Who: All New Arrivals and Curti Center Staff
When: April 15th-30th
Where: All over Vaikuntha, starting outside of the airship hanger
What: Ganeshan, the resident Job Expert, will be taking the new arrivals around the the various Guilds so they can collect their chosen Job Asterisks as noted in their applications.

Enter the Master

[Each new arrival's iMog buzzes with a message instructing them to gather for a worldwide adventure to obtain the power of Vaikuntha. If they follow the invitation's instructions, they will arrive at outside of the airship hanger on the morning of the 15th, with their meager belongings packed.

An Enterprise-Class airship, the Ragnarok, hovers outside of the Curti Center. There is a flash of light on the top of the ship.]

"WELCOME!"

[A figure, minuscule at this distance, launches itself off of the ship and hurtles toward the ground. As he draws closer to the ground, he starts to flip, landing with a flourish. An armored figure, sans helm, turns his toothy Zora grin to the crowd. With a shimmer, his armor transforms into a white mage's robe, and he sends a rush of wind through the crowd for dramatic effect.]

"I AM GANESHAN, THE JOB MASTER! GYA HA HA HA! TODAY, YOUR LIVES WILL CHANGE FOREVER."

[Ganeshan shimmers again, ruthlessly abusing the Chemist's Modifier skill to once again shift Job Classes so he can lower the airship's loading dock with a wave of his hand.]

"I BELIEVE THAT EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU HAS THE ABILITY TO MASTER THE JOB CLASSES. SOME OF YOU MAY MASTER MANY, OTHERS WILL PURSUE THE PERFECT MASTERY OF JUST ONE. BUT EITHER WAY, YOU'LL BE INCREDIBLE!"

[Ganeshan gives everyone a big thumbs-up. The out-worlders who are not scared off by this booming speech can feel free to enter the airship and prepare for their ride around the world. Hopefully some of the Curti Center's newest hires can serve as ~~non-crazy~~ less exuberant tour guides for the new arrivals.]

Around the World

[The Ragnarok will be stopping at every major city in Vaikuntha, with the exception of those cut off by the Imperial border closing. Characters can create top levels to respond to the Guild prompts and explore the cities themselves as the ship makes its stops. Each Guild provides information sessions, free food and trinkets for potential applicants, and once you're ready to receive your Asterisk, all you have to do is take some introductory lessons and fill out forms. Characters can receive up to two asterisks. Time to get to know your new world!

[There's nothing shameful in not succeeding on the first try. Especially when it comes to things like this. It's a tricky thing and it requires a lot of practice. Ignis currently has only book knowledge of how things are done, all the practice hours gone.]

It is a balance one has to find in their grip. Too lax and you will drop the blade. Too firm and you won't be able to properly aim.

Try again. Practice makes perfect.

[Sounded like a 'goldilocks' situation. Yet even he knew that when he threw a chair or even his bike, having stiff arms would only hurt himself while being to loose meant you were just a kid with a tantrum throwing things around and not getting anything done. He took up another knife with a nod.

Shoulders. Feet. He extended his arm, raised slightly, and drew it back. Here goes...]

Okay, let's go-

[Thnk. It embedded shallowly, enough that it drooped, but it remained on the target. Kanji's eyes brightened.]

Wha- HELL YEAH! Holy crap!

[Ignis took a step back to give the guy some space. He looked as if he took the advice to heart and Ignis was more than satisfied with that. Because-

-it usually ends up with positive results, like the guy just demonstrated. Ignis crosses his hands with a somewhat satisfied smirk.]

Good job. You sound surprised. [He followed the instructions dutifully. The only thing left is practice.

Ignis picks up a knife for himself.]

May I?

'Course I was surprised! I've been throwin' the damn things for up to 45 minutes and I don't even get 'em to stick.

[But he stepped back and gestured to the knife.]

Yeah, sure, go nuts.

Just follow the basic rules and it will be alright.

[Speaking of- Ignis takes one of the knives and stands in front of the target. Following his own advice, he aims a little bit above the target, wrist relaxed but the grip on the blade firm.

Thunk.

The dagger hits the second ring from the outside. Ignis is too far away from hitting the center but that's what practice is for.]

Once you get the feeling, it will go smoother and easier.

Muscle memory, right? I think I can still 'feel' the motion I had goin'.

[He picked up another and resumed his stance. Arm extended, arm raised, and then he gave it another whip. This knife was more confident, striking the target's outskirts, but sinking far more deeply into the material.]

[Ignis steps aside to let the guy try hitting the target. He was getting better with each strike. For a guy that doesn't look like he could do good well in hiding in the shadows and subtlety, he's pretty good at this.]

You're doing good.

[Especially for a guy that has no clue what he's doing.]

Am I? I mean, I'm not hitting the center...

[Ninjas should hit the center and nowhere else. But he was trying his best, even if some knives bounced off while others embedded against the wood.]

[Now that makes Ignis chuckle.]

Do you think you would become a master only after a few tosses? No one can learn a skill to perfection overnight. [Or, in this case, ten minutes.] We don't even learn how to walk in only a day.

But if you keep practicing, you will get better at it. That goes for everything you do in life.

...Huh. Yeah, that's true. I still get dye on my hands and I got marks in my fingers from pokin' myself with all the needles in the middle of a stitch, but that never really bothered me.

I guess all the 'ninja' stuff got to my head. Anyway, I'm Kanji.

You don't pay attention to those details because you do them daily. New things get people nervous.

Ignis. Pleased to meet you, Kanji.

Are you looking to apply for the guild as well?

I might. Ninjas are pretty cool. I might put a pin, or a... a knife in it for now.

Yeah, I'll think about it and be a tank for a while. You?

I will stick with this profession. It is something I am most familiar with from back home.

Ah, not the disappearing acts. Just the knowledge about daggers and knives.

Yeah, stick with what you know, right? Especially if there are monsters and stuff that can pop up everywhere.

S'it weird that I'm way beyond ready for all that stuff? Goin' to school and goin' home afterward every day gets boring when ya don't get to do cool stuff like fight monsters anymore.

Beyond ready? People are usually afraid of confronting beasts that can tear them apart in seconds.

[Can boredom really make people want to fight monsters?]

Well, I mean, I spent a whole year doin' it. I kinda got used to it.

...You fought beasts before?

[This guy looks like a high schooler. Ignis can't help but be impressed.]

Yeah. Beats joining a club. Though, somethin' tells me a place like this'd be the only one that'd have a Monster-Busting Club.

...Uh, do- do they...?

[...a Monster-Busting Club?]

I... am not sure. Perhaps you should ask about it. Although, I think they would prefer you take up the job or some kind of employment.

Oh. Yeah, that makes sense. I can mend clothing or make clothing, so... I'm sure adventurers get their shit all torn up on a regular basis.

So that's where I'd come in!

Sewing is an amazing skill to have.

[Says the guy who does all the chores from cleaning to cooking and sewing. Well, he can't make clothes but he can repair them.]

It will save you a lot of money.

Right?! People don't think about this stuff, just throw things away and then they go buy new pants or somethin'. Fifty yen nets ya some thread and needles are nothin', and your pants just got another six months on their life!

Or maybe that's my parents talking. They were weird.

They weren't weird. They were proficient in what they were doing and knew how to make use the most from the clothes.

Unfortunately, skills like sewing and repairing are easily pushed into the second plan because people like easy and quick solutions.

Heh... no, that's okay. They were weird, but I love 'em. Wouldn't trade 'em for anybody.

[But enough of that.]

Yeah, I get that. Yet ya get Gourmand, and all that stuff about eating monsters. Where's my asterisk for kickin' ass with needles?

Hmm...

[Ignis looks thoughtful for a moment.]

Perhaps you could offer your sewing services in return for payment? It is a strange world, this place, and people might need help. Not everyone knows to sew, as I mentioned. Also, you will make a profit to sustain yourself here.
