Event || A History of Light and Darkness
Who: Brave Explorers and/or Those Poor Souls Being Dragged Along by Friends
When: Oct 15-30th
Where: Thilmit Border Post, inside the Old Heranean Doll Museum
What: The Heroes of Light received a strange letter, and are now being asked to investigate the strange occurrences at the old doll museum.
Warnings/Notes: OOC Post Warnings for Spookiness, Creepy Dolls. Post toplevels for each group. Please post warnings as needed for memory fragments and exploration. For random numbers, use the dice functions on Plurk or Discord.
The Old Heranean Doll Museum is a small building, but somehow the dark, dusty windows and poorly maintained roof give it a menacing feel as you approach. The sign says, "OPEN"...although, as you approached, you think it might have been turned to "CLOSED".
The door creaks as it swings open, though there is no one from the museum to greet you as you enter. A cold breeze blows in behind you, sapping any lingering warmth in the room. The building is dark, and cobwebs are starting to form in the corners of the lobby and on the velvet rope stanchions that guide the flow of traffic in and out. Out of a shadowy corner, a large centipede skitters across the floor and into a crack low on the wall.
At the reception desk, one of the antique dolls sits, unmoving, unblinking. That goes without saying. Its eyes do not follow you as you enter.... The hairs prickling up on the back of your neck are just coincidence, that's all.
There is another doll perched on the wooden brochure display stand near the door. It's strange that the curator leaves the display pieces out where visitors can touch them....
As you enter, you hear something whistling through the air toward you a moment before it makes a impact. A tiny pebble, too small to do any damage other than a brief stinging. During this moment of distraction, the door slams and locks.
When you look at the spots where the dolls were perched a moment ago, there is now just empty space. There is movement in the shadows, and the nearly imperceptible sound of tiny shapes creeping around.
As you move past the lobby into the exhibits, a sign above the entryway declares:
Welcome to the Old Heranean Doll Museum. We hope you enjoy our historic Heroes of Light displays.

Outside the Entrance
“Mari, I am not here to look for Kupo nuts. If you don't want to come, you can keep watch outside.” She mumbles something in response, ears back. Fine. But even if he doesn’t accept all her excellent advice, at least she convinced him not to go in alone.
Orcelito meets his teammates with a welcoming nod, though his usual smile is absent. It was a last minute request (from Mari) to call for more experienced heroes. While nervous, he doesn’t let it show; these are his teammates, after all. He can’t afford to hesitate. His manner is cordial, if more serious than normal.
“Thank you for responding to my request on short notice. I'm Orcelito Noctircus, and this is Marigold.”
He doesn't dwell on formalities, moving on swiftly with his plan. “I haven’t seen any causes for concern, but I’m told the monsters are inside. If we are engaged, I would prefer not to damage the interior more than necessary.” He wishes he could give them more intel. “My goal is to investigate and, if we can, find out what happened to the curator.”
Taking grimoire in hand, Orcelito nods towards the door. “I presume you’re both ready?”
no subject
When she arrives, she looks at the companions she's with and lowers herself enough to be level with them. With only two this time, she'd easily be able to keep her eyes on them and their moogles as well.
"Dr. Kimishima. I'd introduce you to Little Mog, but she's not going to come out of my bag that easily."
Crossing her claws, she looks at the museum with a hum. "Your intentions more or less aligns with my own as it is. Maybe we'll find the curator inside the wall too..." She shrugs casually, but then nods, affirming she's ready to proceed when they are.
no subject
It took him a moment to introduce himself, he was so focused on staring at it. No -- it wasn't Grimm's. Refocus.
"I'm Snow White."
"And I'm Apple."
Apple's pom-pom bobbed as she nodded in greeting to Marigold. She understood the dire straits of a lack of kupo nuts.
The princess shrugged. "I don't know about the curator. But I don't appreciate threats in my mail." And he was more than ready to deal with whoever dared send the letter.
no subject
The second gives him pause for another reason. Orcelito wonders if the attention towards his spellbook is from another tome user, until he catches sight of the elegant sword. He misses the glance Mari shoots at him during the introduction. (See? This Moogle understands the effects of Kupo nuts on the economy. And the other is smart enough to stay safe.)
"I don't, either." Orcelito replies to Snow White in a firm tone, though his tension is directed at another target. Or targets. "If it was only us they wanted to fight, they should not have involved the town."
no subject
"They didn't have to, but it's the fastest way to call us out. I mean, would either of you come so soon otherwise?"
She herself didn't really care about the threat or the way it could've possibly stirred up the public. Given the month and everything that had been occurring, however, it wouldn't be difficult to make people already on edge more paranoid. She lets out a breath and shakes her head before closing the distance between them and the door. "Let's not delay this any further. I have some mixtures I want to look into before work tomorrow."
no subject
But the general vibe he was getting from these two was that he was supposed to care. Ew.
He shrugged instead. "Whatever. We're here now. Let's just go."
