A. Curti Center, April 30th

[Ganeshan is a good guy, something Okuyasu decides the instant he returns to the island where his new home lies. The trip had given him two Asterisks, free food, and a backpack full of trinkets, plus other bags from the freebie tables that are holding school supplies consisting of small notebooks and pencils found on the ground. A most excellent haul.

Immediately after landing, he is notified that Biggs and Wedge found an item in the Dream Width matching his personal frequency. Before Okuyasu can respond with a "what the hell does that mean", an intern holds up a potted plant. On closer look, the flower appears to be thrashing around, and upon closer inspection, it's hissing like a cat. Actually, it looks a lot like a cat.]

Oh, shit!

[Okuyasu makes a quick grab for the plant and scratches behind the petals that constitutes as its ears. The plant calms down in the presence of a familiar face, but it's still growling at the general situation.

Okuyasu, on the other hand, is panicking.] Are Biggs and Wedge okay? Are they in the hospital? [Is that why they're not here to personally deliver the cat plant?] I'm sorry if Stray Cat hurt anyone!

[The intern is confused.]

B. House B-09, May 1st - 2nd

[So whatever took Okuyasu's Stand away also took Stray Cat's, but left enough power to allow it to exist. That's fine. No one will die horribly considering Okuyasu's lost the ability to erase its air bubbles from existence. Now they're stuck with an pet that acts like a normal cat when upset.

He has it standing on the front steps of the house while he sits beside it, enjoying the sunny weather and watching it attempt to preen itself. Silly cat. He dangles a piece of wheat over its face and watches it bat at it, one cheek propped on his hand.]

I thought you were supposed to be lookin' after Pops...

[Stray Cat huffs at its lack of claws. It closes its eyes as its petals compresses the air inside and shoots it out in a quick, small gust. The head of wheat snaps, but it doesn't break off the stem. Stray Cat repeatedly shoots air out from its "head", frustrated that it lost the ability to utterly murder whatever it wants.]

[Okuyasu hums loudly in agreement and plants his hands on his legs, giving Ena a firm nod.]

Plants can't even think. It's impossible for a flower to make cat noises and eat cat food and take cat naps, unless it's a cat! A person actin' like a cat's just a nutcase.

[rivieran]

I suppose so, but... I don't know, I think I would classify it more as a plant than a cat, because regardless of how it acts, it still looks like a plant, and it's even potted! You don't put cats in pots, do you? [ At least the cats she's seen have never been held in pots! ]

[righthandstand]

[Cats love sitting in pots, but that's a different story.]

Yeah, but if you leave it in the sun for a day, it gets hungry. So it looks like a plant, but doesn't act like one. [It's confusing.] I try not to think about it too hard, else my brain hurts.

[rivieran]

Yeah... [ Now that he mentions it - Ena presses a finger to the spot between her eyebrows and closes her eyes. ] Good idea.

[ She's still mulling over whether it's a cat or a plant for a few more moments though, until she remembers why she stopped to talk to him in the first place. Her gaze snaps back up to him, a slight frown present on her face. ] Wait. Do you live here?

[righthandstand]

[He sits up straight, offended.]

Of course I do! I know better than to hang around other people's houses for no reason.

[He's not friends with everyone in Hunk's house, so it's not a good loitering spot as compared to, say, behind the convenience store.]

[rivieran]

Oh. [ She seems genuinely surprised at this fact. She shoots a quick glance at her own house next door before looking back to Okuyasu. ]

Really? [ ... ] It seems we're neighbors.

[righthandstand]

Huh?

[He turns to where she's facing.]

You live right there? [There's a sudden change in this demeanor. Okuyasu forgot what he was upset about, and is now curious about all these sudden neighbors.] That's kinda neat.

[rivieran]

Neat? [ She'd heard Jehu use that word before. He was an old man. This was an old man word. Odd to see this young man using it, but, okay. Thought over. She raises an eyebrow. ]

I suppose it is "neat," but... I don't know. I'm a little surprised to see that we're neighbors, of all things. I don't know why. It was the last thing I expected. You don't live alone, do you?

[righthandstand]

[Okuyasu sounds a little like an old man - that is, if the raspy deep voice throws Ena off his actual age, though his emotional maturity spoils that he's a 16 year old.]

Huh...we shouldn't be surprised since all us new people are crammed into this one spot on the island. I got two adults livin' with me, so if each house is big as mine, we're all kind of neighbors if it takes only a few minutes to meet.

[rivieran]

Indeed, a bit silly I asked, really, but there are still quite a number of houses... [ Ena nods, contemplating a bit. ] I'm glad to hear you have adults living with you, though. [ Her definition of adult being "someone more mature to make sure Okuyasu doesn't get into trouble", and the tone in her voice might suggest it's a slight towards him. ] Might I ask who they are? [ Maybe there were more surprise neighbors. ]

[righthandstand]

Just Sparks Nevada [ugh] and Toneido-san.

[They are more like other tenants to Okuyasu than adults taking care of him. He doesn't expect people living with him to put much work in supporting him, but it's nice to have housemates that help around the house.]

It's no big deal. What about you? You got adults in there? [He jerks his head towards the house.]
