Everyone was on edge on the airship, it was obvious. It just seemed like the world feel apart so fast... Should that be possible in only a few days? He doesn't know. He never even thought dealing with their villain back home would get to these kind of stakes...
"I don't either. And trying to force the same thoughts on others..."
They were gone now.

"I always figured we'd eventually figure out a way to go home." She'd imagined at least half a dozen different scenarios for saying goodbye to this world. Not surprisingly, this had never been one of them.
"This is usually the part where I'd tell you not to give up hope, but I feel like it's a little late for that..."
It wasn't like she could just transform into Ladybug and go off to fight Bahamut. And even if she could, there was no telling how effective she'd be.
no subject
"... It might be a little late for here, but... she's threatening our worlds too, right?"
Besides that, there was still some of this world that could be protected... right?
no subject
"It seems like she's threatening every world." Which, honestly, is a terrifying thought. Not even Papillon had been that bad.
"There has to be something we can do." Maybe it's wishful thinking, or maybe it's just pure stubbornness, but Marinette isn't quite ready to throw in the towel just yet.
no subject
Running a hand through his head, he sat there, thinking. If they're about to fight for their lives and world, he sighs. "... Marinette, can I... is it okay if I told you something? In case something goes wrong..."
no subject
She's not sure what else to say, though. She likes to think she's pretty good at giving rallying speeches. But this is different, and she can't seem to find the words.
"You can tell me anything, Adrien." In the past, that question probably would have terrified her. And she's not not afraid now, but she's sure whatever it is must be pretty important.
And even if it's just something he wants to say because he's afraid, she wants to listen because Adrien is important to her.
no subject
Staring at her, nodding, he does seem a little hesitant. He looked down, considering for another few seconds before starting up again. "If... anything happens to me, I want you to take my ring. You'll take my ring, take it back to Paris, and give it to Ladybug. Only give it to Ladybug."
no subject
That's not even the important thing right now, and she focuses her attention on the blonde. He's quiet at first, and she's beginning to wonder if he's changed his mind by the time he speaks up.
His words are met with confusion. Her eyes dart between his face and his ring a few times while she tries to make sense of what he's saying. She wants to insist that nothing's going to happen to him, but she can't even give him that, because she doesn't know that for sure.
And that hurts.
"I can't do that."
Because Ladybug's not in Paris. Except he doesn't know that yet. She hasn't even stopped to consider why he'd want her to give Ladybug a ring, either.
no subject
"Please, Marinette. This ring can't go to anyone that's not from our world. It has to be taken back by any means, otherwise..."
He trailed, swallowing, and glanced to the side.
... Well, not actually to the side. He was looking down, but maybe more at his collar?
"..."
no subject
His response only confirmed that fact.
"I understand that. What I meant was... I can't give it to her in Paris." She probably should've just started with that, but it was too late to take the words back.
"She's not in Paris. She's been here for almost a year."
no subject
How could she have been here and not attempted to reach him at all?
... Though, if he thought about it, if she had been here for over a year, but Marinette was the only one from his world...
"... Geez! Forget it, the wait is killing me and I'm immortal!" groans a small voice, a black blob of a cat slinking from his shirt collar. Adrien leers at him, "Plagg...!"
Here it is, after 1000 years~
Mostly, though, she's not even sure why Adrien seems so annoyed by that knowledge. Sure, he's pretty fond of Ladybug, but to be downright irritated? Maybe he's just annoyed that he hasn't seen her? Oops.
Before she can say anything else, though, there's another voice and she just stands there gaping at Plagg's appearance.
"Wh-"
"Really, Plagg? You're just gonna pop out like that? Rude~"
By this point, Marinette's eyes are wide and she's just... staring between Adrien, Plagg and Tikki.
Maybe if she pinches herself...
no subject
The frustration and anger that Adrien momentarily has pointed at Plagg just popping out like that drains out of him and his jaw falls slightly slack. Wide eyed, he stares at Tikki, then looks at Marinette, shoots a look at Plagg... and then looks back at Tikki then Marinette again.
... Earrings. Black studs.
"... M-M'lady?"
no subject
Marinette, on the other hand, is trying to process everything that's happened in the last five minutes. On the other hand, it seems like Adrien is right there with her... so she can't really feel too ridiculous.
She opens her mouth to say something and promptly closes it again. The action repeats itself a couple of times before she finally settles on what she wants to say.
Only for that thought to go right out the window as soon as Adrien speaks up.
"Ah... Y-yea. It's me!"
Tikki at least has the grace to wait a full five seconds before laughing out loud.
no subject
Adrien's glad he's not the only one trying to comprehend this new revelation right before they head into this fight.
Tikki's laugh manages to make him snap out of whatever mental dilemma he now had and he just has to hug Marinette.
"You're here! ... Wait." He pulls back, panicking. "Wait! You're here too! Who's protecting Paris??"
no subject
Is this a dream? It doesn't really feel like one, and she's not sure why she'd be dreaming about this particular scenario.
The fact that Tikki is laughing is good thing though, right? Usually she does that thing with her face when she's upset...
It's Adrien that shatters whatever train of thought she was about to zoom off on, and she realizes with a start that he's hugging her. There's little time to react before he's pulling away again, but she does manage to reciprocate the gesture at least.
"I am! And I don't know... It's something I've been wondering since I found out Chat was here." Which is Adrien, but she didn't know that at the time!
"I'm sure it's fine!"
no subject
Come on; he has bore witness to Marinette's stuttering too, good golly.
It felt nice to get the hug back, but goodness, he's rubbing his hair frantically.
"Gah...! This isn't good!" But, if he stops to think about it. "Maybe... maybe when he akumatizes someone and sees that we don't appear, he gives up? Or what if we go back and he's taken over Paris??"
no subject
Most people have born witness to Marinette's stuttering, after all.
The hug is nice, though she kind of wishes it was happening under better circumstances.
When he speaks up again, Marinette just stares at him. It's not as though she hasn't been wondering the same thing, but they really need to stay calm. Or... as calm as they can be with things the way they are.
"Adrien, it's okay. Or it's going to be okay! Surely he won't keep akumatizing people when he realizes we're not there." Right? "We'll figure it out."
no subject
This was Marinette. She was his Lady, but also his Princess. And now that he thought about it... haha, Bugniette was a fairly accurate nickname. Wait, not the time...
"... A-Anyway, we can only hope, right? I mean, whatever he gets out of our Miraculous, he can't get from the others?"
So Rena Rogue, Carapace, and Queen B could handle it?
no subject
Fortunately, the awkward moment passes quickly enough and then they're back to the conversation.
"That's what I was thinking!" She hasn't the faintest idea of why he even wants their Miraculous, but she wants to believe that the man will at least be decent enough to leave people alone when he realizes his actions are pointless.
"What do you think he wants them for, anyway?"
no subject
He went home for a brief period, but he doesn't know if she did. He thinks someone would've told him or he would've heard somehow. It seems to him - whatever point he's now from - that she knew, but Marinette before him did not.
"... Honestly, no idea. I just know he needs them both."
no subject
But she's trying to stay positive about all of this!
"I'm sure we'll figure it out." She's not sure how just yet, but... there's still time to work on that. Right?
no subject
Though, he's not so sure he would. It seemed like everyone around him back home knew something, but... they didn't say anything. Why couldn't he be told anything? If he was told why, he would do better, but even that was silence.
But he can put on a nervous smile really well.
"... We just have to get home first."
no subject
It's kind of their thing; figuring out how to side-step what would normally be less-than-favorable odds. This is... kind of like that. Maybe?
Or maybe if she believes it hard enough, that'll help. Either way, she's not going to just give up.
The smile she gives him is no less nervous.
"Yea... and before that, we have to win." Which... might be easier said than done.
