Event || Custom Fit

Who: All
When: September 10th to September 30th
Where: Curti Center and mines around the world
What: Characters assist Ganeshan in developing Custom Jobs.
Warnings/Notes: OOC Post

A. The Lab

As much as Ganeshan requires supplies to create Custom Jobs, he need help at home base. With the large number of potential applicants, outworlders and Curti Center employees are invited to help out in the lab, not only with testing transfer of Jobs to crystals, but in developing the abilities and running safety tests.

Easier said than done when all of these cats aren't roaming throughout the center and claiming everything to be their sitting spot. The interns are trying their best to catherd to little avail.

B. Job Development

The break room contains formal submission papers and pamphlets describing the steps required to develop a Custom Job. Senior employees are available to help characters workshop the abilities, but they mostly want to remain in the break rooms to avoid Ganeshan's constant Job mania. His booming voice is muffled through the doors, interspersed with allergic sneezing.

A room has been prepared for those to practice using their basic job abilities, primarily in making sure they're stable yet not too weak. There is a chance that an improper ability extraction can go wrong and hurt the user, so Ganeshan has group of White Mages are on standby in case things go south.

For those that would rather have all the fun without the work, there is the Ability Simulation and Modeling Room, where characters can design their abilities on the computer and see them play out on the screen before them. There's no limit here, and since Jessie is too busy to keep an eye on everyone, the outfits and visual effects have the potential to get...very, very silly.

C. Heigh-Ho

It's off to work you go. Those crystals won't mine themselves, and anyone strong enough must enter the mine in search of the necessary material. It's tedious, difficult work, and some of these are embedded so deeply in the rock that they might be more trouble than they're worth. Not to mention those gross bugs might not like their homes to be disturbed.

There's also the fact that monsters have a tendency to wander inside and attack, so they'll need some reliable body guards.

There should be more crystals deeper inside, but someone else will have to scout the area...

D. Explore the Dungeon

Which is where this team comes in. All the good stuff is deep in this mine, and reliable navigators are necessary to map out the tunnels without getting lost. There's also the fact that the previous owners of a time long ago didn't want opportunists to take their precious resources and outfitted the rooms with puzzles.

Door Locks are puzzles. Pressure plates activate traps. It's the ultimate test of critical thinking. Some of these don't make sense if you think for too long. Why did they go through all the trouble to program time-based puzzles with falling blocks and symbols? The Pupu are strange. At least the bats here are easy to fight, and the mine cart rides are fun.

Look, Finn, buddy. It's fine to laugh. He won't judge him for it. Be curious about what was so funny, sure. Insulted? Nah.

Something about what Finn says earns a frown from Takeshi, though. He knew far too well what light could do if left unchecked. Then he asks that question, and he can't help the strange glint in his eye. Not anger or anything like that; no, not if the slight flinch is anything to go by.

"I'm fine." He knows most with his powers would be anything but fine. "Or at least, as fine as someone like me can be." Yet that leads to more questions and he knows it. "And before you ask about that, the place I was before Crystallis and Vaikuntha was not for the faint of heart. I'm a survivor."

Survivor of the Tower, of a doomed timeline that was destroyed by one lonely little girl... Take your pick. "We have a task to complete before April, and the skills I was born with might be needed. Used them to help capture a psychopath once before, after all."

Finn knows all about surviving. He just nods and lets it go.

"To be honest with you, I don't know where to even begin with this Bahamut business. You're powerful, no doubt about it, but I wish we knew more about how to use abilities like that. From the way they talked, this sounds like an Eidolon we can't fight." But what does he know? Finn's fishing for ideas more than trying to be a downer, though, not that it's likely working very well.

"Better to be prepared than otherwise, though, right?"
acceptedlife: (alert ♡ you sure about that?)

"Anything can be fought. The better question is: can we survive?" There was an answer for that and no one was going to like it. "Not as we are, now. Most of those who fought another entity with the same name on Crystallis had been on that planet for years mastering the Job system. Onion Knight was far more powerful and we could combine different skills after ten jobs were maxed. It's not so here."

What that meant he'd leave for the scientists. He's a weapon and he knows it. "The idea of searching for the other four or locating the summoner is a more survivable option, and against what every fiber of my being wants."

He wants to punch something. Hard. With a darkness-blanketed fist. Not any of them, mind, he'd never hurt an innocent, but he's getting old for a replica. Next thing everyone knew, he'd be shaking a cane or something from his apartment balcony telling young whipper snappers to get off his metaphorical lawn.

Finn would like nothing more than to attack something right now, too. "We don't have many leads for those options, either." Yeah, things look bleak.

"If only there was a way to buy more time, or maybe the summoner will get cocky and reveal themselves." If. Maybe. "Everyone's working together on this. We'll figure it out somehow." But he's fresh out of new ideas right now, which just makes him feel bad.

"Not many, but something is better than nothing." Blah blah, night darkest before the dawn, blah. He's not going to go into dark and light speeches. He could, and he really wanted to because those concepts were far better than a hope that could become a poison to their souls.

... He was likely going to hate himself from pulling on those experiences, but they are words that likely need to be said. "Don't give up. Time may be short, and the summoner may still be hidden, but you're right. If a bunch of misfits could stop a tyrant from destroying what remained of their homes in a year's time, we can and will figure this out."

Finn took a deep breath and smiled lightly back. "Yeah. We can do this. We've all worked well enough together so far."

Ugh, but what a depressing subject. That seemed to be the go-to today. Finn tried for something a little bit lighter. "You thinking about taking on apprentices with that new job?"
acceptedlife: because, I mean, I don't have to heal. (smile ♡ sure. if you wanna die)

[personal profile] acceptedlife 2018-09-30 11:35 pm (UTC)(link)
"Exactly," he smiled faintly. Come on, Finn. He's the dark one. No need for them both to get depressed.

He crossed his arms, thinking about it for a moment. "Only if I think they're capable of handling it. My style relies on speed and strength, but is terrible in defense." That, and not being able to stare into the abyss unafraid tended to leave people drowning. There's also the saying about playing with fire and people getting burned; either one is accurate. Though the question left him with another. "Why? Interested?"
hatejakku: (awe)

[personal profile] hatejakku 2018-10-01 09:48 pm (UTC)(link)
He startled at the question. "Ah, no, I-" Then Finn goes silent in thought. Those moves were really cool and way better than anything he could do right now. He was good at what he did, but was it enough to stop an Eidolon?

"You know, I haven't considered apprenticing before. Everything you just did was stuff I've never seen myself doing before." That kind of thing was reserved for the force sensitive, but he could do things like that here if he just chose to. "I'll think about it..."
acceptedlife: because, I mean, I don't have to heal. (smile ♡ sure. if you wanna die)

[personal profile] acceptedlife 2018-10-02 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
Aww, look at that startling. It's so precious. He had only meant it as a joke at first, but if he was serious about it, he would have to test him later. Mostly to see if he'd be able to handle it. If not, then he wouldn't apprentice him. Simple as that.

"Good, do that." So far, it was a positive that he didn't jump right at it like a certain someone he knew. "The skills I know from home aren't for the faint of heart."
hatejakku: (serious)

[personal profile] hatejakku 2018-10-04 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
"No, I believe that." He definitely remembered the darkness that Kylo Ren used.

But Kylo was also powerful, and Takeshi seemed able to get away from being totally consumed. So... Ugh. "I'll let you know. Until then, I hope you find someone else that fits the bill."
acceptedlife: because, I mean, I don't have to heal. (smile ♡ sure. if you wanna die)

[personal profile] acceptedlife 2018-10-05 04:43 am (UTC)(link)
"It's not finding one who 'fits the bill' - it's finding someone who won't let it get to their head." Because he knows what the dark can do. Technically, he is darkness. He only says what he does as a warning, and an unspoken promise that if it gets to that point, he'll stop training anyone if they start to slip.

He smiles faintly. "I'll be waiting, then."
