Event || Custom Fit

Who: All
When: September 10th to September 30th
Where: Curti Center and mines around the world
What: Characters assist Ganeshan in developing Custom Jobs.
Warnings/Notes: OOC Post

A. The Lab

As much as Ganeshan requires supplies to create Custom Jobs, he need help at home base. With the large number of potential applicants, outworlders and Curti Center employees are invited to help out in the lab, not only with testing transfer of Jobs to crystals, but in developing the abilities and running safety tests.

Easier said than done when all of these cats aren't roaming throughout the center and claiming everything to be their sitting spot. The interns are trying their best to catherd to little avail.

B. Job Development

The break room contains formal submission papers and pamphlets describing the steps required to develop a Custom Job. Senior employees are available to help characters workshop the abilities, but they mostly want to remain in the break rooms to avoid Ganeshan's constant Job mania. His booming voice is muffled through the doors, interspersed with allergic sneezing.

A room has been prepared for those to practice using their basic job abilities, primarily in making sure they're stable yet not too weak. There is a chance that an improper ability extraction can go wrong and hurt the user, so Ganeshan has group of White Mages are on standby in case things go south.

For those that would rather have all the fun without the work, there is the Ability Simulation and Modeling Room, where characters can design their abilities on the computer and see them play out on the screen before them. There's no limit here, and since Jessie is too busy to keep an eye on everyone, the outfits and visual effects have the potential to get...very, very silly.

C. Heigh-Ho

It's off to work you go. Those crystals won't mine themselves, and anyone strong enough must enter the mine in search of the necessary material. It's tedious, difficult work, and some of these are embedded so deeply in the rock that they might be more trouble than they're worth. Not to mention those gross bugs might not like their homes to be disturbed.

There's also the fact that monsters have a tendency to wander inside and attack, so they'll need some reliable body guards.

There should be more crystals deeper inside, but someone else will have to scout the area...

D. Explore the Dungeon

Which is where this team comes in. All the good stuff is deep in this mine, and reliable navigators are necessary to map out the tunnels without getting lost. There's also the fact that the previous owners of a time long ago didn't want opportunists to take their precious resources and outfitted the rooms with puzzles.

Door Locks are puzzles. Pressure plates activate traps. It's the ultimate test of critical thinking. Some of these don't make sense if you think for too long. Why did they go through all the trouble to program time-based puzzles with falling blocks and symbols? The Pupu are strange. At least the bats here are easy to fight, and the mine cart rides are fun.

The Lab

Sora traveled down the hallways softly shaking the food bag with a trail of cats following his steps. He had opted to play the job of herding the cats since he wasn’t really good with computers, paperwork, desk-oriented jobs, but he was good at moving. So he was, literally, collecting cats through the facility, room by room, hallway through hallway, and herding them. In circles. But it was effective because it got the cats out of the rooms and the people who were doing whatever it was they were doing at their desk to concentrate better.

He stopped in front of the next room and he poked his head in and gave the bag a soft shake. Cats began to stir and Sora’s eyes widened as he realized there was a body beneath the moving fur-blanket. “Eh, are you okay?”

Alright, so maybe this wasn't technically what they'd had in mind when they'd asked for volunteers to wrangle the cats. But in her defense, the felines currently lounging on her were also out of the way and not bothering anyone.

So basically, it was a win-win.

Or at least it was until her kitty-blanket started to stir. So she sort of shifted beneath them in order to peek out and see what had caught their attention. When she realized it was just a boy she didn't immediately recognize, Pidge smiled and wriggled an arm free to wave. "Me? Yea, I'm fine!"

It was so weird, like this grotesque themed film where the carpet came alive and moved around the house threatening to swallow up your favorite toy. Or, in this case, person! Sora gave a nervous and short laugh. "Ah, uh.. oh, okay.." He was now surrounded by a few cats who were demanding some kibble.

"I'm Sora! Do you work here in the lab?"

Pidge hadn't even considered how this might look to the casual observer, but from where she was sitting, things were just fine. So his reaction only made her chuckle a little. "It's fine! I was helping round them up earlier and then we just sort of flopped here."

Totally not a big deal! "Hi Sora. I'm Pidge! And uh... I don't technically work here~" Technicalities were important, she supposed. "What about you?"

Well, that’s good, because she looked to be in a questionable situation! Sora snorted. “I don’t work here… well, I mean, I’m working now.. but you know, just helping with the cat stuff while people who do things here do their things.” Whatever it was they did. It was a big place and it seemed each room, each section, had their own sort of function. Kind of like how his arm only does arm things and his leg can only do leg things (no matter how much he tried to perfect the sacred toe-clasping technique).

Sora stood there for a moment with his toes flexing in his shoes and his eyes drifted upward as he thought. Lost in his head, once again.

"That makes sense." It seemed like they'd been trying to wrangle as many people as they could get to keep the cats out of the way. And she couldn't really blame them for that. For now, this was a lot easier than trying to work out what she was going to do in terms of her own custom job. Even if she'd been convinced before that she was more of a dog person.

But now she's curious, since he'd been the one to bring it up. "Are you doing the custom job thing, too?" Maybe it was none of her business, but what was the harm in asking? The worst he could do was not want to talk about it. Probably.

“Oh, yeah!” He looked as if he’d brightened up at the mention of working on a custom job. “Yes, so.. I was, but then.. I mean, now, I’m just kind of taking a break, you know.” He gave the cats around him a quick glance before he returned his attention back to the other. “So you are too, Pidge?” He then chuckled as he recalled coming in here seeing her all sorts of covered with cats. Maybe she was working on a shield—

oh, that thought made Sora sad. A wash of disappointment weighed over him and his smile faded at the idea.

Honestly, the thought of figuring this out was pretty exciting. And even he couldn't deny it, if the way he'd brightened up just then was anything to go on. "Hey, that's okay. Taking a break is smart." Not that she really followed that advice, but that was entirely beside the point, wasn't it? "The cats are cute, though, right?" Maybe that was why he'd decided to take a break. She certainly couldn't blame him for that. "Mmm... yep! I decided it would be nice to try and round some of these little guys up." And then she'd sort of collapsed into the chair in a big cat-covered heap. No big deal.

"Have you figured out what you're going to do?" Because yes, she really was that nosy.

“Eh, not really.” He blinked over to her while she got herself settled. He bet it would be only a matter of seconds before she’d be crawling with cats again! His lips twisted into half a smirk. “You know, I just.. Don’t think I really get it.. it’s like.. I’ll start out at the beginning, go through the middle, and forget how I got there and want to get to the end already… kind of like.. a big math problem. It’s a journey… a difficult and unfair journey.” He nodded his eyes slid back down to the cats. “Probably like trying to count these cats ..” He snorted.

They were a busy and big bunch. He bet Merlin could do something about these cats, get them all floating and in line somewhere. Probably to a vet. Yeah, they should be taken to the vet and all be spayed or neutered. No more stray cats!
