What: Ganeshan, the resident Job Expert, will be taking the new arrivals around the the various Guilds so they can collect their chosen Job Asterisks as noted in their applications.

Enter the Master

[Each new arrival's iMog buzzes with a message instructing them to gather for a worldwide adventure to obtain the power of Vaikuntha. If they follow the invitation's instructions, they will arrive at outside of the airship hanger on the morning of the 15th, with their meager belongings packed.

An Enterprise-Class airship, the Ragnarok, hovers outside of the Curti Center. There is a flash of light on the top of the ship.]

"WELCOME!"

[A figure, minuscule at this distance, launches itself off of the ship and hurtles toward the ground. As he draws closer to the ground, he starts to flip, landing with a flourish. An armored figure, sans helm, turns his toothy Zora grin to the crowd. With a shimmer, his armor transforms into a white mage's robe, and he sends a rush of wind through the crowd for dramatic effect.]

"I AM GANESHAN, THE JOB MASTER! GYA HA HA HA! TODAY, YOUR LIVES WILL CHANGE FOREVER."

[Ganeshan shimmers again, ruthlessly abusing the Chemist's Modifier skill to once again shift Job Classes so he can lower the airship's loading dock with a wave of his hand.]

"I BELIEVE THAT EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU HAS THE ABILITY TO MASTER THE JOB CLASSES. SOME OF YOU MAY MASTER MANY, OTHERS WILL PURSUE THE PERFECT MASTERY OF JUST ONE. BUT EITHER WAY, YOU'LL BE INCREDIBLE!"

[Ganeshan gives everyone a big thumbs-up. The out-worlders who are not scared off by this booming speech can feel free to enter the airship and prepare for their ride around the world. Hopefully some of the Curti Center's newest hires can serve as non-crazy less exuberant tour guides for the new arrivals.]

Around the World

[The Ragnarok will be stopping at every major city in Vaikuntha, with the exception of those cut off by the Imperial border closing. Characters can create top levels to respond to the Guild prompts and explore the cities themselves as the ship makes its stops. Each Guild provides information sessions, free food and trinkets for potential applicants, and once you're ready to receive your Asterisk, all you have to do is take some introductory lessons and fill out forms. Characters can receive up to two asterisks. Time to get to know your new world!

[Reno smirked. He was amused... but one look told him the kid was dead serious. It wasn't unreasonable, he supposed; he started getting into his own trouble at a young age, and he was damn good at it.]

Well then. I guess we'll be doing this together.

[pishirogane]

Your assistance isn't necessary.

[Turning away, she walked to another spot to look at.]

[shinra_dog]

[Reno chuckled.] Wow. Harsh.

An' here I thought two experienced investigators would get things done faster.

[It wasn't like her assistance was needed, either. But Reno was curious what the young detective could actually do. In the meantime, he busied himself with listening -- getting a feel for the area, where other officers might be, and most importantly? Eavesdropping if he could.]

[pishirogane]

... They're not going to work anywhere within our proximity. They know we're outsiders.

[She's been trying to overhear all day. Also, he hadn't really given her a reason to cooperate with him.]

[shinra_dog]

See, there's yer first mistake, yo.

[Reno held up a finger, as if to say lesson number one.]

It ain't about our proximity to them. It's about their proximity to us.

[He moved his finger over his lips. Quiet.]

If we know where they are, we can avoid 'em -- get past 'em -- and stay away from them. Obviously they ain't gonna talk out by the perimeter. The good shit's in deep, at the heart a' the scene.

We find a hole in the line.

... Excuse me? A mistake?

[She looks at him with narrowed eyes.]

I've already been there.

There's other issues with going to the crime scene besides the officers posted around. They've had to make sure monsters don't damage the crime scene... and they'll remain active for their benefit and ours since we're only received our Asterisks.

I've fought monsters without an Asterisk, thanks much.

[Maybe it was a bit of bravado on this world, but in general it wasn't a lie.]

As long as they stay distracted with each other... [Was he seriously suggesting purposely orchestrating that? Potentially using people as bait? .... Yes.]

But if you'd rather come back more prepared... Dawn would be my best guess for the time.

And? Have you encountered any here yet to be sure you can handle yourself the same?

[She shook her head.]

I'm not going to permit you to do that. [The ice in her tone was not letting up.]

... If you want to make that attempt.

[Reno sighed.]

You are no fun. Have you investigated how deep the stick up yer ass goes?

[Reno could be a stickler for some things... But there were some rules that just seemed more like suggestions to him.]

[pishirogane]

Because I haven't heard that before.

Perhaps if you'd approach me at first considering I wasn't just some inquisitive kid around a murder scene, I wouldn't respond so hostility. This isn't a game for everyone in this world...

[shinra_dog]

[Reno's face, once playful and sarcastic, immediately darkened.]

I ain't playin'. There was a massacre here. An' if you want people to stop treatin' you like a child, you can knock off bein' petulant an' cooperate with others.

Don't hafta' be me. But you ain't doin' this by yourself. No one could. It's too big. An' if yer still gonna stubbornly try, then you're just an inquisitive kid.

[pishirogane]

It's not about being unwilling to cooperate. Again, how did you decide to approach me?

[shinra_dog]

[Reno walked toward Naoto slowly.]

I asked if you had been at the Ninja Guild.

I asked what a nice kid like you was doin' around here.

[Yeah, he said it.]

And -- if you recall -- I was gonna work with you anyway. And I don't tolerate idiots, so --

[He leaned over to get a good look at her face.]

So if this is about yer age or whatever...? Yer mistaken. Shit, when I was yer age... [On second thought, maybe he shouldn't.]

[pishirogane]

Similarly, I don't like working with idiots who walk over and attempt to tell me what I should do when I've already considered it.

[She doesn't even move when he leaned in. Instead, just glaring back with venom like before.]

The monsters? The patrols? Yeah, yer doin' a fine job of considerin' it.

[Reno shook his head.]

Anythin' worth doin' carries risk. No matter how much you consider stuff, that ain't gonna change.

[And as far as Reno was concerned, this kid was limiting themself by refusing to consider the dirtier options. Was it "nice" to pit guards and monsters against each other? Probably not. Were the cops going to fight them anyway? Yes. And they were probably better equipped to do so than the newcomers. Reno saw no problem with helping things along in that direction.]

[pishirogane]

Regularly taking action as I did in the past was frowned upon. Good to know someone encouraged similar actions that almost got me murdered before, but details...

[She continued to go on about investigating where she was because frankly, she was done talking to this guy.]

[shinra_dog]

Wait, what?

[You can't just drop a bomb like that and then walk away! Reno sputtered for a moment, then blurted out:]

If someone tried to get you killed for your investigating, you were probably doin' something right!

[He realized belatedly that probably still sounded terrible. Oops.]

It was more complicated than that... and everything ended up going according to plan.

[She took out her iMog to make some notes.]

No one else had been planning on taking the risk so I did.

If it all went according to plan anyway, sounds like there's no real problem.

[Reno started looking around, scuffing his boots against the ground, and picking up small rocks to pocket.]

You almost got me there, like you needed to be rescued or something.

[pishirogane]

... I mean, I didn't say that needing to be rescued had been avoided.

[shinra_dog]

Ah. So you did have help.

[He tossed one of the stones he'd found and caught it mid-air before depositing it in his pocket.]

Sounds like you weren't the only one willing to take a risk -- someone else took a risk for you. And it all worked out in the end, didn't it?

[pishirogane]

I had to trust them to take the risk. However, they gave me a reason to trust them.

[Meanwhile, he still hadn't.]

And... before them? No risks?

I have a hard time believing that.

[He still didn't care if she trusted him or not. Now he was just curious about just what kind of process she had.]

[pishirogane]

Before them, no one competent to work with. They didn't like 'kids' on site.

[Reno chuckled again and shook his head.]
