I'll never let you go [Closed]

Who: [OU] Takashi Shirogane, [OU] Hunk, the crew signed up to retrieve them.
When: August 15th and 16th
Where: Dream width and then airship
What: Two of Team Voltron got canon updated and now must be retrieved.
Warnings/Notes: Spoilers for season 6, swearing, violence, aaand idefk I'll add more if we need it.

The signal beeps in a steady rhythm like a heart monitor assuring all the patient is still alive. After vanishing a week ago, Takashi Shirogane's mark on the readouts gives no sign what's ahead.

Nor will Hunk's a day later. What does? The memory nebulas swirling with light and color. Just like any other retrieval.

[He's surprised to see Shiro up, but if he's feeling well enough... Adrien jumps a little, but then smiles back.]

It's okay... I mean, you probably couldn't help disappearing like that... or, whatever happened exactly. [So, he wasn't too upset or anything... kind of... slightly... minutely...] I've been okay for the most part. I'd like to think I helped, but I don't think it was enough.

I think you helped far more than you guessed. Being there, offering your hand, and being here...that's a lot. Thank you, Adrien. You helped save me. [He reaches into his pocket and produces his slate. He sets it on his leg and swipes his thumb across it.] My memories are jumbled but I remember needing to go outside to get air...

Then all of you within my memory of saving Commander Holt. [Shiro motions for Adrien to come closer. He had reviewed all of the messages in his slate and left a few for Hunk. His smile has an exhausted edge.]

I think...the Dream Width pulled me back. I'm caught up to the others now, I'm as they last saw me in our memories of home. [Despite the fact he's missing his right arm, the rest of the bicep and shoulder made of metal and robotics...he looks relieved and even somewhere close to happy. Some shadows and weight that used to always follow him is missing.]

[Adrien is... well, he doesn't know what to say. It isn't often that he gets praise from authority figures - er, important ones. It's few and far in-between as of late that he can't help but flush in joy.] ... Yeah. Hunk said you wanted to step out for a minute, but when you didn't return within the hour, he freaked out.

[Though he considers just to remain hovering at the door, Adrien can't help eventually obeying the silent gesture.]

That's weird... I mean, Dream Width pulling you back like that. [Seemed like a far pull. Anything, this is Shiro as everyone else remembered him.] Wow... I won't ask what exactly happened, but I bet it can be summarized as 'a lot'.

[He grins a little. Whatever the details were, Shiro did seem... better.]

A lot is the politest way to put it. [He says, his eyes warming as Adrien approaches. He doesn’t look back into his memories. There is too big of a chance the shadows waiting in the past will surge forward. He is too weak to not be affected. Not this soon.]

...

Adrien. [He takes a moment as they settle and his voice is gentle.] In your message you said... ‘why does everyone disappear?’ Are you comfortable with telling me more about that?

[Picking out a spot, Adrien kind of just sits down, keeping a small space, and nods. From what he saw, yeah, 'a lot' is simple, but they're not talking about that.]

[Instead, he pales slightly because right, he messaged that, didn't he? There couldn't have been a network error or something... no, he'd be lucky then.]

... I guess... I mean, it would only be fair at this point. Hunk already knows. [And Marinette, but she's from the same world.]

It's not about fairness, Adrien. [His smile falls as he places his hand on his own thigh. He turns his gaze on him, trying to be as gentle with his words as he can be. It's important to establish the story doesn't have to be told.]

It's up to what you're comfortable talking about. I'll never press you. It's your feelings and your story. But I'm here whenever you're up to explaining it. Or whenever you want to talk about anything at all.

Oh... Is that how it works? [He's kind of used to people being a little more than invasive. As long as it's not asking how he's really feeling...]

... No, I'll tell you. It's not a big secret or anything anyway. [Even if he shifts a little because... yeah. He gets to speak for himself about it.] Back home, my mom disappeared. Literally, she was there one day and then gone the next.

[For a moment he says nothing but his hand shifts and he offers it silently. If he wants that comfort, it's there.]

And you weren't that old when it happened, were you.

[Though he sees Shiro's hand, he doesn't take it... at least, not yet.]

No. I remember it clearly since it only happened over a year ago. Father tried to look into it, but in the end, he told me nothing had been found. After that... things have been complicated.

[Nothing has been found. That sounds suspicious. His hand is left where it is.] Complicated, how?

Father started burying himself further into work. Our relationship had always been just okay with Mom around, but without her... [He shakes his head] Anyway, that’s it.

[He watches Adrien’s face.] I disappeared on everyone the first time because I was taken by the Galra whenever i was on my mission to explore the moon of Kerberos.

The second time...was the battle you saw. It took too much out of me. The Lion saved me. I was taken inside it and kept safe until Keith brought me home. [Probably better not to say he died. But Andrien gave his story. He will tell his.]

...now you know what I meant before. ...No matter what I’ll be back if I have a choice.

... Okay.

[He's glad he can actually talk to Shiro after his abrupt disappearing act and hear that. He just wishes it could be the same back home with his mom. And his father just had a lot of explaining to do.]

[He gives a smile.]

And thank you for sharing your story with me. I know how difficult that can be.

[He lays his hand back on his own thigh.] I won’t betray your trust.

[He smiles back as his thoughts swirl in circles. What else to say? Wait.]

I hope things haven’t been too hecktic. I know us Paladins can be a little much. And since you’re part of this team too, it takes time to adjust.

It's a little strange talking about it myself, but... thanks.

[It was also just remembering that event was real; that one day it might be answered or not.]

It's actually been nice. I like having a full house; and it might've been a little crazy, but I like that too.

[He relaxes just a hair. It's as much as he ever relaxes around anyone not Keith.]

I'm glad to hear that. If we get too crowds, I'll see about getting us some more space but just taking over some of next door. We'll be a lively compound.

[He laughed.]

If we did something like that, we'd probably have something similar to the Curti Center housing again. Not that it would be bad, but we should make an effort to live with the community, right?

[His smile grows warmer. Seeing Adrien laugh, he knows things are okay. For now.]

You’re right. We have been living fairly well with those around us. If we need more space in the house we can pay to have it expanded. It shouldn’t cost too much.

It shouldn't! If we all chip in a little, more space will be easy to cover!

[His eyes gleam a bit because even he can help pay for it.]
