I'll never let you go [Closed]
Who: [OU] Takashi Shirogane, [OU] Hunk, the crew signed up to retrieve them.
When: August 15th and 16th
Where: Dream width and then airship
What: Two of Team Voltron got canon updated and now must be retrieved.
Warnings/Notes: Spoilers for season 6, swearing, violence, aaand idefk I'll add more if we need it.
The signal beeps in a steady rhythm like a heart monitor assuring all the patient is still alive. After vanishing a week ago, Takashi Shirogane's mark on the readouts gives no sign what's ahead.
Nor will Hunk's a day later. What does? The memory nebulas swirling with light and color. Just like any other retrieval.

Castor's next conscious thought is that Oh, this is like being underwater. But in the air. She can do this, then. Maybe.
She takes note of who's around, faces familiar and not. Marks Shiro. Marks who she assumes are their opponents (and how very colourful they are). Things start fitting together as lingering momentum settles her against a wall. A wall very close to the largest of the generals, with ears like an oversized cat.
With a grunt(and a roll of 15), she lunges for Zethrid, seeking to restrain the large woman. Wasn't every day she got to use all four limbs, after all.

Only, Keith and Lance hadn't been here before. Nor had Adrien and Castor. How was that going to affect things? With no time to ponder it, she'd just have to wait and see. It was Keith's voice that snapped her back to the reality of the situation, and she nodded. "Got it."
She'd been expecting it, and still the sudden threat of the cargo managed to sneak up on her. But she was able to avoid being squished by wayward cargo by hopping over the boxes as they headed her way. And then the gravity decided to take a vacation.
Not one to be deterred by the little things, she gripped her bayard a little tighter and pressed the button to activate the grappling hook. Moments later, she was aiming for Ezor. She'd never actively tried to just smack someone with the hook before, so this was going to be interesting.
In the meantime, she glanced over at her father. It would be fine. Adrien would keep him safe until they could wake Shiro up.

Keith hadn't given any instructions either. Which means it's time to fall into the one role she knows how to play, no matter the cards: support.
"Got your back, Adrien!" she calls. She remembers just enough about trying to move through zero G at Okumura's Palace to move towards one of the walls one it hits. It's difficult to get an actual point to latch onto - the walls are all pretty smooth - but it's enough to keep her from flying wild. Once she's got a good point and a decently clear shot, she'll likewise push off, aiming for the chairs at the front of the plane.
If she's able to grab one of them, it'll make it easier for both him and Commander Holt to get up there - better leverage, plus a target that could reach back and grab you if you missed. Not that she's the strongest either but. Not the point.
And all the while, she's keeping half an eye out for anything she can - anything the others might be able to use, or else surprise attacks or accidentally flying allies that might run into each other.

He catches sight of Pidge making it up front but she aims for Ezor. "Pidge! Let me handle Ezor! Get to your father!" He barks out his command as Ezor turns and swipes at him. He dodges to the left and grabs at the bar up over his head.
While Acxa turns to face her attackers and launches herself forward to deal with Adrien. Unfortunately, this sends the seat forward out of Futaba's reach for the moment. It snaps back into place as Sam struggles to get himself to the seat as well. Lance's shots go wide for the moment.

Then he blinks, looking between Shiro and Pidge. "He's right. If no one takes the controls, we're going to crash. Pidge, you know how this memory should go. Do what you need to." She's the only one Shiro's noticed, likely because she belongs in this memory and he noticed that light of recognition. Help Futaba and Adrien. He and Castor can help assist Shiro and Matt. "Lance and I'll cover you." And then he slams his shield into Ezor one more time, and uses it as leverage to propel himself backward. Because something snapped and he's realized it. They need to wake up Shiro. They have to. Focus!
"Shiro. You know how this memory ends, too." He says, trying to reach out to him again. "You helped me out of mine. Remember the Dream Width? Vaikuntha? The others here?" Please, notice them. Notice what's wrong about this memory.

While Shiro might only process Pidge's presence, the fact the memory has already adapted to deal with their presence had to be a subconscious realization they were there. If not, Adrien would not be in this fist fight with this person right now in Zero G. And of course there goes the chair.
Was someone going to be able to get control of this ship? This woman's strikes were quick and he could not promise being able to keep up just on defense if the memory went on for too long!

Okay so maybe using all four limbs in a grapple with no gravity wasn't such a great idea, as Castor struggles to keep a hold on Zethrid, trying to maneuver her way up into getting the large alien into a sleeper hold.
"Jes....settle down ye damn cat...!"

She looked over at the sound of Keith's voice, and nodded. "You're right. I remember." She couldn't help wondering, just for a moment, what would happen to them if they crashed in here. This had already happened. They'd gotten her dad back and things were as alright as they could be. She wasn't terribly eager to find out for herself, though.
The empty chair was her new target, and she let the hook fly before she could second guess it. "We already did this, Shiro! Remember?" She'd just have to hope she could catch herself before she slammed into the back of that chair, otherwise this was going to suck. "You're the one that helped me bust out of my memory when I got here. Remember the news report? They said it was a pilot error! You told me Iverson never wanted you on the mission in the first place!"
Technically, that had just been an idle comment. But she'd heard it. And if it worked, she wasn't going to quibble over technicalities.

"If you're remembering this now, you already know what happens. You know we get the commander out okay! You know he goes back to Earth!" He grits his teeth, trying to focus. To take a deep breath and steady himself. If they can get Shiro to notice how Wrong everything is, that's their best bet. Memories can only go so far. "And you have to know this isn't how this fight went down! I wasn't here! I was in Red, and Keith wasn't here either."
He aims for Zethrid - biggest target, biggest threat - (even though a 13 is probably still a miss gg) hoping to at least distract her enough for Castor to get a good hit in. Ending the fight will...Well. It won't hurt.

So uh. Plan B. Rotating in Zero G is relatively easy at least.
"So uh, we really won't need to worry about if this crashes or not if we just... get out of here. C'mon Shiro, I know you don't like the Dream Width any more than I do!"
Probably less, from what little she's seen. She doesn't have any deep, heartfelt moments like with Ren, points of obvious deep connection like Kanji, nor shocking world secrets she shouldn't know like Naoto. But uh. She has this at least?

Now he can see more than just Pidge, Sam, and Matt. Lance crouched and aiming. People unfamiliar to him, and Keith, older looking and wearing armor he hasn't seen in a while. Then he remembers. "What. Wait. What are you all doing here? How-"
The memory flickers like static. Abruptly there's a timeless expanse and the ground speeding by as the memory's owner charges at the red armored figure with blazing purple eyes. He's so much larger but the fight has to be.
The Black Lion looms overhead, a silent observer to the proceeding.
"You could never take my place as the head of Voltron!" The voice echoes as each strike is made and blocked or deflected. The hand is caught and pain flashes from the hand all the way up the arm. Shiro cries out and is sent flying with a solid kick to the chest.
Back into the present memory. He rubs at his chest, hissing at the remembered pain. "No, I don't like the Dream Width. But how did I get back out here? I went outside for a bit of air. That's the last I remember." He looks around at the people and swears. "Someone get the controls! Or this memory will loop."

Seeing Shiro fighting Zarkon within Black's consciousness, seeing a glimpse of their predecessor wipe the floor with him nearly causes his instincts to take over. Yet it's through Shiro's eyes. He can feel every strike, every attack until it snaps back to the present memory.
His pupils are pinpricks as he rests a hand on his chest, stunned until he hears Shiro's voice again. He grits his teeth, forcing himself to focus on it later. There's something far more important to deal with right now.
"We don't know, but we're here to get you out." His gaze turns to the front of the ship and the controls. He'll think about how this is one of the clone's memories but he remembers Vaikuntha later. Right now, their survival takes priority. His eyes narrow as he kicks off a crate nearby, using his jetpack to push himself towards the front of the controls (20). His bayard remains at the ready until he reaches the pilot's seat, and if successful, he'll take them in both his hands and pull back as hard as he can (15).

... Wait, Keith was at the pilot seat and pulling to bring the ship back up to level.
Knees bent, hands splayed, he lands on all fours - almost like a cat - as their gravity situation is corrected. Only once they're more sure that he doesn't need to brace himself will he move towards Holt, but he'll at least watch for any other crates or projectiles that might move in his direction.
I rolled....poorly.
"Agh! Warn a lass!" She gasps out when her breath comes back to her, "An' someone get this overgrown Miqo'te off me!"
no subject
"I have to agree with her!" He's almost thrown by a box hitting him, but with a pretty decent 17, he takes aim at Zethrid again and fires. "We don't have much time and it doesn't seem like anybody cares!"
Anybody as in the generals. God, they're the worst.

Seeing Keith go for the controls though (and seeing his example), she realizes what's going on in time to find a bit of debris substantial enough to kick off of, and this time to properly latch onto one of the chairs. Which means she has something to brace herself with as shifts violently. Not enough to prevent a few bruises but... well. Enough. Ugh she was gonna be sick after this was over.
As soon as she feels safe to move she launches herself over to where Keith has the controls, turning to face the room and everyone else in it. She's still powerless, Adrien's getting to Commander Holt. At least she could help Keith focus on making sure they didn't crash.
"I think we may be almost out of here, but I'll warn for any interruptions."
1 (and then a 3 hahah)
Once that was accomplished, she turned to propel herself toward where her father was sitting... only for the gravity to come back in that exact moment. Caught off guard, she tumbled to the floor in a graceless heap. "Quiznak," she muttered, picking herself up just as quickly and finally moving toward her father. At least there was no possible way for her to mess that up.

The soldier brings the rifle up and fires it. Behind them, a sentry falls over. Shiro peers back the way they came as a sentry falls over. They stare. He faces the sentries at the other end and activates his hand, the deadly hum resonating in the air. He dispatches one machine and the soldier rises, grabbing the sentry and flinging it bodily into the others.
He can't hold back his irritation. "I thought you said you traveled around the galaxy. I mean, you fly a spaceship." Shiro grabs the gun and rights it. "How could you possibly not know how to hold this correctly?"
It fades away as Shiro shakes his head his legs and arms wrapped around a pole along the side of the shuttle. The Generals ended up at the back, while Sam smiled at his daughter and gathered her in a hug. "Katie."
Shiro's face softens and he waits a few minutes before he opens his eyes in the Dream width. His eyes are barely open as he drifts, clad in the same coat, t-shirt, and pants he'd been in when he vanished. His right arm is missing and his hair is shockingly white. He peers at them all and leans into Keith. "You found me."

Then the dream changes, and he stares in surprise. Allura. He'd recognize her anywhere, even when transformed in order to blend in. It's hard not to share the irritation, and yet-

Keith opens the back of the ship with the press of his palm on a pad so the others could kick the generals out; let the Holts have their moment.
It won't be long before the memories fade and they are floating in the space of the Dream Width once more. He ducks underneath Shiro's remaining arm and wraps one of his own around his best friend's waist; he holds on tight. "As many times as it takes," he replies, grasping his tether with his free hand. "Everyone, back to the airship. Futaba, Adrien, get some blankets and pillows from the infirmary and bring them to the lounge."
They'll want to remain by the scanning equipment to look for Hunk while they rest. He looks to Lance with a nod before beginning to pull on his tether to tug him and Shiro back toward the ship.

And they're just in the Dream Width. They've saved Shiro. Suddenly, he feels lighter than air. Now all they need to do is find Hunk, and - and it'll truly be okay.
(If his chest goes tight again, and if his stomach sinks, when he sees Shiro's white, white hair and the remains of his arm, nobody else needs to know. Nobody else probably even notices.
If anyone can see anything but the way Keith and Shiro are, anyways.)
He returns Keith's nod, dragging himself back to the ship so he can get the door open and ready to help Keith in. He doesn't believe he'll be letting go of Shiro any time soon, but he still wants to help. "Need me to do anything, Keith?"
Deferring to the leader - it's become almost second nature, by now.

"Help me get Shiro back inside." He remembers how quickly Shiro started to fade back home before they got him back into the Altean healing pod, and the look in his eyes likely says it all. "And, if anyone has a healer asterisk... Shiro's gonna need it."
no subject
Unless one of the others also had a healer class.
no subject
Adrien doesn't have any skills in healing besides probably some hands-on first aid. Nothing for a situation like this - and he doesn't think he'd do any real healing in the future either. Anyway, with a nod, he'll head back to hurry to the infirmary. Blankets and pillows, blankets and pillows...
