Player Plot: Let's Explore Mad'ni Shrine!
Who: Everyone who signed up!
When: Around November 3-6ish
Where: The Mad'ni Shrine
What: Searching for the lost ruins beneath the Shrine!
Warnings/Notes: It's another dreaded water level.
Although the flight provided by Curti Center takes them as close as they possibly can, the Heroes still have to take a brief walk through the woods to reach their destination. It remains to be seen whether the trip will be worth it. After all, their hope of finding a Legendary Eidolon, or even just clues pointing to one, is based on little more than guesswork.
But, with the time ticking down towards the end of the world, they don't have the luxury of ignoring a lead, no matter how vague. A shot in the dark might be what saves them all in the long run.

Unfortunately for Azusa, she decided to keep too much distance between herself and Medusa. Before she can shout some words of encouragement, she cries out instead, finding no ground beneath her next step.
"Ah!"
She tries to pull back, but it's too late. Using her magic, she shields her cards from getting wet, but there's no helping her. They hover around her and then above her, coated in a thin layer of light-purple magic.
"Why me—I'm sorry everyone—"
Splash! She leans forward and falls right into the deeper water surrounding the edges of the room. Her cards float where she fell.
Azusa will surface on her next turn.

Dylas starts casting his magic again, opening with his darkness spell, Dark Savior. It only does medium-level darkness magic, but with his job maxed he's hoping it will do more than leave a little mark. He turns over his shoulder to make sure his 'hired' help is paying attention, but the sword dancer has instead turned his attention towards the furry rabbit thing making a lot of noise.
That doesn't like it's going to end well.
"No! Not that one," he yells, but it's too late. The Sword Dancer runs towards Klonoa (the seventh reply after Dylas) and starts to dance around him, fully intending to inflict the Zombie status on the Cat-Rabbit with Danse Macabre. But the Sword Dancer doesn't attack—once he's done casting, he races back to his summoner's side.

...Why is there a dancing skeleton next to him?
He chokes, feeling a coldness in his chest that slowly spreads out over his entire body. He wavers on the floor, the world spinning as the creeping darkness overcomes him. Twirling around on the spot one last time, Klonoa falls to the ground, lifeless and dead as a doornail.
...before slowly rising up, arms stretched forwards as his sunken, sallow eyes survey the battlefield, ears lifted partially in the air and kinked as if tensed aloft by some sort of unnatural force. "Graaao..."

"You imbecile! Send it back!" She reaches out a hand, instinctively going to cast Esuna...but of course, she can't.

"Thanks, guys!"
Shit. There went Azusa. Somebody had to get her, but...!! He took a breath and turned his back on the group. Safest that way. Rather than call a threat to the Medusa, the sound that came from him was a booming roar, more animal than human. What did his Asterisk do best? Go Berserk.
Eyes gleaming a malicious gold, he raced forward, hands twisting the handle of the hammer toward its pointed end. If anyone could catch the license plate on that warhammer-shaped truck that was hurtling for the Medusa's primary head, that'd be just lovely.

Meanwhile, with recoveries soundly seen to, she hurried to help retrieve Azusa.

All attacks on Medusa will have an increased chance of dealing critical damage for the next turn.
The enemy is not entirely helpless, however. Though the Medusa itself can't attack, the snakes sprouting from its head are still moving just fine and angrily Bite at the ones they perceive as the most immediate threats: Kanji and Adrien. Luckily the poison doesn't take and Kanji's injury is almost immediately healed by the Regen effect, but one snake's sharp fangs sink painfully into Adrien's sword arm, dealing medium damage.
The Medusa is preparing to stand up...

As Frisk reaches the apex of their arc towards the medusa, their hands frantically twist and turn into complicated gestures, and in a belch of brimstone a red Hellfrog manifests beneath them as a ridiculous airborne steed. "Yee-HAW!" Frisk whoops as it belches severe fire damage at the medusa, disappearing just before Frisk hits the ground rolling behind the monster.

Seeing Ashelia get a quick combo in, Adrien's back at Frisk's shout and avoids the flames of the Hellfrog summon. Still - still - he's not out of the fight yet. And as the fires fall around and he ignores his bite wound, he holds his sword's grip. While the enemy's down, he'll take advantage too. He hasn't really done this attack before, but was this was a good enough time.
Back into the battle he charges, storing power until he's close enough, and then pulls, making to crossing slashes as he strikes with Midare Setsugekka. "Stay down!"
no subject
Not that he has long to worry about that anyway. As the revivifying energies flow through his body, he takes a deep breath in again and exhales, his ears draping back down loosely and the rest of him losing its stiffness. "Phew.. Thanks, we're not done here yet!"

yikes i need to tally EXP
People shouldn't be summoning things that didn't listen, tsk. Stupid.
Now was the time to take advantage of the medusa's vulnerability, though. The Gourmand in him tempted him to bite the thing, though he didn't know where it had been. Snow settled for another Dualcast of Cyanure and Tenebres, hoping the poison effect would stick. He'd prefer to use Foudre, but he wasn't sure if it would spread to everyone else with the room as wet as it was.

Of course, that would be a thought in Kanji's head if he currently wasn't wailing on the Medusa with the business end of that hammer like the creature was steak waiting to be tenderized.

There was enough support here, no need to step on any toes... and she really wanted to put the hurt on a thing or two. She had her damage reduced, but there were a few extra things she could do to help turn things on their head a bit. But first, the lovely idol...!
She lowered into the water to fetch her.

"I'm sorry," she starts, shivering from the cold. "I thought it would be safest if I stayed close to the walls," but the room had clearly not been designed with Azusa's best interests in mind. Once she's pulled out of the water, she' able to collect her cards with a wave of her hand, but she's too cold and soaked to do anything else with her turn.
Aside from apologize profusely to Madhuri. Hopefully, Kanji is still making use of her buffs.

"Shit. Well, maybe it's worked everything out by now. It's facing the right way this time."
The Sword Dancer, with Ashelia hopefully shoved off to the side, now readies its blades and faces the Medusa, finally ready to attack their true opponent on its next turn—if the medusa even lives that long.
He readies his own attack next, using Earth Grave to disrupt the ground beneath the Medusa's feet and deliver medium earth damage as spikes of earth shoot upward after the quake.

Just a few strong sprinted strides and he's in range; dropping the short katana to a medium-level range and going for a three-strike attack before stepping back and bringing the sword back around - this time in a more generic position, ready to attack or defend, as needed.

That necromancer is in for it.

Well, regardless, he uses the opportunity to launch a volley of magic bones- not blue, this time, but a proper magical attack! While he hasn't quite gained enough EXP to use all the fancy bells and whistles, it should at least provide some extra damage to the pesky, petrifying pest.

With an ear-rending scream, the Medusa finally lurches off of the ground. Even Dylas' earth magic isn't enough to topple it a second time. Enraged at being so grievously wounded so quickly, the Medusa lashes out with a cast of Group Waterga, dealing severe damage to the entire party. The waves of magical water smash into them with the force of a stormy sea, leaving several Heroes in a critical condition.

Leaving a rather sad, drenched tiefling with her hair hanging well past her backside, its signature end curl gone. With a scowl, she spit water to the side and sighed.
"...Plan." But she looked back and saw ruin, many scrambling to right themselves while others seemed to be struggling. Throwing her wet hair back and straightening her hat, she pulled her guitar to her front.
"Okay. Plan B." Spellblade: Divine. She tapped her throat and straightened up, sweeping her fingers across the strings. She gave her tail a little wiggle, loosening the tambourine cymbals nestled in her bow.
"Up you get, my darlings~" With cure magic imbued in her voice, the Spellbinder began to move her body, all hips and tail as she began to sing, guitar and cymbals accompanying as she would apply a gradual recovery effect per turn. However, Madhuri wasn't applying the effect to herself... Oh no. She wanted to try something out.
As for the Medusa? Oh, should it survive her healing friends to the end of her tune, she had a gift... but the beast would just have to wait until then.

He sneezed, clearing the water from his mouth and nose, and he'd had enough. All Berserkers had to fight to manage that rage that bubbled in their minds, but sometimes you just had to give in and tell that beast, 'Yes. Just do what you need to do'.
They called it "Beast Release." He lowered his center of gravity, then lunged. But rather than continuing to beat away at the Medusa like a crazed maniac, there was precision in the motion. He chose the lower part of the belly and swung, spike first, and tore up and away.
Fell Cleave always felt so damn good.
