I'll never let you go [Closed]

Who: [OU] Takashi Shirogane, [OU] Hunk, the crew signed up to retrieve them.
When: August 15th and 16th
Where: Dream width and then airship
What: Two of Team Voltron got canon updated and now must be retrieved.
Warnings/Notes: Spoilers for season 6, swearing, violence, aaand idefk I'll add more if we need it.

The signal beeps in a steady rhythm like a heart monitor assuring all the patient is still alive. After vanishing a week ago, Takashi Shirogane's mark on the readouts gives no sign what's ahead.

Nor will Hunk's a day later. What does? The memory nebulas swirling with light and color. Just like any other retrieval.

Exhilarating.

In a word, that's how this feels right now. It's like the first time she ever sat in Necronomicon's cockpit, the liberated by the truth she'd just accepted, feeling knowing what to do and feeling everything respond under her fingers perfectly. It's incredible.

And it's enough that for a moment, she completely forgets why she's here. She's here to help a friend of course, that part stays solid in her mind. But for the rest of it? Those thoughts are all but swept away in the rush of energy and power from the quintessence.

"What do we need to do? Kick his butt, right?"

The controls in front of him are familiar - he remembers Black's cockpit, trying to see if Black would respond to him, but being inside of Black and piloting it is another thing entirely. That's not what gets his stomach to drop, though, as he looks into the glow of the quintessence field.

He remembers this. He was here.

"We need to get out of the field." His voice manages to stay steady, as he tries to think. He remembers Hunk, in Red's cockpit, telling him it was just a memory. That he already knew what was going to happen, and how that shook the memory apart before they were spat out into the void of the Dream Width. "Hunk, you know how this goes. You need to focus on that."

Okay.

This was all pretty above and beyond anything she'd ever seen or done.

She'd known, coming into this, that she was going to be wholly unprepared. That they'd end up in one of Hunk's memories. Marinette had prepared for that. What she hadn't been prepared for was waking up in something that looked like it was straight out of a video game. Except the stakes were much higher now, and this wasn't a game.

But this felt good. Even Marinette had to admit that. She'd thought zipping around Paris on her yoyo was amazing, but this was... so much better!

The sound of voices snapped her back to reality, and Marinette finally took a look around. Once she was satisfied that she'd seen all that she could see, she shifted a little in her seat to get comfy and finally focused on what she could see. "How do we get out of the field?" She's not trying to be difficult so much as she's genuinely curious. But then she seems to remember why they'd come here in the first place. "Do we have to fight that thing?"

Castor recognizes the interior of Red almost instantly. What she doesn't recognize, however, is the blindly white infinity in front of her eyes. Its mesmerising in it's intensity and she feels...

She feels...

Lance breaks her train of thought before it articulates, and she finds it suddenly so easy to focus on everything that's happening that she answers without a thought.

"Why out, an' how long've we got? Hunk, are ye listenin?"

Hunk hears the others on the comm systems, and just sighs deeply as his arms go through the motions of controlling the leg. Of course they have questions, but nobody ever wants to ask them when it's safe! So his voice comes out with a bit more of a snarl than anyone may have expected.

"Pidge, Allura, are you serious?!" He groans in frustration, but continues. "Lotor's squirreled away the entire Altean race, they worship him, and he harvests them like animals for quintessence! He doesn't care about the Galra, he just wants to break into other universes and rule all of them!"

"Keith," there's a moment, a cognitive flicker, because Lance was always the Black Paladin after Shiro disappeared. "we need to beat Lotor, and fast. Lance, ready and waiting, we'll win like we always have!" Hunk can't think about why they need to win quickly, his memory-addled mind dances around the line of thought entirely.

And then Voltron's sword and shield meet the Sincline's two blades in a flurry of slashes. Yellow and Blue are fast, giving a lot of maneuverability to compensate for a slower draw on Green's shield. The Sincline whirls around for an attack with the tail that bypasses the shield, and there's another flicker within the cognition, an inversion of the white and black of interdimensional space...

As the Sincline's tail is sheared clean off. Sparks are smothered by the quintessence, but an errant cloud of blackness seems to react ever so slightly. A series of lesser blows are exchanged, and the two fighters distance themselves once more. And then voices begin to echo:

"We took a major shot, but I feel fine!" comes from Green's cockpit.
"All this quintessence is keeping us at full power!" Hunk sounds awestruck, even excited.
"It's more than that. Can you hear your lions talking to you? Voltron is capable of more than we ever imagined." Keith's words come from... Black Red?? That sounds about right to Hunk.

And as the head of Voltron charges and fires some laser eye beams at the Sincline, forcing it back further, Lotor switches to an offensive approach. So far so "my dice are drunk," everyone.

Futaba hears what the others are saying, what Hunk's saying, and.... the part about Lotor does strike a note in the back of her head. One that makes her stomach knot with anger. Sounds like he would fit right in with... with...? Ugh, it doesn't matter. She pushes the thought aside for now. It meant that he definitely could use this ass-kicking. All the more.

She does hear what Keith (??) is talking about though. A comforting, murmuring in the back of her mind, familiar oh so very familiar, underpinned with an odd sort of static at times? Like feedback from a mic turned up too loud, maybe. Another thing not worth worrying about now.

With a bit of breathing room between themselves and Sincline, though, she's moving again, her hands dancing over Green's controls, before adding the beyard to the mix. Waiting until as close as possible to the last second to swap the shield for the arm cannon.

"Pidge and Allura aren't here right now!" Lance grits his teeth, hands tightening on the sticks. This is already not how things went, which is inevitable from how this isn't Voltron. These are people Hunk knows, who care about him, who are trying to find a way to bring him back.

"It's just you and me and people who've never piloted before!"

What the fuck do you even do as the Black Paladin? He's not a strategist. He can't think and come up with plans like Shiro, doesn't have the experience or knowledge he has, and he doesn't have the instincts Keith does - though there is the chance that will be enough to help Hunk realize this.

"And you shouldn't be asking me what to do!" He pulls back, though backing away even further won't be much use unless everyone else follows him. Honestly, he's shocked they've been able to maintain Voltron, but he supposes that's the memory at work.
