Who: Naoto, Kanji, Kuja, and Uendo
When: September 3rd, All Day
Where: Lavode, Temple of Lavode
What: Let's go meet Shiva
Warnings/Notes: Will be added if any come up
A busy city like Lavode seemed like a very odd place for a temple to the Ice Eidolon to be located, but it's just as likely that it was built around. All the hustle and bustle though wouldn't make it easy for the party of four to locate their destination that much was certain. Even though Naoto checked over the map a few times, once they departed the airship, they'd have to do their best to stay together through the crowds.
Maybe they should just rent a Shoopuf...

Maybe they should just rent a Shoopuf...

Kuja shivers, badly, wrapping arms around himself.
"Yes, let's face this trial. We can hardly expect to handle Bahamut at his best if we can't weather a job interview."
Time for some fun! Gimme a single d20 roll, folks, with advantage. So roll twice and pick higher.
It was all for Naoto and... Uendo? No. This was somebody else. How interesting.
From the pit surrounding them were thin silvery tendrils, stretching and crackling as they bent and twisted to the whims of the growing winds. They formed something akin to a ring of trees, sprouting crystalline leaves as the boughs began to brush the ceiling. The platform itself crackled and groaned as frost crystals began to creep in from the edges, slowly stretching inward toward the center.
The snow that began to fall had begun to stick to the floor, but at two sides of the room, the powder had begun to pile. They twitched and shivered, as if something lived beneath the white.
You got it. Rolled 18
... but this wasn't helping her get Kanji back. How long could a Eidolon safely inhabit a person's body?
Rolled 16!
Something twitched at the very edge of her vision. Kisegawa's eyes darted to the piles of snow gathering on both sides. She could have sworn she just saw something move...
An 18 as well
The movement has him concerned, however.
Round 2! 'Nother d20, no bonuses.
"With mine own eyes, my love. But it does naught to quell- to quell- to quell... Goddamn it, stop- Quell what mine brood-brother suffers through..."
A visible wince. Fingers swept into the short blond hair and grasped, revealing skin that had dried and begun to crack from the cold. The three would endure the increasing temperatures, but perhaps it was another thing entirely to be forced to house a supernatural embodiment of ice.
The platform began to crackle again. Large fissures began to tear into the platform itself, snaking around the summoners plus witness. The temperature dipped further as the snow mounds bisected, stony arms emerging and pushing the rest of their bodies from the powder: Ice elementals had arrived, four in total, each bringing with it further theft of what warmth remained in the chamber. They approached both Uendo and Naoto.
They smelled strange, like dusty book pages, perfume, soba noodles, dango...
Rolled lower. 15?
Her eyes narrow at the sight of his skin and her grip tightened on her staff. As usual, she was correct to be concerned about this unusual possession by Shiva.
Taking a step forward, again the fissures made her pause. Several Ice elementals and no proper fire magic for her to deal with them... not to say that she wasn't entirely incapable, but she would have to switch jobs. Still, what was that smell? Why those books? Why that perfume? She twisted her grip, leering at the elementals, but also shooting a look back at Shiva.
18!
Unfortunately, Kisegawa had no fire-elemental skills whatsoever, as a Summoner or otherwise. She'd have to chew out Uendo later for not anticipating such a glaring weakness.
"Tch..." Well, she could at least guard Naoto's back in case the Ice Elementals tried to get sneaky. Ready to cast Runic at a second's notice, she fixed a glare at the floating runes... which inexplicably smelled of home. What, was Shiva trying to mess with their heads now?
8...
The scent is... unusual, for certain. Not ice, but paper and perfume. It doesn't remind him of anything in particular.
Round 3! d20, disadvantage. Lower roll~
Smells of home, unmistakable memories and even the whispers of familiar voices were carried in the winds that began to build to gale forces. Exposed skin began to numb between thrums of pain. In Kuja's case, however, sparkling ice had begun to creep up his ankles and calves.
The Cure was a blink of white energy, giving off a small burst of light. For just a moment, there was just a breath of warmth to drive out the cold. It was gone just as quickly as it had come.
The elementals had stopped before the summoners, then slowly circled and danced. They charged and released small Blizzard spells. To breathe was pain, frost building in nostrils and lungs, threatening a cough.
Kanji's shaking hands gripped the handle of the greatsword. He raised the weapon high, teeth bared. He seemed to be struggling...
3. Phew, at least it's not 1
"Kanji-kun! Fight it! Fight her!"
At least do better than she was. It was freezing...!
10
Kisegawa growled and hoisted her staff in a defensive stance, casting Runic to reduce some of the damage.
"Get behind me, Detective!" If they managed to maneuver the elementals to one side, she could try tanking the Blizzard spells and buy Naoto some time to think their way out of this. Not that it would make this damn cold any more bearable, but it was better than doing nothing.
OHHHHH, DIS IS BAD. (2)
Oh whew, my dice was... dicey. No roll needed! Good job, guys.
But amid the crackles and sounds of shattering was a roar. Kanji wobbled on his legs, slammed the heel of his hand against his forehead, and was immediately on the move toward them.
"On me! On me now!"
The great sword gleamed as he slid over the ice and came to a stop. He yanked Kuja in close, and threw half of his cloak over the other man. The other half was held open, hand outstretched for the other two just out of his reach. The Cura that built and coalesced in the blade offered what felt like a damn radiator's worth of heat.
"She's winding up for one last 'fuck you'! I came here to make sure you guys don't die, and I'm gonna do my job, damn it!"
Wooow
Thank whatever gods for Kanji's brashness to a solution - or in this case, ending a possession on himself.
He had Kuja and Naoto reached when the other part of his cloak was offered. The warmth and light of Cura made her breathe easier, and was enough to bend her fingers. Good, triggers needed flexible limbs. Drawing her gun, she took aim at the elementals, but it wasn't bullets coming out when she pulled. Instead, it was a stream of fire to enter the icy gale as she used Flamethrower.

The terrible, biting cold is like needles being driven into his skin. Dimly, the realization sets in that he could very well freeze to death before the trial ever completes.
Kanji's [Cura] helps tremendously, and the icy numbness subsides, but he's a fragile individual, as much as it pains him to admit it. Adrenaline pumping like fire through his veins, a surge of gratitude for the heat, the pain of being slowly frozen again. "Oh, to hell with this and to hell with the trial. Consider this my resumé if ever I decide to become a Summoner."
He changes, then, standing beside Kanji and Naoto as white bleeds into crimson , the raw, terrible power of [Trance] shedding the cold in an instant. "All together now; a little touch of spring to melt the winter frost." [Fira] forms in one hand, burning white-hot, and then is thrown at the furthest Elemental. See how they handle that.

She was momentarily startled by Kuja's sudden transformation -- but now wasn't the time to ponder. They only had moments to act. If only she had some fire as well... What a pity. She was very much in the mood to burn something.
Defense, then. Kanji was protecting Kuja, so Kisegawa would continue to do the same for Naoto. She stayed out of the detective's way until the Flamethrower died down, then stepped forward to shield her the best she could, reactivating Runic against whatever magic Shiva might throw their way.
"What, out of tricks already?" she shouted into the blizzard. "Show us the end to your dream of ice, Shiva! We will endure!"

Kanji continued to focus, adding Cura upon Cura. Naoto's flamethrower streamed through one elemental, causing it to shudder and burn. The floating stones within the swirling light that comprised the creature struggled to maintain their form. Trance Kuja's Fira was a streak of light through the darkening arena, slamming into the other elemental, sending it staggering and falling into the pit.
Kisegawa's request, all the while, was granted. In response, the winds began to howl, swirling and carrying the frozen branches of the crystalline trees. The temperature sharply dipped its last as it grew hard to breathe, the cold seeping into clothing. The snow began to pile on, flakes sticking together and blending with freezing rain, creating the heart of a blizzard.
Kanji grit his teeth and bore down. He had to shut his aching eyes, fight to control his breathing.

So even with numbing fingers, Naoto will peer out from Kanji's cloak and aim again at the elementals, releasing another Flamethrower attack into the ice and snow.
