Nerds of a Feather Learn Together

Who: Open to everyone!
When: Consistently in the evenings of May 9th-12th
Where: Curti Center Library, a larger conference room.
What: The howling hordes of airship pilot- and engineer-wannabes gather in one poor, poor place. And other nerds could probably study there, too.
Warnings/Notes: Feel free to write your own top-levels like with Makoto's birthday.

Wholly out of the blue, a message pings into your iMog slate, through the Kali Shashidhwaja Linkshell. When you open the notification, a horrible sound plays, and the text message's contents burst onto the screen in an explosion of confetti.

So I might've raided the Curti Center's library for everything on space, airships, piloting, and magitek. I also might have conquered conference room 3A in the library for the next few evenings. Come keep me company!

Please. It's quiet and lonely and I'm scared to leave by myself.
And I have cookies! ლ(❛ω❛ლ)

For whatever reason, you decide to head on over to the Curti Center, and you're met with a large conference room, with piles of books on the table divided by a few trays of cookies, and a few dry-erase boards because chalk is for bohemians. One, clearly at Hunk's corner of the table, has a sketch of an airship with arrows and chicken-scratched notes pointing to seemingly-random areas, as well as a blue-marker doodle of a bizarre creature circled multiple times and surrounded by question marks.

Another board across the room is partially taken up by a chart titled SKILLS! and broken into three columns: PILOT, MECHANIC, SCHOLAR. Hunk's name is written beneath each, but maybe you should write your own- there's a reason you're here, after all! And resting in the marker tray are about seven pamphlets on the Vaikuntha Pilot License Examination.

Oh, and there's a moogle sitting sternly upon the lectern next to the door, munching on a kupo nut as he gestures towards the bowl next to him, with "Donations" scribbled onto a piece of paper taped to the side.

Go wild, but shhhh! You're in a library!

( Potential baby top-level ideas include "asking your study neighbor what in the world something means," bellowing "HELLO YES I AM PILOT," and "I wandered in because free cookies but I don't want to be here and can't leave without causing a scene, help." )

"Of course." He steps around and picks up the book in question, setting it easily on top of the one he'd been carrying. With both books in hand he carries it to the nearby table with a blueprint of a larger airship spread across it. It takes him less than five minutes to find what he's after. He notes it down in the iMog, and types out a fast series of notes on the flight.

The book is shut, and he leaves his stuff neatly stacked at the table when he comes back with the book. "Thanks for letting me use it." He holds it out to her with his metal hand, "I'm finished with the History of Flight in Safer Osu if you'd like me to bring that over too. They both reference each other a lot."

While he makes off with the book, she resumes reading, turning over the next page, but watching him from the corner of her eye still. From her angle, she can just make out what he's doing, but not see in great detail. Still, there's no doubt he's planning on getting a pilot license.

Eyes back to her book, next page turning, she raising her head again once he returns, acting as though she hadn't been observing. "You're welcome." She accepts the book and places it back on the table. "I would appreciate that, thank you."
spaceforged: (...well that's new.)

He nods and fetched the book, holding it out to her. “Which city are you considering working for when you have your license?” He might as well ask. They’re all working towards the same goal. It would help to know who he might be working with in the future. Early bonds make for better crews.

"Hm... It will depend on where I move after leaving the Curti Center. Safer Osu would be the first candidate naturally, but I am planning on having a roommate." So she wasn't the only one considering location. It was just a matter of wait-and-see what they agreed on.
spaceforged: (never should have left)

"And you need to be sure it's suitable for both of you." He voices out loud with a nod. "I did some checking and most cities will work with the pilots they train. Whether you pick Safer Osu at the start or not, I'll possibly be there. If I get accepted for training there. I can pass on what requirements they expect out of their cadets."

She nods, glad he understands and open to his offer. "It's one of the locations we're considering. However, I personally don't stand the cold well while my roommate would likely prefer not being around military bases."
spaceforged: (It's just in case)

[personal profile] spaceforged 2018-05-25 04:25 am (UTC)(link)
"Likely wouldn't be a good idea then. The city seems to have been built to support the base. It's more than likely every business and housing area has ties to the military." It's exactly why he picked that city. He can get a good look at least one government's military here while having a city that will put him mostly at ease.

"Undoubtedly." She wonders just which city would suit them both. It had to be somewhere tall enough, but not high from the ground. It also needed to be cheap until they had more income. "Hm... what would you recommend for someone with acrophobia?"
spaceforged: (We'll get through this.)

He gives that some thought. Shiro takes his iMog and flips it open to a map. "There's Ka’Pandol? But it is underwater. Von Oktavia is probably something you want to steer clear of. Any city with skyscrapers has a lot of businesses and government offices high up off the ground." He ticks that one off a list and traces his finger on the map.

"Sparks Golsaucia or Hisan might be a good idea to check out." He's pretty sure Hunk might be considering the later. "...I think of them all Nakagawa or Yun’Ashia might work. Both are fairly quiet as well. But if you want access to a lot of information, Arito. As an added bonus any studying you need to do you'll definitely find study groups and peers working just as hard as you are. Probably on the cheaper side since it does cater to students."
pishirogane: ([Chibi] Urr...)

[personal profile] pishirogane 2018-05-28 06:32 am (UTC)(link)
"Hm... well, I think we could still consider Ka'Pandol. He doesn't have Aquaphobia." But he had a point on Von Oktavia. Skyscrapers and government officials would be a hard pass for Kanji.

She nods along with the suggestions, having considered some of them before, but others, she hadn't lingered on too long. Nakagawa would probably feel the most like 'home', but she would like something different herself. The idea of students had her intrigued, but shaking her head. "Arito might not be good either..."
spaceforged: (Take us in slowly.)

[personal profile] spaceforged 2018-05-31 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)
"...what is it you want the most out of a home city? We can narrow things down considerably if we start there." A source to work with. Once he has that he can work backwards or forwards depending on how one place might fail to work. "Oh and I'm Shirogane Takashi. People just call me Shiro."

After seeing so many people around who look at him and see his nationality he feels compelled to introduce himself with his full name in the proper order. It doesn't make it feel less weird to form a name he hasn't said much of in over a year.
pishirogane: (... Were they streaking?)

[personal profile] pishirogane 2018-06-02 09:16 am (UTC)(link)
"... I would prefer a location close to Safer Osu that isn't too busy or too high. Again, I tend to be flexible, but my concern is more for my roommate." When always looking for places herself, she made due, but Kanji was different. He couldn't just be thrown into a city and expected to easily adapt.

Though, she blinks and gives Shiro a strange look. "... Shirogane Naoto."

She doesn't... recognize him. Odd, the last thing she anticipated was meeting someone from another world that somehow had her last name. "Pleased to make your acquaintance... Shiro-san."
