[ Sylvarie’s voice is soft when she speaks—perhaps too soft, and it would be understandable if the empress had not heard nor noticed her. The girl’s gaze is directed toward the hands folded delicately over her stomach as the others speak, but one detail in particularly begs her to ask as she looked to her fellow coworkers.

Gi, Dante, Owen, Lean... They were the only ones here. ]

Your Majesty, forgive me if I am being ignorant or rude, but... We could have come along with the rest of the Center staff later. Please, why were we invited to this dinner instead? Was it the request of the Director?

[ Closing her eyes, she continued. ] We were born here, in this world, raised... Maybe these outworlders will be the new Heroes of Light, but is? What would separate us from the others and also pulled into the group?

[ This was all moving too quickly, drastically... it was frightening. ]

[ A pause. ]

Coincidences have no place here. I do not believe it to be a coincidence that you were handpicked by Chandius at the same time they arrived and Bahamut's summoning started.

You're saying the Director knows more about this as well?

[He shared a look with the others, furrowed and frown deepening. He crossed his arms as he mulled over that piece of information.]

Then, what are your thoughts on this, Your Majesty, if it's no coincidence then what would be our purpose aside from helping the outworlders get acclimated to this world.

I do not know if he would know more. Not... Consciously, anyway. Chandius has always been a mysterious man and I doubt even he knows much about himself.

[ She turns to Owen. ]

I have my own theories. But they are too unreasonable to be shared.

[ Sylvarie can’t stop herself from smiling softly—not mockingly, nor disbelieving, but one of a certain sadness that has always seemed to have had her in its grasp. The trip here had made it more difficult to conceal, and with this revelation why bother hiding it now? ]

Forgive me if I am blunt and out of place Your Majesty, but we have an unknown party attempting the summoning of the Lord of Eidolons with knowledge that was seemingly lost long ago. I believe the time for ‘unreasonable’ has passed.

[ Glancing to the outworlders sitting at the table, she continued. ] Isn’t it... ‘unreasonable’ enough that the next generation of Heroes of Light sit with us? And some even say they fought alongside the Four.

I believe in reincarnation.

I believe if some of the heroes who fought the Goddess of Death died when fighting her, then surely they are reborn and amongst us today. And where else would fate have them, but pited against her forces once more? [A pause] Of course, it is better for you to hope I am wrong. For if I am right, then this means surely the Goddess herself is born anew, too.

[ There it was, one of the things Sylvarie had been most afraid of since witnessing that dream with some of the self-proclaimed Heroes. Her stomach twists with familiar dread, thinking about the woman they encountered, the one others claimed had been the Goddess of Death. What if she really had followed them from the Dream Width somehow.

The Empress was right, the theory did seem unreasonable—but she remembered the statues, glancing quickly out of the corner of her eye toward Lean. ]

With such a theory, then one of us could be a former Hero.
