( rutile had only truly been introduced to music and song when they'd arrived here on this planet. it was nothing like the empty motions and the unheard sounds the lunarians made their attacks to. and the words, as they listened carefully... stirred something within them.

made them think of the motionless padparadscha, whose head had been laid down for... how many centuries, now? )

A lullaby... ( they're more focused on anything other than making eye contact at the moment, while these thoughts consume them. ) This is what you sing to someone that sleeps?

To help them fall asleep, certainly. A lullaby is meant to soothe and draw a listener in, pushing out any thoughts and distractions that may be keeping them awake.

Unfortunately, said songs tend to be reserved for young children, though I believe anyone ought to enjoy something sung to them to help them rest regardless of age... wouldn't you agree?

To help them fall asleep... ( unfortunately, that's the opposite problem rutile's partner suffers from. when it came to pushing out thoughts and distractions though, that sounded much more like something they themselves might be able to benefit from. hmm... )

After a certain number of centuries, age becomes rather irrelevant, anyway. ( which is, apparently, their way of agreeing. )

Tell me, are there many lullabies where you come from?

Oh, a number, spanning over many languages as many mothers of different races ease their children to sleep. However, depending on the race, you'll find they're less sweet and more 'if you sleep you can destroy an enemy den tomorrow at full strength' or 'if you rest you can eat the most nightmares', that sort of thing.

I'm afraid I don't know of my examples, however. It's only what I've heard from others who understand the respective languages.

Oh? ( they seem to perk especially at the mention of those... less than wholesome sort of songs. ) Would you happen to have at least one example of one of these... melodies— ( was that right? ) that would destroy an enemy onslaught come morning? Something like that sounds quite useful, actually.

( much more useful than a song to put asleep someone that hardly ever got the chance... or someone that did nothing but. ) I wasn't aware nightmares could be used in exchange for calories however, hmm.

( they're... taking this rather literally, it seems. )

Dendar, a great serpent, feeds on nightmares. She is the reason we all rest peacefully and do not remember our more horrific nightmares.

As for a song of enemy onslaughts... hmm. Perhaps you ought ask the Berserker's Guild. They may have such songs.

Fascinating. I will have to try and catch sight of this great serpent next time. It's the first time I've heard of any such creature. I wonder if some of the others have seen it...

Thank you for the information. I will try to make good use of it.
