories about who 'she' is, or is working for, but it was also true that people from other worlds knew the Lone Power by other names. Nita had told her a few stories her own people had that were inspired by the Lone Power, including that not all humans would know him by the same name or sex, or even as a single being rather than many.

So, time for a bit of comparative mythology.

"The fog god was one of the gods that ruled over the last place I was," Roxas explained, glancing back at the moogle a moment before making his way over to S'reee's side. "She wasn't nice. At all."

He sighed, shoulders slumped. "I hope I'm wrong, but all signs point to this being her doing too. Us being here, I mean."

Arrival

"Of course not, that would be stupid."

Whether or not Roxas had intended a response (and he likely hadn't), he'd gotten one. Another figure was lurking toward the back of the room, though Snow White wasn't trying to hide from the others. He was feeling rather claustrophobic from all the gross human bodies crammed into this ship and he wanted to be as far from the crowd as he possibly could be, given the circumstances. He leaned up against the wall with a sour look, hoping to chase away the rest who even considered getting closer. Not that many would approach a man in a corset and hot pants.

As strange as a corset and hot pants may be to others, Roxas has seen some strange and varied fashion in his time and doesn't have much of a concept of gender norms. Snow was safe from ridicule with him, at the very least. He glanced warily up at the other figure only because he was someone new and Roxas wasn't ready to come from his shell around the inhabitants-- native or not-- of this world.

But here they were, and he wasn't rude enough to disregard someone else initiating conversation. "I mean, it's not like anyone has been outright hostile yet, or anything... But still." New place unexpectedly? The nobody had enough experience not to trust this at all, though at least thankfully he wasn't being chased by anything. Yet.
