What It's a Special Day for your local Queen!
Warnings/Notes Please feel free to post your own top-levels! Food(?), beverages and... books? Are here for everyone to enjoy during the get-together! Just... don't touch the books unless your hands are clean. (We don't want to cause a scene. Yet.)
When you walk into the quaint looking café, maybe the scene that greets you wasn't exactly what you were expecting. Not the soft music overhead or the smell of old and new books that line the shelves... that's all pretty standard seeming. It's the makeshift banner that looks as though it was put together in a manner of minutes reading, “ℋAPPY ℬIRTHDAY ℳAKOTO—” that looks rather out of place.
There are a few tables lined with some food and drink, water, juice, tea and coffee— just the basics really. Only a little further down are some baked goods that could easily be mistaken for delicious cupcakes. Unfortunately, on such short notice and even shorter funds... the only thing Ren could come up with were some Kupo-Nut Cakes... if you're willing to try one though, you may just find yourself with a Guts +1 boost.
Well, at least the coffee seems decent.

[Looking over everything she can see two things: one, that they put a lot of effort into it, and two, that their best efforts was charmingly amateur. Paper napkin confetti? In the end, though, everything added together to a greater whole.]
[She wouldn't have it any other way.]
I... was not expecting this. We're so far away from home. I didn't think anybody would remember. You two really did a lot for my sake.

Eh, don't worry about it.
[ It was actually a lot of fun, and seeing Makoto happy, much happier than she even would have realized... well. It makes a lot of things worth it. Given how bumpy a ride it's been for all of them here, in different ways. ]

as his hands find their way back to his pockets again, he turns to makoto once more. there's a small dip in his head, maybe a little surprised by the tears that seemed to have crested in her eyes, but not wanting to draw too much attention to it either... sae niijima was the only family she had— and that woman worked herself to the bone.
it seems... this meant more to makoto than he originall thought.

Instead of saying anything, why don't we just enjoy the rest of the afternoon together? ( but as their usual way to celebrate tended to involve gorging themselves... ) I, uh... am not sure about the food though.
( that's about the time he reaches to scratch at the back of his head. so in light of that... ) How about some coffee?

Coffee sounds great. Almost, nostalgic, really. It makes me think of the folks that aren't quite here yet. Its funny, though, I don't remember you ever baking. Did it... come out okay?
[As she settles, she finds herself admiring the sheer amount of work they did. Really, they went all out. How long were they preparing this? They coudln't have more than a few days, surely...] Still, I can't think of the last time that I had a big birthday like this. I think I must have been a little girl.

She shakes her head briefly. Now was really not the time for those kind of depressing thoughts. Still, there's a note of understanding on the smile on her face ]
Well, you got one this time! We'll just have to tell the others off for being late when they get here.
[ She misses the rest of the gang too. Even Inari. ]

The only flavour they had left was Kupo Nut... ( and honestly, after his encounter with the butter— ) It's not exactly tasty for those of us without a pom-pom. ( he jokes, pouring each one of them a full cup. ) Everyone else might be glad they missed it.
But this— ( he sets down his pot, serving a cup to the two ladies and smiling all the while— feeling at home in a moment like this regardless of their surroundings. ) I did make myself.

[She gladly takes a sip before setting it down.]
Oh, I see. You know I heard from quite a few sources that kupo nuts didn't taste very good, but how bad could it be if a bakery is using them?
[Confidently she picked one up. This was her party right? But she wasn't about to pull an Akechi and go all in on one. Instead she took her fingers and broke off a little piece, looked at it carefully, and put it in her mouth.]
[She instantly regretted it. The look was palpable on her face.]

But when she open her eyes again and sees Makoto- well, thankfully she hadn't actually taken a sip of that coffee yet, or it probably would have gone flying. ]

and he leans forward, placing his coffee back down again. his head is bowed in what looks like a moment of silence...
until his shoulders start to shake.
a hand clamps down on his mouth, but it isn't enough, what starts out as muffled snickering erupts into full blown laughter as he casts his head up and back again.

[Hoping to regain at least a little bit of her dignity, she took a glass of water to her lips and took a dainty sip from it. While pushing down the urge to gargle and spit.]

Well, we're all still in one piece, despite all the weird stuff.
[ And in her case not... hiding in a corner of the room while trying to avoid being noticed by as many people as possible?? It's progress. ]

And also— we're together. ( as he raises his cup, he turns to futaba with a gentle smile, glad that she was there to navigate them through this strange world as she had so many times in the metaverse...
then turned to makoto with a softening look, confident that thanks to her, the strategies and plans that they'd have to employ with her help would be calculated and careful.
ren amamiya— the young man of few words, but with a single look that spoke volumes about them... about his team mates. his family. )

[Small words and small gestures that meant the world to the ones who know what they meant. A mug was lifted aloft -- alone for but a moment, but no doubt will be soon met with others to share the moment together.]
