Introduction Log || It's Happening Again (Again!)

Who: All characters (New Arrivals, Previous Arrivals, and Native OCs)
When: June 5th
Where: The Dream Width (Airship), the Curti Center, and the Housing District
What: It is happening again. More outworlders have arrived in the Dream Width and must be rescued and brought back to their new homes on Vaikuntha
Warnings/Notes: Only new players can put up a toplevel. Previous arrivals and native characters can respond to new characters' toplevel posts.

MEMORY

[ You've been here before...? No, wait, why would you think that? You're here in the moment, everything is as it should be...(?) The memory you are trapped in has completely enthralled you. You stop questioning and accept, you relive and repeat. Luckily, you are not alone. Others have arrived to help you. The travelers in the airships will enter the nebula formed by your memories and attempt to wake you up and bring you back to the present. The dreamer's mind will shape how these newcomers are perceived and how the NPCs in the memory respond to them. For more details on the mechanics, please refer to this post]

ARRIVAL

[ You wake from your dreams, from your memories, on a narrow cot. There are fleeting impressions- recycled air, humming machinery, movement, strangers waking around you. The room you wake in is lined with cots, with barely enough space between them to walk to the door, though not all of them show signs of having been occupied. The makeshift infirmary seems like it was prepared to hold many more than are here.

Stepping out, there is a lobby space that bears the signs of having once held some furniture, now cleared away to make space. Your footsteps echo in the emptiness.

As the automatic door slides shut on the infirmary, a light flashes on the far side of the room.

A flickering holographic projection of a man’s face and gloved hand appears projected in the space above the arrivals’ heads. He backs up so his upper body is in frame for the recording. An arm, covered in the same orange flightsuit sleeve, hands him a tablet. The man begins to read. A written version of the message scrolls along the bottom of the projection as he speaks. ]

’Welcome travelers’… That’s way too formal. Hey everyone.

Hi!

[ The second man leans into the frame to add his greeting. ]

Don’t panic. You were floating out there, but we pulled you in and rescued you.

Yeah, we’re heroic AND handsome. And also the only ones crazy enough to come out here to get you.

[ A woman’s voice calls from out of frame. ] Can you two be serious for ONE moment and stick to your scripts?

[ The two men give each other a conspiratorial eyeroll. This does not appear to be their first take. ]

Anyways, no need to panic. Seriously, don’t do anything reckless. We got our fill of that with Skywalker.

[A huff is heard offscreen, and the men finally spare the tablet another glance.]

‘Your pilots will be navigating treacherous environs as this message plays…’ Claire, seriously? Nobody talks like this!

[ The tablet is tossed to the side and lands with a thunk offscreen. ]

We’re gonna wing it. Look, everyone, we’re workin’ hard to get you planetside safely, and it’s gonna take some tricky flying to do it. So the door to the cockpit is locked so we can focus on not getting us all killed. Don’t try to open it, unless you want to be stardust.

We promise you’ll get answers about what’s going on once we land. But for now, please trust us. Right now, we’re your only hope.

[ The second man leans forward, close to the recording device, and presses a button. The projection freezes for a moment, and then the message starts on the next recorded message. ]

CURTI CENTER

[ Finally after hours of flight, you arrive at the Curti Center. The other NPCs await you having been notified of your retrieval in the Dream Width. Cid gives a short and to the point welcome speech, explaining what the situation is: you were lost in a space called the Dream Width. You are now on a planet called Vaikuntha: for ages, the people of this world have used Airships to rescue people lost in the Dream Width, with one person being found roughly every ten years. No one knows why this happens, but this has been a mutually beneficial exchange, with the people from Vaikutha rescuing people lost in the Dream Width and the rescued ones sharing their wisdom with the people of Vaikuntha. Ten years ago, something unusual happened: two people were found at once, Biggs and Wedge. But that was nothing compared to what happened two months ago. And now, here you are. No one knows why such a large number of people has arriving lately, but the Curti Center is a place dedicated to piercing the Dream Width's secrets.

Cid also introduces the other ones: his assistant Jessie, a young woman fascinated by the new arrivals, Claire, the woman sighing and writing in her schedule book upon being pointed out as the bookkeeper, Kupoto and Mogaruru, their Mognet representatives and finally the Native OCs: those brave and kind souls who have accepted to help you all on a daily basis.

After Cid finishes (and Claire grumbles at her work never being done), the employees, including the Native OCs, provide a tour of the facility and help the newcomers navigate their future lives. Now is the time to ask questions and look over pamphlets regarding locations, Jobs, life in Vaikuntha... ]

[ If you want to contact an NPC, you can do so on the NPC Contact Page. ]

A BALL OF FLUFF NAMED MOOGLE

[ It has been a long day, perhaps now you would like to find your way to a place to sleep? Or perhaps you'd like to get some answers, but you can't be bothered to go seek people out?

And lo, just as despair begins settles in, a Moogle slams into you! Or stops by your side if their aim is decent... It's the Moogle Cid mentioned in his speech earlier! And they'll be informing you that now, they will stick to you like your shadow and help you in anyway they can!

They're also giving you your iMog Slate- Now you can get onto Mognet! Isn't it great? ]

A QUICK CHECK-UP

[ Whether it's your Moogle, Native OCs or NPCs, all will urge you to stop by the hospital wing for a basic check-up. You may disagree, but listen. You've just been thrown into a space between worlds, rescued, and brought to another world. For your own sake, that's a good idea. Should you give in and go (or should you be dragged by your Moogle or a Native OC), you will find yourself in the cold and white space very reminiscent of an hospital. For characters with specific medical conditions necessitating help, this is where they will receive it if asked.

The doctors and nurses are all White Mages or Chemists, with various levels into their Job as well as medical knowledge. Don't mind the confused looks if you look like nothing they've ever seen before... It's hard for a doctor to be unable to give a proper diagnosis to a patient! For everyone else though, they'll be let go with smiles and be given a candy as they leave.

No one likes medical check-ups, but it's a very quick and basic one: testing reflexes, taking your temperature and the likes. On the bright side, while you're grumpily sitting on a bed with a thermometer on your forehead or in your mouth, it might be a good time to socialize with your fellow new arrival who's having lights flashed into their eyes by a doctor. Misery loves company, after all. ]

PRETTY SIGHTS

[ There's plenty of rooms to wander about in, with several points of interest apart from the offices.

The Airship Hangar is where the airships are kept and the first room you entered. Workers keep guard to prevent the outworlders from getting too close to the vehicles. Airships are expensive and they don't want you messing with them, after all.

Venturing into the Research Section, you can walk through public exhibitions on astronomy, airship design, and asterisk studies. A good place to get used to the basic science of this world. The laboratories lie behind a thick locked door with a sign reading "EMPLOYEES ONLY". No going there, for now anyway. Not too far from there are the Employee Quarters - work stations, apartments, and lounge areas. The latter are available to the public, whereas the rest is locked to Native OCs. But if you get them to be friends with you, perhaps they'll let you visit?

Also open to all is a Cafeteria - a standard food court with stalls serving all types of Vaikunthan cuisine. The Chef is a very jovial and absent-minded Hypello. Beware of long lines and crowded tables. Should you prefer open spaces, then the gardens are for you! There are different sections in the gardens around the center. One boasts a wide array of blooming flowers, another more practical with herbs commonly used in Vaikunthan cooking. One had been cultivated for butterflies and hummingbirds to visit. Paths have been laid through so that visitors can safely navigate, and moogles will swoop down and shout at anyone who strays into the flower beds.

Or perhaps, you want to wait till the sunset. Dusk on a new world, but a beginning of a new life... The sea shines bright in the orange light. A good moment for quiet contemplation. ]

HOUSING

[The housing accommodations are the best the Curti staff could provide, given that they are still also sheltering most of the previous arrivals from the Dream Width. The keys have been entrusted to the moogles who will be guiding the new arrivals.

The new arrivals can stop by the Curti Center storage room to collect some essential supplies that have been donated by charity organizations from around the world (there are boxes of toothbrushes and whitening toothpaste sent from the Zora, hair brushes from the Elezen, quick-drying towels from the Hypello, among the various donations of clothes, toiletries, and blankets), before heading to their temporary homes. The people of Vaikuntha have done their best to provide for their new neighbors and help them get on their feet.

Still, things will be a little cramped until the off-worlders can find employment and move into better housing. The staff hopes they can get along with one another until alternate arrangements can be made.

You can survive living with roommates for a few months, right?]

THE JOB FOR YOU

[An important part of life on Vaikuntha is the Job (or Jobs) you choose to take. No, not the way you earn your living. Your Job Class. Most Natives only choose one or two, but you'll have an opportunity to take on more Job Asterisks after you master your first Jobs.

The Curti Center's resident Job Master, Ganeshan, is more than happy to arrange transportation to the various Guilds so that you can claim your first Asterisks. ]

Oddly enough, Vaikuntha made Connie's Earth seem even weirder in some areas. True, she was living in a place filled to bursting with JRPG cliches, but on the other hand there weren't conquering empires of genderless space rocks waiting to suck the planet dry. "...kinda. My friend had the brilliant idea of riding this weird new pet that he got on a mission to the movies, and it ended up running across the water and teleporting us to some secret armory, where he made the brilliant decision of activating a training robot meant for seasoned warriors and not some goofy kids. I ended up pulling the sword out of Lion's mane and we used it to reflect the robot's blasts back at it."

...Cornelia would probably need some proof. To demonstrate her point, Connie walks over to Lion, whose mane and eyes begin to glow white at seeing her intent, deposits Rose's sword within the mane's pocket dimension, and subsequently pulls it out. Shaking her head, Connie says, "I wish I could say I'm making this up but I'm not."

Yes. The Summoner's Guild is in Arito. However, Summoners are few among us and it doesn't seem like many have begun to speak to the Eidolons in order to summon them.

[Maybe eventually one would, but not yet.]

... Thank you. The actual exterior still needs to be made. I thought you might be him coming back earlier...

[That was why the whole... hot water thing.]

The Astrals are the Hexatheon, the Six Gods that stand watch over Eos.

[The explanation is rote. Born into the family of the gods’ Oracle, he had been taught the Astrals’ names almost before he could speak his own.]

They would make themselves known, were they here, from either their demand for sacrifice or from the destruction they leave in their wake. [He makes no attempt to conceal his bitterness. The brunette may wear a smile, whether it be real or a mask to hide behind, but Ravus is beyond the point of sycophancy on behalf of his gods.]

Do you have gods on your world?
sonoftenebrae: (Um no)

[personal profile] sonoftenebrae 2018-06-08 08:10 am (UTC)(link)
[Ravus has learned a little about how the arrivals through the Dream Width are not always from the same time. It is not an easy subject to broach. ‘Ignis, last we met, you witnessed the death of my only family and prevented me from murdering your liege lord. Oh, and you wore the ring that burned off my arm. Do you remember?’

He focuses on Ignis’ question instead, returning the nod of greeting with a minute dip of his head.]

Yes, that is what I am told. I was explaining to Estoc why alternate arrangements should be made.

[The moogle crosses her tiny arms. She may be as stubborn as Ravus in her own way.]

’I cannot abide by the Amicitia’s presence.’ ‘The king and his men will consider me a threat.’ Excuses, excuses, kupo. This guy is just being grumpy, kupo.

[Ravus and his Moogle both barrow their eyes at one another before turning to Ignis, each with a look that says, ‘Do you see what I have to deal with?’]

I'm sorry, but would you mind stepping out of the way? I was just looking at this—

[ She finally gets a good look at him and realizes she doesn't recognize him. Considering he probably wasn't a native Vaikunthian (?) here on vacation, that could only mean one thing. ] Oh. [ She stands up. ] My apologies. You're new here, aren't you?

Hey, it's okay!

[Tidus is quick to loosen his stance, looking concerned---honestly, he was just on a walk on his way to...well, he wasn't sure exactly where. But the kid looks like he's used to being attacked at little provocation.]

But why do you think I'd think you'd hurt me?
zanarkandian: (head scratch)

II

[personal profile] zanarkandian 2018-06-08 12:04 pm (UTC)(link)
[It's been a harrowing rescue mission for sure. Tidus has been flitting this way and that, trying to distract himself from all the odd prying into each other's memories. Least he can do is help out. He lifts a hand in greeting]

Hey, take it easy, okay? It's pretty weird waking up here---those are your friends, right?
regalblaze: (Considering 🔪 With me)

[personal profile] regalblaze 2018-06-08 12:19 pm (UTC)(link)
[It is an odd thing to get used to. Also- Ravus is not too off the mark. The only thing that would be new for Ignis would be the fact that he wore the ring. Because the last thing he remembers is them getting knocked out by Ardyn.

Ignis raises his eyebrow and turns to Moogle to listen to the explanation. Figures. All of those reasons are valid.]

Well, his Highness and I don't consider you a threat. I doubt Prompto would either. [There's a bigger chance he'll be intimidated by Ravus.] As for Amicitia family- I am sure we can reach an agreement.

Of course, if you truly wish not to stay, no one will hold you back. For now, I do recommend you rest here. I know that the travel with a spaceship is uncomfortable and disorienting. [Don't bring decisions so rashly Ravus.]

Come in. I'll make us some coffee.

[Hope opened his mouth to speak, whether to answer the old man or continue talking to Lightning was unknown as there was a sudden explosion above, followed by the summoning of the twin sister Eidolon, Shiva.

Dream or not, Hope couldn't help but be enthralled still as the ice formed several graceful arcs and curves, large enough for Snow to get on the Eidolon, Fang soon following suit, and riding down to gun down the soldiers that also tried to shoot at them and the pair below. Lightning quickly snatched Hope's wrist to pull him through, her gunblade blazing and adding to the gunfire.

Snow's bike flew overhead and landed with a screech beside them as PSICOM fled or retreated, Hope having clutched his head to protect himself. He let go of his ears once all the gunfire ended, the area littered with bullets and broken ice. His heart pounded, fear still gripping him even as he turned to the newcomers.]

...it's Snow. It's-...

[Wait. He paused. Confused. Feeling an overwhelming sense of deja vu. He suddenly remembered the ghost of a hand on his shoulder before Lightning had pulled him away. He should be feeling resentment and anger toward Snow, but he didn't. He shouldn't have known who Fang was yet, but he did. He looked around.]

Yes, they are. Where are they?

[Panic was starting to grip him again. He hadn't been without them before, not for long. Hope was trying so hard to not be a burden, to always ask for help like before, but it was still hard. To be on his own.]

They were... we were- I... [They were turning to crystal. They had gone to sleep. Vanille and Fang had become Ragnorak. Did they save Cocoon?]

It's really not going to get worse.

[He gave a small glare at the moogle, turning to the gentleman and gave him a small smile. Mogki, his own moogle buddy, was resting on his head. Perhaps a ball of fluff on a teenaged boy's head might help?]

I can go in with you. I already got my check up, it isn't bad. They just want to make sure you're not sick or carrying anything potentially contagious. People from different worlds and galaxies are exposed to different things, so they aren't immune to other things people carry.

[He also got candy for it. Which wasn't an incentive, but it had been a nice gesture after being poked and prodded. He gave Valli a wait gesture, to stop her from forcing Finn.]

Cor is busy in the kitchen, making a quick meal for himself and his Moogle companion. Said Moogle, however, is the one who answers the door first...mainly because his human froze upon hearing that all-too-familiar voice.

Hope Regis isn't put off by a Moogle who is dressed up like a Tonberry. "Oh! Good afternoon, sir, ma'am. Are you two visiting, or fellow roommates?"

Well if he didn't already feel guilty about witnessing yet another personal memory, this certainly pushed him toward it. Especially with that look he caught on the younger man's face. At least, until he took in the surroundings which seemed... familiar. Oh Six, don't tell him that this would actually be another family affair-

Yet he couldn't find words to say just yet, instead waiting for something else to go off of. Who exactly was it in their family line?

[It is an accusatory question, yes, but not entirely aggressive. If she is to accept this Zero as a permanent presence in the political sphere, then she needs to know why. Why him. Why the role is being perpetuated by someone who has always been the knight and not the leader. Why the world should put its faith in him. Why.]

Emeralda Kasim | OTA

[personal profile] remnantofzeboim 2018-06-08 03:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Curti Center A

"Elly? Fei?"

Emeralda had wandered out of her explanation meeting pretty quickly, not having the patience for listening to people talking and talking when she still didn't entirely understand what was going on.

Instead, the teen was walking through the center, green hair trailing behind her, staring at all the people passing by, looking for any faces she recognized. They had to be here, didn't they? They wouldn't have left her alone like this. Short and thin, dressed in slightly ragged clothing, she only stood out because of that hair of hers, and the annoyed expression on her face.

"Where they go..."

She huffed to herself.

Curti Center B

There had been a book she noticed, too high for her to reach but with a brightly colored cover that kept drawing her eye, and finally she stopped, looking up at it for a few seconds before she stretched her arm up towards it...]

[And nothing happened.

"What?"

She dropped her arm down, staring at her hand, flexing the fingers slowly, and then stretched her arm up again. Stretch. Stretch!

Nothing happened!

"Can't change." She said, dropping her hand again, turning to look at whomever happened to be passing by. "Emeralda can't change! Why can't change?"

A Quick Check-Up

Emeralda sat on the end of the examination bed, her legs swinging, the heels of her bare feet tapping against the bottom of the bed in alternating rhythms, waiting to be told she could leave. She'd only come in because her moogle had insisted, saying it was 'important for safety!' and she could imagine Elly or Fei frowning at her if she skipped something important. But now she was stuck watching two white mages looking at readings they had written down, and then at her, and then shaking their heads.

"Not human?"

She offered in what she hoped was helpful voice, which just earned her an exasperated look from one of the games, who suddenly hurried over again to press a thermometer between Emeralda's lips. Emeralda just stared at her until she took it out again, and leaned up to look at the numbers. Ninety-one degrees.

"That high number. Can go now?"

The white mage just sighed and turned to talk with her associate again, and Emeralda rolled her eyes and turned to look around, spotting the person on the next bed over.

"You tell I not human? Maybe listen."

She asked hopefully. Poor stranger getting wrapped into weird robogirl problems...

Pretty Sights

Emeralda and her moogle, Fidget, were wandering through the research center, looking at all the signs and explanations. Emeralda was mostly interested in the asterisk explanations, there were so many! But the astronomy pictures held her attention too.

"It pretty." She said to her little moogle, who was fluttering around in a circle, apparently with as much energy as the girl. "But all different."

"Oh yes, science here is really different from other places! People are always talking about how they have to get used to things like jobs and airships, it's all very strange to us!"

She suddenly darted down to give Emeralda a little hug.

"But you'll pick it up, I'm sure!"

Then she was back to fluttering around, and Emeralda turned her attention to the asterisk explanations again. She had to pick one of these, right? Hmm...

Housing

Emeralda had found the house she was staying in with Elly and Fei and someone else, B13, and it was nice and fine, but now she was exploring the neighborhood! Or, more specifically looking at the houses of the people nearby. She wasn't quite peering in the windows, but it was close!

She'd never lived in a neighborhood before. It was a lot different from sleeping on the ship! And it was full of strangers and...

Okay, yeah, she was peering in a window. She was curious! But eventually someone had to spot her, and she twisted around, her expression somewhere between 'hand caught in cookie jar' and 'oh hey new person to meet'.

"Uhm. Hi?" She said after a couple seconds of staring. "...You live here?"

[OOC: If there's a different prompt you want or want to run into Emeralda somewhere else, just let me know over on plurk at [plurk.com profile] dalrint! She'll be wandering all over the place.]

[Emeralda was pacing slowly around the waiting area, almost like a cat wanting to get outside, her little moogle trailing along after her chattering about who-knew-what. She stopped when the woman addressed her, looking up (and up and up) at the much taller woman.]

Yes. Been in though. [The teen answered.] They say wait because numbers don't make sense. Tell when Emeralda leave.

[The green haired girl was clearly less than thrilled about this, from the way she was grumbling.]

And you are going to wait! [Chimed in her moogle from behind her, and earning an eye roll from the girl, who just looked back at the tall woman while ignoring her moogle.]

You not wait long if human, Emeralda guess.

[She explained to the woman.]

[ The pin. The Pin. In that moment she even forgot it was still in her hands. Perhaps because the one it symbolized was now standing right before her. "Hey! If you do that she'll be lonely! What if she has friends or family here and can't find them? You aren't supposed to be making decisions like that for them!"

A small, energetic moogle came fluttering up towards Sasami and her own companion, clearly having overheard Kujo's decision to lock her out of most of her iMog Slate's useful features. A green haired teenager was following after her at a stroll, looking...well. Pretty amused, honestly.

But rather than head towards the moogles, her path took her towards the kid...she hadn't seen many people younger than her. She offered a little smile and a finger-wave from her right hand. "Hi." And then pointed at her slate.

"I maybe fix?" She had spent a while poking around with hers so far. It helped that she was basically made of tiny computers.
