Pet projects
Who: [OU] Red Savarin and you- including new arrivals!
When: August 03 - August 14th
Where: Cloud City and occasionally Curti Center
What: Red's finally convinced the Magitek Knights to retrofit his beloved mecha DAHAK-AZI03 to be combat-capable and he's keen on showing it off... but he's still got one other big item on his agenda: Fixing up his airship. And he's a little short on cash for it.
And that yearning to feel the high-altitude winds in his face once again was about the only thing that could have gotten Red to set up a petting booth.
Warnings/Notes: No content warnings yet.
A. Canis Ex Machina
[It only took him a gruelling four months since his arrival- or three, less the month it took for his battered-yet-beloved mecha to tumble in through the Dream Width- but, after a few favors and finally getting the sign-off from the Magitek Knights, Red was back in the saddle and at the controls of the new and improved DAHAK Mk. II! ...Or was it Mk. III now?
Whatever the case, he was four months late in taking it out for a stroll, and gleefully enjoyed a few mech-mounted strolls through the windswept streets of Cloud City... and, once word came back that the Dream Width was acting up again, he extended his promenade to Curti Center, all too readily slipping back into his old habit of trying to find any job or task to which he could lend the aid of an awesome mech. He'd had this thing sitting slumped over in cargo for far too long-- it was time to get some use out of it again!
Besides, he'd promised a few people he'd show them his mecha. So much the better that he waited until it was up and running again, right?]
B. Ruffled Fur
[But even if he did have his Mecha back, there still remains the teeny-tiny issue of the fact that it was sitting in the cargo bay of an immobile airship with an empty tank and not a fuel pump in Vaikuntha that carried the grade of fuel from back in the Shepherd Republic. It was getting old having to keep the Asmodeus parked and grounded a mile outside Cloud City, and those engine refits wouldn't be cheap.
Being a Blitzball Benchwarmer wasn't speeding up the process as much as he'd have liked. Leviathan's prize helped a little- really, it was almost worth having to see a chunk get bitten out of a fish-deity- but it wasn't enough. Fortunately, Mocha had figured out an idea on how to get some extra dough in a hurry-- something neither his fans nor a good chunk of Vaikuntha would be able to pass up.
Unfortunately, it was a petting booth.
And that's how Red ended up at a cheap wooden stall- looking none too thrilled to be there- set up at a corner of Cloud City (and later, Curtis Center), seated on a small stool with his mecha powered down behind him, yet with a big sign in its metallic grasp proudly proclaming in bold block letters:]
PETTING BOOTH
50 GIL
You know you want to!
[Think of your beloved airship, Red. Do it for the airship.]

[It wouldn't be a mech, but that would be something, right? But in the meantime...
DAHAK's upper torso would twist slightly, and those long, flat arms were reached down to the ground. An elegant ramp was formed from Azusa's feet to the shoulder and cockpit.]
Hop in.

It's not a vehicle that flies, but we have these amazing machines that drive over ice, making it smooth again...don't you think that's wonderful?
[Zamboni, the modern miracle. She reaches the cockpit, not quite sure where to sit...she looks to him for advice on this.]
Hmm...where do you want me to sit?
no subject
[Shoot, he didn't think ahead to this... Well, the open-air cockpit IS a little small, but Red quickly scoots over to the side, leaving the bulk of the seat open for Azusa. It's not his first time taking a passenger into the DAHAK alongside him, but... it's probably the first time he ever actually felt a tiny bit self-conscious doing it.
He readies himself with an anxious sigh he hopes isn't too/i> loud, and finally motions to the seat with a quick pat. He's practically ground himself into the side wall in the process, but...
Well, what else is he supposed to do?!]
...How's that?

[She places her hand on her cheek; it's the traditional Azusa-thinking pose. Something about this doesn't feel right to her. It's a bad arrangement, but she does as she's instructed. She eventually seats herself, and then she sets about looking on each side of her until she finds the lever that adjusts the seat. Did it not have one before? It does now. Wow.
Once she adjusts the seat a little, she looks at him with a smile.]
This will do, I think. You can sit in my lap like this, right? There's room for both of us like this~.
1/2
But she did have the right idea-- it'd be better than him trying to take the controls of the thing, leaning entirely across her, with his posterior halfway on the the rim of the cockpit. But... wasn't it usually supposed to be the other way around?!
Well, maybe he could shift himself in juuuust a little bit. Their hips would touch, but she seemed pretty obviously okay with that idea, so he'd just brace himself with an arm, ease onto his half of the seat--
...skid off the edge, lose his leg traction slip right into the middle, and plant his rump squarely in Azusa's lap in a flawless princess carry.
furballs.]

...but turned back to Azusa after only a short breath to steady himself, a bit of a smile on his face.]
...Yeah, but I don't wanna block your view.

[The joke will go completely over his head, but she's comparing him to a clumsy friend of hers. She'll explain the joke later. Before she can help him sit upright, he's back on his feet, with only a gentle and understanding smile from her. Soon, they're sharing the seat, but she can't help but feel this is uncomfortable for him. She would have been fine with Red in her lap, tail and all.
Maybe if it were someone else, she wouldn't be...but Red is Red.]
I think I could've managed...but if this is comfortable for you, I don't mind at all. Does this make me your co-pilot?
[She scoots a little, trying to make the seat comfortable for the both of them.]
no subject
[He was pretty sure that quip was a crack at his ungraceful move, even if he didn't get the joke. Oh well-- poke the mutt, watch him squirm, Azusa. Especially since once the mech actually starts moving, his hips start to slide into her lap regardless.]
...but you're right, it would be nice to have a 'co-pilot' in here with me for a change.
[It was either that or 'navigator.' ...So co-pilot it was.]
no subject
[His first guest, that is. Well, it's just flattering either way. She makes herself a bit more comfortable...ah, his tail is right there. Come to think of it, she's never really pet him before. It seems like now would be a bad time to ask, but her mind wanders for a few seconds.]
Alright, then. It's settled. Tell me, what buttons should I be pressing?
[She punctuates her sentence with a giggle. She's probably teasing. She's not the Deedee to anyone's Dexter.]
