[She'd been fine before, but she couldn't help feeling a little nervous once he'd taken the notebook. Why was this so hard? Maybe because she'd never really done this before. Or maybe because she'd just sort of started writing and ended up with a very obvious tribute to Adrien. Oops.]

You like it? I uh... I'm not very good at this kind of thing!

I don't...really like it, no.

[How's that for fumbling through a conversation? He sets the notebook down on the table and slides it back to her. He's careful not to touch it with his claws too hard—he doesn't want to make marks in her work.]

Ah, I mean...it's not really for me to like. This is a poem about someone you like. I understand it just fine.

That's okay.

[And not at all unexpected, if she was being completely honest. So she'll just be taking the notebook back with an amused chuckle.]

You're right! [And he had a point, she supposed.] Do you think he'd like it?

[Because Dylas certainly seems like the right person to ask for this sort of advice!]

I, uh...

[He stammers a lot. He's never been great with picking his words. But when there's a lovesick teenager sitting across from him, he has to be extra careful to pick his words, right? He's a monster. Literally. But like he told Snow White, he can't be that much of a monster.

Dammit. Kids like Marinette are making him turn soft.]

...once upon a time, if someone wrote something like that for me, I'd...probably have liked it. So...yeah. Maybe.

[She wasn't really sure if she was looking for an honest answer or if she just wanted someone to tell her that her poem was okay.]

You wouldn't like something like that now?

[Why, yes, that's the part she's going to focus on first.]

Huh?

[That's the first sound he makes, because, seriously, why did she pick up on that line of all things? He scratches his neck again, sharp nails meeting a patch of scales.]

Of course not. Monsters don't care about...anything like what you just wrote.

[She couldn't even say for sure why that was what she chose to focus on first, but there it was.

And he didn't seem entirely convinced by his own words, did he?
]

You don't sound so sure about that. [Her smile is kind, though.] But that's okay! Not everyone likes poetry.

Nope. I'm sure. It's just weird to talk about, alright?

[He scoffs, trying to play it off by changing the subject.]

Poetry isn't bad all the time. It depends on who's writing it. I've read poems so pretentious that they make yours look like a literary masterpiece.

[Well, if he was going to be that way, she couldn't really argue.]

Okay! And yea, I get it.

[Not everyone liked the same things, and that was fine. Even Marinette herself hadn't yet decided how she felt about poetry, and here she was, sharing a poem anyway.]

That makes sense. [She just smiled at that.] Are you saying mine wasn't the worst thing you've ever read? [That was actually sort of comforting. Maybe.]
