Pet projects

Who: [OU] Red Savarin and you- including new arrivals!
When: August 03 - August 14th
Where: Cloud City and occasionally Curti Center
What: Red's finally convinced the Magitek Knights to retrofit his beloved mecha DAHAK-AZI03 to be combat-capable and he's keen on showing it off... but he's still got one other big item on his agenda: Fixing up his airship. And he's a little short on cash for it.

And that yearning to feel the high-altitude winds in his face once again was about the only thing that could have gotten Red to set up a petting booth.
Warnings/Notes: No content warnings yet.

A. Canis Ex Machina
[It only took him a gruelling four months since his arrival- or three, less the month it took for his battered-yet-beloved mecha to tumble in through the Dream Width- but, after a few favors and finally getting the sign-off from the Magitek Knights, Red was back in the saddle and at the controls of the new and improved DAHAK Mk. II! ...Or was it Mk. III now?

Whatever the case, he was four months late in taking it out for a stroll, and gleefully enjoyed a few mech-mounted strolls through the windswept streets of Cloud City... and, once word came back that the Dream Width was acting up again, he extended his promenade to Curti Center, all too readily slipping back into his old habit of trying to find any job or task to which he could lend the aid of an awesome mech. He'd had this thing sitting slumped over in cargo for far too long-- it was time to get some use out of it again!

Besides, he'd promised a few people he'd show them his mecha. So much the better that he waited until it was up and running again, right?]

B. Ruffled Fur
[But even if he did have his Mecha back, there still remains the teeny-tiny issue of the fact that it was sitting in the cargo bay of an immobile airship with an empty tank and not a fuel pump in Vaikuntha that carried the grade of fuel from back in the Shepherd Republic. It was getting old having to keep the Asmodeus parked and grounded a mile outside Cloud City, and those engine refits wouldn't be cheap.

Being a Blitzball Benchwarmer wasn't speeding up the process as much as he'd have liked. Leviathan's prize helped a little- really, it was almost worth having to see a chunk get bitten out of a fish-deity- but it wasn't enough. Fortunately, Mocha had figured out an idea on how to get some extra dough in a hurry-- something neither his fans nor a good chunk of Vaikuntha would be able to pass up.

Unfortunately, it was a petting booth.

And that's how Red ended up at a cheap wooden stall- looking none too thrilled to be there- set up at a corner of Cloud City (and later, Curtis Center), seated on a small stool with his mecha powered down behind him, yet with a big sign in its metallic grasp proudly proclaming in bold block letters:]

PETTING BOOTH
50 GIL
You know you want to!

[Think of your beloved airship, Red. Do it for the airship.]

That... bears looking into. "A theatre... Now that does sound like an opportunity. I could give it a look, I suppose..." He taps his chin, looking thoughtful. "It is indeed the sorta fancy stuff I'm into, Red, thanks so much for that summation. I shall have to pay her a visit. Do you know where it is?"

In fairness, Kuja hasn't actually made a move to partake in any petting! Maybe the distraction was successful! Or maybe Kuja just isn't the petting type. "Lady of Bliss... Yes, I'll have to visit and give it a look."
Well, now he's thinking about things. "Your advice is... appreciated. Well worth twenty-five gil, I think, and I won't have to contribute to you humiliating yourself for what I assume is an airship, since you mentioned engines."

That raises an eyebrow. "They find airships there? How odd. I can't say I'd know what to do if the Hilda Garde was found. It's not as though I know what to do with a steam engine, there were always people to do that..." Not here, though.
"The freedom to go where I please has a certain appeal, however."

"Freedom is a powerful motivator, yes." He entertains, for a moment, a ludicrous thought; something not unlike the Prima Vista in design. Not very vast, perhaps, but grandiose, luxurious- and altogether beyond his reach, certainly. At least for the forseeable future.
"Probably for the best. I think I'd rather avoid potential... entanglements with anything from Gaia." Or Terra, for that matter.

"Oh, yes. I remember the posting for something about business in the Empire from him... And, well, if he has a monopoly on the airship market, it's easy to see how he can afford it."
A moment, while he thinks that one through. "Does anybody know the recipient? It's entirely possible it was just a publicity stunt to smooth over some public relations disaster. I wouldn't be surprised." It's the sort of thing I'd do, after all.

"In fairness, last time I was already a very powerful mage and it took me about..." He thinks back, carefully taking stock of the time. "About ten years, give or take, to really establish myself and set up all my connections, ensure aliases wouldn't be checked on, cover my tracks so that certain parties wouldn't get the idea that I was disobeying orders... Yes, ten years sounds about right."
