The Heroes of Light vs. The Sakura Forest (round 1)
Who: Everyone who signed up!
When: October 10
Where: The Sakura forest
What: There's supposed to be an Eidolon here! Lets go find it!
Warnings/Notes: it's October and there are supposedly mimics in here.
This morning is damp and foggy, lingering swaths of mist a testament to the rapid changes in temperature that always seem a hallmark of the fall season. The sunlight is still too new to burn it away, and the world seems hazy and lavender.
It would be beautiful, if it wasn’t so eerie. Perhaps it’s simply the morning chill, but skin prickling up to gooseflesh seems to be a common occurrence amongst the gathered crowd, and Castor herself, standing at the head and sorting people into teams, is not immune to this.
Behind her stands the southwestern edge of the Sakura forest. The fog within seems particularly dense, and as it diffuses the morning light, the forest seems almost otherworldly; a glimpse at something fey and unknowable and eternal. It’s likewise eerily quiet; even accounting for the fog smothering all but the closest noise, there are no audible signs of life from within the forest’s boundaries.
If the hair on the back of your neck is slowly raising, you’re probably not alone in that, either.
“Alright!” Castor calls, once she’s finished organizing people, “That should be the lot’ve ye! We don’t know what all’s about in there, and I’ve had word that the local wildlife has been ornery of late, so keep yer wits about ye, and stay close te your mates!
“I’ve given each of ye a handful of ribbon…” she pauses to hold up a handful of her own, a cheery red that somehow looks ominous in this atmosphere. “A colour te each team! Use ‘em to mark yer way in; I don’t want te have te go fishin’ fer lost souls when all’s said and done, and if ye find somethin’ ye’ll leave an easy way back.
“I’d advise ye sort someone te keep an eye on the Slates. Twelve willin’ they work more’n ten fulms into the wood, stay in touch best ye can over the network. And don’t hesitate te turn back if ye feel things’re goin’ poorly fer you an’ yours. I’d rather ye come back alive and emptyhanded.”
Here she pauses again, seeming to count something out on her fingers. “I think that’s the last of what I’ve got te say. Try and be back ‘fore sundown, yeah?”
[ooc: And go! I will be endeavouring to reply to each party at least ONCE daily, regardless of who’s posted in the meantime (we’ll see how it goes)!]

Case in point, she's now completely alone, and chasing the sound of her brother's voice when there's no way he can actually be here. It's just not possible for him to have shown up in this world without her knowing about it.
But it was adrenaline and instinct driving her now, and the intense need to make sure her family is safe. Which is why she seems to be growing increasingly frustrated the longer she's running. She's sure it was coming from this direction! Shouldn't she have found him by now?
"Hello? Matt?"

Wind spells do well to clear the mist in the short term, though it seems to filter back in before long; The mist here wishes to occupy this space, and no silly spells will chase it off for long. Tidus' sharp laughter cuts through the forest but it echoes amongst the trees and muddies his location. Thankfully, Chara's Earth Sense seems to sense...well, something, on the very edge of it's range. It's fuzzy and as hard to make out as anything else here, but as far as leads go, it's the best they've got.

“There,” Chara says. “Someone is over there.”
Someone. Because there’s no guarantee it’s one of the two they were looking for, though hopefully they weren’t steered wrong.

So he moves toward Chara, though just a little. He doesn't want to lose sight of Frisk. Or get too ahead of himself. Still, how can they possibly ignore it? Especially with two of them lost in the mist?
no subject
He moves forward still, readying a spell in case something goes terribly wrong. Papyrus is constantly shouting, there's no way everything in this forest doesn't already know where they are. "Tidus? Move towards us if you can hear me, you absolute buffoon!"
no subject
Yeah, right. That's stupid. He's been stupid enough. He pivots and turns back, praying he hasn't sealed his doom.
no subject
"Tidus! We're coming for you!"
It wasn't that long ago that Snow would have abandoned the Blitzer and gone on without him. Heartless, maybe, but efficient. But it also wasn't that long ago that Snow had realized he was weaker on his own, and stronger with a strong team. He didn't always like to admit it; he certainly didn't want to feel indebted to a Grimm. But the truth was, Otogi had united their group.
He noticed Frisk's outburst, the boy's attitude about abandoning one of their own. And while Snow White still didn't like children... he had a new respect for Frisk.

The noise of their passage doesn't seem to alert the native wildlife, thankfully.

The fact that she's now lost is pretty irritating, but she's been in worse situations and she's always come out of them okay. Or mostly okay. Either way, she's regarding that looming shape in the distance with caution. There's no sense in rushing headlong into the unknown a second time in as many minutes, after all.
Still, she can't stay here, so she really has no choice but to make her way forward.
no subject
"C'mon, they're off the mark," Chara says, beginning to move in the direction that their 'blip' is running in. Their hand moves to the handaxe they keep under their hoodie.
After all. There isn't any real certainty this is one of their missing party members. Better safe than sorry.

Kuja is not in the best of moods.

What do you mean that's not a real math problem?
no subject
He frowned deep into the forest and responded the only way he knew how.
"YOU'RE NOT MAKING ANY SENSE!"
When that failed to clarify things, he sighed, pulled out his slate, and began tapping a message. Even if it couldn't send, he should write something just in case it's found.
no subject
WHAT IS THE BRANCH OF MATHEMATICS USED TO DETERMINE THE RELATIONS BETWEEN ANGLES AND SIDE LENGTHS OF RIGHT TRIANGLES?!"
He points for added effect, even if it's unlikely Pidge or Tidus will actually see it. Still! That's a real brainteaser.
no subject
The looming shape Pidge spotted comes into focus slowly, resolving itself to be a solid stone structure; it's too big to gauge its size in this fog, but it seems to be large and it is very old. It's difficult to discern but there's a dip in the wall several feet away that might be a door.

He gets distracted by the ping and digs out his iMog slate, before hastily typing a reply to Kanji. pretty sure we're near the eidolon! gotta find pidge first tho.
"Reception's pretty bad here, huh..."
no subject
no subject
Not that she's going to say that out loud, because that would be about the time when things took a turn for the worse. Instead, she's going to pull out her iMog and take at least half a dozen photos of whatever this thing is.
no subject
"Hey! I lost my head, not my ears...geez. Not that that makes things any better..."
Failing to recognize the contradiction there, he trudges forward, still tense with worry and doubt.

STAY WHERE YOU ARE.
no subject
And there's a distant sound of something exploding.
no subject
head towards the explosion! we'll meet up with you there and see what's up
"Everybody, we should get a move on towards... whatever that was," they say, down on the forest floor once more. "Just sent Pidge a message about it. If we all go towards a common point, we'll be able to regroup."
no subject
"Are you sure we'll even be able to find what it was?" Snow asked, though he was already turning in that direction. Though he was already thinking, Are we sure we want to know? No, they had to go. They needed to find the eidolons to survive. Even if it meant facing down scary explosions.
Snow White took a deep breath and yanked out his iMog, sending a quick message to Kanji. Was that you?
"Grab Tidus and let's go!"
