Goodbye, Sweet Prince.
Who: Lelouch vi Britannia, Euphemia li Britannia (closed)
When: June 5th, at Night.
Where: Right outside B-08.
What: Euphemia was asked by her sister to no longer associate with Lelouch. And so, she returns to her home to inform him of just that.
Warnings/Notes: None yet.
You can't believe anything he says.
Promise me you'll keep your distance from him.
I know you care about him.
... for your own good.
You cannot associate with him any longer.
[ Returning home never felt so grave. For weeks, it had been a source of respite. Tonight, it was a grave. Returning 'home' filled her with such a sense of dread. Today had been a shock, one that didn't stop. One shock after another. put her on high edge. Even worse when there was barely any time to relax after what was discovered in the Dream Width during their voyage. There was still untouched questions and experiences she wanted to share, yet the arrival of certain individuals made it impossible to focus there. ]
[ She doesn't remember some of it for some reason. A scene or two feels flimsy and foggy, but then the others are far too vivid to forget. Julius was a name she murmured quite often now. A name of someone she recognized and then did not. It left her asking the question of what happened on their world after her death? It wasn't that Lelouch resisted any questions asked, it was simply the fact she was negligent to do so. It felt easier to be blissfully ignorant of their history and try to look forward. The past can't come back to haunt you if you're starting a new leaf. Or so she thought. How wrong she was. ]
[ A hand pressed to the door that she was reluctant to open. Behind that door, Lelouch was either inside doing the usual or somewhere outdoors. Her sister, even if her reasons were strange, at the very least did her a kind favor by allowing her to return. How rude would it be to simply disappear without a trace? He deserved to at least see and understand why she couldn't stay. This was to be their last moment to ever speak. At least until she could figure out a way to convince her sister that Lelouch was not dangerous. At least ... not anymore? Not to her?. What a thing to try and convince given what she knows. What little she was able to learn or, unfortunately, see on her own. ]
[ This was just another challenge she was going to face. Yes, only a challenge. One she believed in overcoming. It is that very fierce resolve that shifts her expression into something determined. She can do this. She can ... tell Lelouch this. It won't be an issue. This is just a very minor setback. It's fine. She can do this. Right?
[ And so she stood at the door. Silent. Uncertain. Afraid... ]

[ And so she stood at the door. Silent. Uncertain. Afraid... ]

So Euphemia should probably open that door. ]
no subject
Buttons? Did Lelouch forget to feed you again? [ Going to scoop her up! ]
no subject
[ An indignant shout from Lelouch as he comes out of his room into the main area. Buttons has already taken up snuggling into Euphemia. Because she is a spoiled thing, in Lelouch's opinion. ]
You're home later than expected.
[ Did you meet someone unexpected? ]
no subject
I wanted to make sure all the new arrivals received as much assistance as necessary. [ Even familiar arrivals. ]
no subject
[ He approaches now. Wiggles his fingers above Buttons and she playfully nips at them. Yes, she is a tool. But even Lelouch has soft spots. Sort of. ]
I saw them today.
no subject
You know.
no subject
[ And from the look in Euphy's eye earlier? She had met up with someone too. ]
no subject
Did you? Who was it?
no subject
[ See, if she isn't going to be honest then he is going to dodge the question. There's no doubt in his mind that she found Suzaku. But in what manner? As Zero? Himself? ]
no subject
Oh. How fortunate. [ Because she's going to assume it's Suzaku seeing as he happily loaned his outfit. ] Are they here?
no subject
[ It's phrased as a question. But it isn't. ]
no subject
So they're not here then?
no subject
[ Lelouch frowns. Following after Euphemia now. He's starting to get irritated, honestly. Why are they skipping around each other like this.]
You're also not denying it.
no subject
I just wanted to know if he was already here. Since he is someone you can trust.
[ A small frown as she turns to face him. ]
Then, ah ... is Suzaku coming to see you here?
no subject
[ What is she doing? Something is wrong. Very, very wrong. Even Buttons notices, chittering in an uncertain tone. ]
I figured Suzaku had enough to try to take in. It isn't easy being here. Then seeing the dead alive can't exactly make it easier.
[ He's already frowning as she looks at him. ]
What's going on, Euphemia.
no subject
[ Just like she apparently has to do. ]
[ Shoulders sink at that question and frown. Analyzing already. It was better to get this done with quickly, so the dresses were plucked from off the hangars quickly that she felt she could carry easily enough. ]
Will you promise to feed Buttons a bit more often? Oh, and attention. She likes attention. She loves being scratched. She adores you, Lelouch. Even if you might not see that.
no subject
He grabs one of her wrists. Not hard. But enough to get her attention. ]
Euphemia. What is going on.
[ Lelouch needs to know where this is coming from. What has Euphy found out? Why is she leaving? It's not the fact that she's leaving him that has him worked up ( at least that's what he's telling himself over and over again). He knows this is what would happen. ]
no subject
[ It was just a few dresses, really. But the sign of her taking clothes no matter how many she knew would set off some alarms. She can't even continue as her wrist is snared. ]
Lelouch...
[ Has he hurt you? ]
We can talk. Just ... not in here. I need my hands, please.
no subject
You don't have to leave. I told you before, didn't I? That I would leave if you wanted it.
[ He'd meant it to. Lelouch had caused her enough pain. Enough suffering. Some of it had been just from their encounter and knowing that Lelouch is, indeed, dead. He'd have told her the rest of it, but she hadn't shown any inclination of asking. In fact, she seemed to want to avoid some of that subject matter entirely. ]
no subject
No. That isn't what I want, Lelouch.
[ Leave? And let him be alone? 'But we work together.' Did she not say as much that day? The day he gave her that chance to turn and walk away if necessary. Even after all that, she couldn't justify leaving him to figure this out alone. Even here, he agreed to work with her, and she was happy to run with it. Except now... it is a good thing perhaps that Suzaku is around. Someone he can trust. ]
I am not leaving. [ Not forever. ] I am ... always going to be here. [ For you. Just not here. ]
[ But having this conversation in this room was going against the very specific wishes of someone she missed desperately. Someone who wanted her to speak these words in plain sight outside where she can see them. Someone who mysteriously arrived along with Suzaku. And someone who seemed highly determined to remove her from what she perceived as a dangerous situation. ]
[ And she knew it was something beyond her understanding. Julius. Suzaku as Zero. Cornelia's anger. The blood on his robes. There were so many pieces missing and she wasn't sure if she wanted to see them put together at all. All that was missing was the truth. But ... Lelouch never wanted to hide that from her. ]
[ Right? ]
But, ah ... I have t, to ...
[ She came back to explain yet now words weren't there. Right when she felt the threat of tears begin to well and really say more than she wanted, only then did she turn to move briskly out the room, clothes in arms. To the main room and towards the door where just beyond it Cornelia was waiting to observe and ensure her sister was doing as promised. Outside where it was safer. Yet going out there was also very final. So once she was at the door, it was only there that she stopped to turn. ]
no subject
[ No, really. How isn't it just walking out that door? Lelouch had offered to leave. He wants to think that she knows that it still stands. However she doesn't seem to actually want to. So what's changed? What's happened that could have...
His brain is rapidly working now. Even though she is walking away and he isn't really moving, Lelouch is thinking. Just what could have changed. What could have happened... Suzaku, maybe. She could be going to wherever he is. Though that seems silly. If anything, Suzaku would probably have come here instead.
It takes a moment for him to actually catch her at the door. ]
You're avoiding something, Euphy. I'm not stopping you, but I still want to know why all of the sudden you've changed your mind.
no subject
[ This is why she didn't collect everything. She is so confident and believes this can be fixed within a day or so! That's all she needs. And she needs him to understand that, because once the door opens, well ... the answer will be clear. ]
I haven't changed anything, Lelouch. [ A beat. He did say for her to remind him. Expression soft and smile genuine. ] We're still a team. Just remember ...
I'm on your side.
[ But for now? Now it was time to open the door and begin to make her way out. ]
no subject
You're not making any sense right now...
no subject
[ She wanted to tell him the second she came home that day. To cheer with delight that she found Cornelia and that they might be able to live together. It wouldn't be quite like home, but with her sister, they were bound to find answers. It was such a good and pure thought that she didn't foresee this outcome at all. Yet there she stood ready to deliver the part she promised. ]
I'm not leaving because I want to. I'm leaving because, ah ... because ...
[ Looking off. Trying to find her? She was around. She just doesn't know where. Of course, she's hiding. Attention falls back to Lelouch, expression firm. ]
Sister wants you to know this is her doing. And that I do not share her thoughts with what she has asked of me.
I can't stay with you anymore, Lelouch.
[ Well... there's no way she can continue smiling now. ]
But don't worry! I'll come back, I'm sure. It will be a very short goodbye! [ Okay, maybe that part could have remained unsaid, but the guilt of having to spring that on him made her blurt out a promise without even realizing it. ]
no subject
[ That's... That actually explains so much. Why Euphy would just up and leave and yet still be torn about it. Of course she is going to do as her big sister asks. And if Cornelia is telling her to stay away from Lelouch then it's likely because she is from further in the timeline. Yet 'a very short goodbye.'
Cornelia hasn't told Euphemia that Lelouch is the instrument of her death. Their big sister is keeping it from the pink princess. But why? ]
She isn't wrong, you know. [ Because there's only one reason Cornelia's doing this. To keep Euphy safe. He'd do the same if it were Nunnally. ] Whatever she's told you, she isn't wrong. You should stay with her, I think.
[ It'd be better for all of them, really. ]
no subject
[ That is the best summary of her expression. Her sister said so much yet so little. The only part that she feels stood out ... she knows he would never do. ]
... Lelouch.
[ If he could easily kill Clovis, he could possibly kill her. All sister was doing was not taking any chances. Because she knew Lelouch was Zero. Even if ... even if Euphy knows he could never do such a thing. ]
[ So whatever look of stunned surprise she had before shifts back to a firm resolve. You can't fool her, Lelouch. ]
I'll return.
[ She can promise that as she turns to head for the fence. ]
no subject
However he had said he wouldn't lie to her either. Out of everyone, the one that deserved the truth is Euphy. Lelouch also knows that face. She doesn't believe him. ]
I know you want to, but you shouldn't. It really is for the best. No matter how much we want them to, things can never go back. They can only move forward.
no subject
It was still hard just swallowing the fact that he killed clovis. She doesn't want to think about what those words he's saying right now might mean. It pains her.
Enough to slow down her pace to the gate, even if she doesn't stop. ]
Moving forward will still be a road back to you, Lelouch. [ She believes that. They may not be able to go back, but that won't stop her from improvising. ] And don't let Buttons escape again.
no subject
[ It's a thought. If she is so determined to return despite his warnings and apparently Cornelia's... He could just leave himself. Lelouch could disappear without a trace. It's not hard to do. After all he hadn't been using his full name here. Many people here had no idea that they are related.
He could do it. ]
no subject
no subject
[ It's not. But he'll survive. He'll manage. ]
We both know that there is too much blood on my hands. I lie. I've killed enough that I've lost count. This is my sentence to be served. So go. Live and be happy with your family that misses you.
[ Because that's how this is supposed to work. Lelouch isn't really meant to live with the people he cares about. Happiness? That isn't for him. It's the only way he can make up for the things that he's done. ]
no subject
[ And that sends her rushing down the small path, past the gardens she worked on, back to the door where he slumped and threw her arms around him into an embrace. ]
[ Dress items dropped to the floor. Departure paused just for a second. Minute. Moment... ]
no subject
When she embraces him? He tries to fight off the urge. His hands stay at his side. Then they shake a little. Before he knows it he hugs her back. Tight.
But what does he say? Why is it always Euphy that makes him lose his nerve? Makes his tongue tied and just at a loss? So Lelouch doesn't say anything. ]
no subject
There was not much else to do but to let the embrace she gave him tell her all that in action, and be comforted by the fact he said something in return by the tight embrace given back. This really was a short goodbye. It really was! She really hopes so. Hope is all she has now.
Now it was time to go as someone is waiting for her. As exciting as it may feel to be reunited with her Sister again, she isn't sure she likes at what cost.
After a time of what did not feel long enough, her arms fell from around him as a step is taken back. She kneels to gather her discarded things and rises to give one last look. But a smile is easier to give this time, even if it is not without some tears.
]
Goodbye ... Lelouch.
[ And this time she really hopes there are not more words spoken out loud as she turns to make her way back to that gate again. ]
