Event || Custom Fit

Who: All
When: September 10th to September 30th
Where: Curti Center and mines around the world
What: Characters assist Ganeshan in developing Custom Jobs.
Warnings/Notes: OOC Post

A. The Lab

As much as Ganeshan requires supplies to create Custom Jobs, he need help at home base. With the large number of potential applicants, outworlders and Curti Center employees are invited to help out in the lab, not only with testing transfer of Jobs to crystals, but in developing the abilities and running safety tests.

Easier said than done when all of these cats aren't roaming throughout the center and claiming everything to be their sitting spot. The interns are trying their best to catherd to little avail.

B. Job Development

The break room contains formal submission papers and pamphlets describing the steps required to develop a Custom Job. Senior employees are available to help characters workshop the abilities, but they mostly want to remain in the break rooms to avoid Ganeshan's constant Job mania. His booming voice is muffled through the doors, interspersed with allergic sneezing.

A room has been prepared for those to practice using their basic job abilities, primarily in making sure they're stable yet not too weak. There is a chance that an improper ability extraction can go wrong and hurt the user, so Ganeshan has group of White Mages are on standby in case things go south.

For those that would rather have all the fun without the work, there is the Ability Simulation and Modeling Room, where characters can design their abilities on the computer and see them play out on the screen before them. There's no limit here, and since Jessie is too busy to keep an eye on everyone, the outfits and visual effects have the potential to get...very, very silly.

C. Heigh-Ho

It's off to work you go. Those crystals won't mine themselves, and anyone strong enough must enter the mine in search of the necessary material. It's tedious, difficult work, and some of these are embedded so deeply in the rock that they might be more trouble than they're worth. Not to mention those gross bugs might not like their homes to be disturbed.

There's also the fact that monsters have a tendency to wander inside and attack, so they'll need some reliable body guards.

There should be more crystals deeper inside, but someone else will have to scout the area...

D. Explore the Dungeon

Which is where this team comes in. All the good stuff is deep in this mine, and reliable navigators are necessary to map out the tunnels without getting lost. There's also the fact that the previous owners of a time long ago didn't want opportunists to take their precious resources and outfitted the rooms with puzzles.

Door Locks are puzzles. Pressure plates activate traps. It's the ultimate test of critical thinking. Some of these don't make sense if you think for too long. Why did they go through all the trouble to program time-based puzzles with falling blocks and symbols? The Pupu are strange. At least the bats here are easy to fight, and the mine cart rides are fun.

A
Klonoa looks a bit haggard from attempting to herd cats today, but he's still at it, though his footsteps are noticeably faltering. How long has it been since he had something to eat...? He's putting them out, one by one, but every time he comes back it's like half of them have already returned. He could swear that he's put that black one with the white spots outside three times already. All he can do is try to step the ever-flowing tide of felines with everything in his arsenal. Klonoa opens the door, holding a cat in one arm and with two draped from his ears wrapped around them, awkwardly stepping outside to set them down. Weaving a little on the way back in, he's very obviously in need of a break.

B
At one of the computers, Klonoa is working to see what would happen if you combined the asterisks that already exist. Dragoon, Swordmaster, White Mage, Gourmand, Monk, Red Mage... In combination, they're all making some pretty bizarre combinations.

...Wait.

Is he just picking all the jobs that have something to do with "wind" and trying to add them together?

D
Klonoa moves to and fro, carrying blocks and sliding them onto pressure plates, coming up with clever ways to pull them with him after he moves past the obstacles. Swinging spike traps? Push a block in to block them. Arrows shooting down from above? Hold the block above his head (Oof, this is so much easier with the wind ring). He seems like he's having fun, even.

Eventually, he pauses there, just looking between two doors and two pressure plates with switches. He shakes his head, turning around.

"This one needs more than one person."

D. The puzzles back home were safer

[personal profile] princeandscholar 2018-09-10 10:57 pm (UTC)(link)
If nothing else, Orcelito can come out of this congratulating himself for staying alive.

Oh, the non-lethal puzzles weren't bad. (Those were fun, actually!) Being shot at was not, and he's grateful to accompany those who were more prepared. He's watched as teammates tripped and disarmed traps, learning from them before attempting the dangerous ones himself. It is that learning that has him freeze in place now.

"Ah..." The blond boy, hair mussed from narrow escapes and coat torn in one corner from a close call, studies the walls, the floor, the ceiling... are there any holes? Cracks? Mysteriously gated-off areas? Hm... the two doors are concerning, though.

"It doesn't look like a trap. But... you are sure about this? We should test it first."

Klonoa blinks, and looks over at Orcelito.

"Huh? Oh, I don't know. All I know is that these doors look the same, but they probably.."

He steps over to the side, pointing at a bigger circular rock, almost but not completely flush with the wall, with two crystalline, glowing-red gemstones half-crusted over dimly visible above it.

"...unlock this hole."

He turns around again, glancing between the two doors.

"...I hadn't thought about there being a trap, I guess."

He says awkwardly, rubbing his head through his cap. Two doors, two pressure plates, and two switches, one of each on either side. Orcelito's examinations would yield a bit of fruit there, with one crack in the wall around the right door, revealing a third lever in a small alcove behind said door. Klonoa continues looking around, taking in the room a bit more.
princeandscholar: (Contemplative)

[personal profile] princeandscholar 2018-09-14 08:25 pm (UTC)(link)
He does not like the look of that circular rock and regards both it and the path of most likely trajectory with a scowl. (He did visit the Archaeologist's Guild. There were a lot of round tunnels and equally round boulders.) That frown turns into a curious "Oh?" at finding the lever in an alcove behind one door. Are there four levers, then? No, even if this one is a closed room, the other door could lead to something else.

Examination complete, Orcelito stands off to the side in a hopefully-secure corner of the room, hand to chin in thought.

"We have no assurance that either door will open if we stand on the plates. We also don't know where this leads." He nods to the circular rock.

"Even if we could trick the plates with another weight, we may still need to stand nearby to pull the levers." It looks like both actions should be done at once, yet… maybe that’s a deception. Still, he’s confident in agreeing that two people are required for the solution.

“Should we try the levers first or the pressure plates?” Looking to Klonoa now; he seems to be the more experienced professional of the two of them.

Klonoa nods, and then tilts his head thoughtfully.

"Well, people had to go through here at one point, right? And, if they did, they probably had to step over the pressure plates."

He says, walking over to the left door and peering down at the plate.

"It's a lot easier to accidentally trip a pressure plate than pull a lever. I bet the pressure plates are important in the solution. Might as well try pressing them."

princeandscholar: (Questioning)

[personal profile] princeandscholar 2018-09-19 09:30 pm (UTC)(link)
It is precisely because of that ‘easier to accidentally trip’ part that he hesitates. Yet… Klonoa has not led him erringly during these tests, and Orcelito can admit there’s trust enough to try. Left taken, he’ll approach the panel on the right, at an angle where he’ll have easy access to reaching the lever. He’ll be ready for anything like always.

“At the same time, then?” Cautiously placing one foot on the panel, without adding his weight until his teammate does the same.

[personal profile] wind_in_my_ears 2018-09-22 06:58 am (UTC)(link)
Klonoa nods once more, with conviction. "Alright. Three, two, one..."

He steps on the pressure plate as the door in front of Orcelito swings open to reveal a small alcove with a switch inside of it, as, simultaneously, the door in front of Klonoa swings open as well.

"..." Klonoa glances back at the door, and looks around. No traps or anything.. two red gems are still red...

"I think we're on the right track."
princeandscholar: (Puzzled)

[personal profile] princeandscholar 2018-09-24 09:01 pm (UTC)(link)
He freezes up when the doors open, but remains on the pressure plate. It’s good that they didn’t spring a trap, but now there are two levers he could conceivably pull. Perhaps even at the same time. First things first, Orcelito examines the switch and compares the two, searching for markings of wear on either, to see which one was used more.

"I agree. I think these may be the right choice, being the less obvious of the two."

With the age of the ruins, it's often difficult to tell exactly what's been 'in-use' more than something else, but luckily this isn't one of those cases. There's chips in the handle of the switch within the door alcove, while the one outside looks pristine and unmarred (if a bit dusty). The only catch, is that he's going to have to walk a few feet through the door to reach it, stepping beyond the open doorway.

"Huh.." Klonoa says, examining his part of the room. "How does it look over there? Are you seeing the same thing?" He calls out.

[personal profile] 4got10 2018-09-22 05:28 am (UTC)(link)
Chara was at least interested in the idea of making their own 'job'. If they could do something to be more like they had been back home, they'd take it. Still, it might take awhile before they really get to it, not the least of it being having to deal with all these cats. Where did the things even come from?

And then there's people who are wearing themselves out trying to horde them out.

"You know, I think you need to sit down," Chara says as they walk up behind Klonoa. "You look like you're about to drop."
wind_in_my_ears: (sleepy)

Re: A

[personal profile] wind_in_my_ears 2018-09-25 09:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Klonoa slowly turns around, looking over Chara... before he steps around and flops backwards onto a chair, slowly rubbing over his face.

"...Yeah. Thanks, Chara. I think you're right."

He says, looking both bewildered and grateful that they asked him, as if he'd forgotten the option had even existed.

"Are you here to help with them too...?"

[personal profile] 4got10 2018-09-26 06:47 pm (UTC)(link)
"Hoarding cats isn't exactly why I came, but I don't mind helping," Chara says, trying to pick one up before the kitten gracefully leaps out of range. They're way spryer than Chara thought they'd be.

"Wow. I can see how this could be a full time job."

wind_in_my_ears: (whoops)

[personal profile] wind_in_my_ears 2018-09-27 10:25 am (UTC)(link)
Klonoa nods, and winces as he notices it's that same one again but he exhales and flops his head backwards, forgetting it swiftly enough as his ears drape behind the chair in relaxation.

"I.. honestly think working at the hospital is less work than this. At least there I can solve problems by blasting magic at them... Uh, carefully, I mean."

[personal profile] 4got10 2018-09-29 02:54 am (UTC)(link)
"Well you could blast magic at the cats. Pretty sure everyone would appreciate it more if you didn't though."

Chara grabs, and pets, one of the cats, mostly trying to get it to just stay still and out of the way.
wind_in_my_ears: (sleepy)

[personal profile] wind_in_my_ears 2018-09-29 08:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Klonoa winces, rubbing his face as if he's suffered a terrible headache.

"I... think that's a solution that doesn't really work as a solution. The best I could think of is some sort of wall of wind that would keep them from coming back in... but that would keep everyone else from getting in, too.."

[personal profile] 4got10 2018-10-03 06:52 pm (UTC)(link)
"That's probably not the best answer, yeah," Chara replies, looking at the cat now clinging to their pants leg. They shake their leg a bit, hoping to throw the creature off, but it's to no avail.

"Especially if it blew them away. I mean, I think everyone likes the idea of it raining kittens as a concept, but it actually happening wouldn't be so fun.

Maybe we can lure them somewhere else with food."
wind_in_my_ears: (sleepy)

[personal profile] wind_in_my_ears 2018-10-04 09:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Klonoa nods. "Yeah, that would be helpful.. Just, put something out and let them come to it."

He looks around slowly, just glancing at all the felines. "But.. none of them will talk to me, or tell me what they want. How are we going to figure out what they like...?"

"I'm pretty sure Red Mage was already the everything bagel of the asterisks."

Noted by the passing zora who's watching everyone mess with these sliders more than they probably should. He definitely isn't stopping anyone, though.

"MANYA! Wh--!?"

The fluffy one exclaims, stumbling back in startled surprise.

"O-oh, uh, hah.. I.. didn't see you there!"

He says, rubbing his head awkwardly. "Red.. mage? Oh, I guess so. Hm.. If it's a little bit of everything, then would adding it to 'everything' mixed together even make much of a difference...?"

He muses.
strawberryredgrave: (I see you)

[personal profile] strawberryredgrave 2018-09-28 04:06 am (UTC)(link)
While not intending to startle him like that, Dante takes it in stride, folding his arms as if that didn't happen.

He shrugs. "Depends on what kinda everything you wanna do. Jack of all trades, specializing in one thing and dabbling in another...stuff like that. You got a theme in mind? Might be able to throw some suggestions at you."
wind_in_my_ears: (thinking)

[personal profile] wind_in_my_ears 2018-09-28 04:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Klonoa blinks, and then glances back at the monitor before turning to look at the zora again. "A.. theme? You mean, actually make my own? I mean, I guess I could.. I was mostly just seeing if I could get the wind to go any stronger."

He thinks for a moment. Maybe... there actually is something he could make out of this.

"...Do you got any ideas for jacks of all trades..? Maybe, wind-type ones...?"
strawberryredgrave: (Gettin pumped)

[personal profile] strawberryredgrave 2018-09-30 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
"Wind, huh..." He scratches his chin for a moment.

"The way I see it, having wind control is obvious, but what about moving like the wind? Speed and maneuverability are gonna be key in that; reposition yourself real easy to do whatever you gotta do. I'd say start with a dragoon base for exactly that. You ever seen a dragoon in action? They give ninjas a run for their money."
wind_in_my_ears: (Default)

[personal profile] wind_in_my_ears 2018-09-30 10:22 am (UTC)(link)
Klonoa nods, taking down a few notes. "Quick and easy to move. Got it." He says, keying some things in.

It makes sense. After all, being maneuverable and quick has always been his thing anyway. "Dragoon.. I haven't seen them, but I'm sure you're right. What about something to keep people from getting hurt?"
strawberryredgrave: (Mah guns!)

[personal profile] strawberryredgrave 2018-10-08 02:20 am (UTC)(link)
"Paladin, easy. Templars are good, too. Both are really good at taking hits and keeping others from taking hits. Templars are pretty damn slow, though; you'll need to fix that up if you don't wanna be dead last. Mixing it with dragoon oughta fix that right up!"

God, look at him go on and on about job mixing. A certain other zora might be influencing him too much.
wind_in_my_ears: (sleepy)

[personal profile] wind_in_my_ears 2018-10-16 07:30 am (UTC)(link)
It takes a while, that's for certain. Klonoa keeps messing with settings, changing things around, looking for more wind things... mixing speed, defense, and a little of everything with all of the advice he's getting, before he finally sits back, flopping down to look up at the screen above him at the thing he's created.

"Whoof... Well.. How's that look?" He asks.
