Player Plot: The Dream Width Awakens

Who: Finn and everyone who signed up!
When: Dec. 9-15
Where: The Dream Width
What: Finn and crew are going into the Dream Width
Warnings/Notes: OOC Info

After getting clearance, spreading the word, and gathering everyone together, Finn's still a little uneasy about this idea. But if there's any way out-...

Wedge (with BB-8's help, whether he appreciates it or not) helms the first ship to set off early in the morning on the 9th. Approaching the Dream Width and going through seems no different from usual, only without the new arrivals. There are more than likely to be memories cropping up, but the heroes are hopefully more or less prepared. After all, this shouldn't be anything new, right?

Time to settle in for a long trip.

The Long Wait

[Frisk.exe snorts, leaning their chair back and sticking their feet on the table in a haphazard show of indifference. They should also definitely be working on homework, but the closest they've gotten is a half-filled worksheet currently positioned under their foot and being staunchly ignored.]

"Cruel. Freelancers deserve better than that."

Frisk.bin shoots a glare at Frisk.exe, and they stick out their tongue. "And I don't suppose you have any advice on this horrible mangling of numbers? It's math! Why would they put letters in there! It makes no sense! None!" They raise their arms up, seemingly in defeat.
waningsigns: (Welp)

[personal profile] waningsigns 2018-12-10 08:02 pm (UTC)(link)
[Frisk.exe gives them a mighty shrug.]

"Do I look like I do? If I knew things, I wouldn't be slacking."

[They lean back further, and to no one's surprise the chair tips over. They catch themself with levitation, and start lounging casually in the air instead.]

"Why do they even teach math? We're not gonna be rocket scientists."
sassafrisk: <user name=e8luhs site=tumblr.com> (Pardon?)

[personal profile] sassafrisk 2018-12-11 03:23 pm (UTC)(link)
"So people who wasted their bachelor's on math but didn't go the extra mile can feel good about themselves and lord their smartypantsness over kids like us," Frisk says, finally prying their face off the table and giving an exaggerated sigh. Ugh, teachers. "Didn't you, like, loop through the Underground... how many times, again? And your Toriel was the teachy type, right? C'mon, you gotta be smarter than me at stuff like this. Throw me a lifeline."
waningsigns: (Welp)

[personal profile] waningsigns 2018-12-11 04:37 pm (UTC)(link)
"Bold to assume I've kept count of anything ever."

[Frisk.bin's got a point, though— they have stayed with Toriel for extended periods, and been subjected to all manner of accursed education as a result. And so, reluctantly, they slouch through the air to peer over Frisk.bin's shoulder.]

"...Well, there's certainly a few numbers there."

smash cut to after worksheet? i doubt either of us wants to redo eighth-grade math

[personal profile] sassafrisk 2018-12-11 09:34 pm (UTC)(link)
"That is indeed a quantity of numbers ranging between zero and infinity," Frisk.bin fires back, smirking. It was getting rarer and rarer that they got an opportunity to just... hang with their counterpart. Kind of to be expected with the apocalypse on the horizon, but still. They missed this kind of thing. "Alright, so here we got a bunch of weird hokey letters stuff..."
waningsigns: (Angry/Disgusted)

bold of you to assume i ever did eighth-grade math in the first place

[personal profile] waningsigns 2018-12-11 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)
[They work through the problems together, slowly but steadily figuring out how any of this nonsense works— they were mostly joking when they said they never count anything, but the numbers here just won't come easily to Frisk.exe. And so it's with a mix of triumph and hatred that they scribble in the final answer on their own worksheet and toss it into the air, letting it flutter to the ground while they slump back in their chair.]

"Numbers. My immortal enemy. I have bested you once more."
sassafrisk: <user name=e8luhs site=tumblr.com> (Annoyed)

[personal profile] sassafrisk 2018-12-12 06:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Meanwhile, Frisk.bin is a surprisingly fast worker once they actually understand what the numbers are asking of them. It's not their-- well, it's totally their fault for not paying attention in class, actually, they were big enough to admit that.

They groan and flop over dramatically. "I'm half-convinced that the teachers are Bahamut cultists. That would explain why they spend so much energy on torturing Vaikuntha's two best heroes down with all of this nonsense."
waningsigns: (Mischievous)

[personal profile] waningsigns 2018-12-12 06:50 pm (UTC)(link)
[Frisk.exe laughs quietly, sliding further down their chair until they're barely on it at all.]

"First thing we do once we're back, strike up an investigation. Expose them. Justice for Frisk."
sassafrisk: <user name=e8luhs site=tumblr.com> (Laughing)

[personal profile] sassafrisk 2018-12-12 07:03 pm (UTC)(link)
"I think one of Kuja's friends is a PI. I think we definitely have enough gil to hire him. Maybe we can convince him to sell the rights to the investigation's deets and publish it as a noir novel?" Frisk.exe suggests, snickering as they continue to flop around. It must be quite a sight to any onlookers.
waningsigns: (Welp)

[personal profile] waningsigns 2018-12-12 07:40 pm (UTC)(link)
"Good idea. Always wanted to be in a book."

[They finish sliding off the chair, falling slowly to the floor to do their best impression of a slime mold. They begin to inch underneath the table.]

"D'you think Chara would've helped too?"
sassafrisk: <user name=e8luhs site=tumblr.com> (Can't Believe You)

[personal profile] sassafrisk 2018-12-13 05:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Frisk.bin wasn't going to lose to Frisk.exe in a lazy flop-off. They slowly contort themself into what looks like an extremely uncomfortable position, their legs pointing straight up and leaning against the chair. They're silent for a moment when Frisk.bin asks their question, expression overcast. "...yeah, probably. They were always smarter that both of us combined."
waningsigns: (Distant)

[personal profile] waningsigns 2018-12-14 10:36 pm (UTC)(link)
[They slip all the way under the table, becoming nothing more than a voice echoing forth from the darkness. For a long moment, they stay silent as well.]

"...Wish I could still reset. Didn't get to hang out with them enough."
sassafrisk: <user name=e8luhs site=tumblr.com> (Can't Believe You)

[personal profile] sassafrisk 2018-12-15 01:45 am (UTC)(link)
Frisk.bin slips under the table with Frisk.exe, staring up at the gum-covered bottom of the piece of furniture. It was like a really gross night sky. Kinda.

"...you know, me and Chara actually talked about resetting a lot. Like. It's implications and stuff." They sigh, shifting a bit. "And... well, this is just my take on the matter, hashtag discourse and all that, but. If you go back and try to fix minor mistakes like that, things that are completely out of your control... you're going to end up stuck in the past. Literally. Because you'll never stop chasing that next tiny, incremental improvement despite having something pretty good right in front of you."
waningsigns: (Distant)

[personal profile] waningsigns 2018-12-15 03:08 am (UTC)(link)
[Frisk.exe curls up on their side, hugging their legs to their chest as they stare into the corner. They huff.]

"Minor mistakes. 's not that straightforward."
sassafrisk: <user name=e8luhs site=tumblr.com> (Pardon?)

[personal profile] sassafrisk 2018-12-15 10:25 pm (UTC)(link)
"I know, I know! But..." Frisk.bin grasps at the darkness, trying to illustrate their point. They did not have the philosophy degree necessary for this debate, but what the hell. "Let's say... you end up doing something that nine out of ten people are happy with. But the tenth isn't. It's fine to go back a few times to find the perfect solution. However, if you keep on doing that indefinitely... it's kinda unfair to the first nine people, isn't it? Especially if you end up hurting them in the process of helping the tenth. Even if you reset over that timeline... that still happened. That decision's gonna weigh on you."
waningsigns: (Distant)

[personal profile] waningsigns 2018-12-17 05:40 pm (UTC)(link)
[Frisk.exe doesn't reply for a long moment, just keeps staring at the wall. Then, slowly, they roll over to give Frisk.bin a sort of... defeated look.]

"Well, I know that now. Just... is it fair, if one person sets everyone free, but they can't even enjoy it like everyone else?"
sassafrisk: <user name=e8luhs site=tumblr.com> (Can't Believe You)

[personal profile] sassafrisk 2018-12-17 06:21 pm (UTC)(link)
"Is it fair to the person that made that sacrifice to force them to make it again and again with no real benefit to the people they're trying to help?" Frisk.bin counters, then sighs, rolling over to face their counterpart. They really shouldn't have gone that far. "...sorry. I've just... been thinking about that a lot lately. With... with what happened out there. What I saw."
