One Cup-o-Kawhee, please!

July 3rd
Continuation from Network:

Ignis takes away the slate from his Moogle and sighs loudly. "Please focus on cleaning," he asks Ebony who, in return, salutes him like a soldier and then flies off to the kitchen where the magic will happen in the future. There are boxes of ingredients to be put away, knives and rolling pins arranged in their proper places.

He leaves the slate aside and leans against the bar, rubbing the back of his neck. Was it smart to open a coffee shop like this? Sure, it will be a decent amount of income for the household, but, in the long run... when he eventually goes back to Eos, he will have to leave it behind.

Perhaps he will find someone to leave it to.

Leaving those thoughts in the back of his mind, he pushes away from the bar and picks up the box he previously placed on it. Just in time to hear the small jingle of the bell.

"Apologies, we're not open yet."

July 5th
Opening Day:

In front of the shop, there is a nice, big sign that says:

"Opening day!
First Cup-of-Kawhee 75% off the price!"

Ignis doesn't appear to be nervous, dressed in his barista outfit, standing behind the bar. But he never appears to be nervous, even when the situation is really stressful. He places a cup down for a customer who thanks him and takes a seat at one of the small tables littered around the coffee shop.

Deep breaths, Scientia.

Ebony is floating from table to table, wiping the surfaces, then floats back to the pastry and cake displays to wipe them as well. This time, the displays are showing off plenty of pastries and the cake display holds the "cake of the day"- =Blueberry Days=.

The jingle of the bell announces that someone entered the shop and Ebony is off already, greeting them!

One day he will teach his Moogle not to scare away his customers.

Rest of July
1)Any other day:

The coffee shop opens exactly at 8 AM every day except on Saturday when it opens at 9 AM, and Sunday, when it is a free day. Ignis is at the shop from 6 AM, making sure that the cake and pastries are ready for the sale, fresh and warm for the first customers.

Ebony is always in good spirits and does his best to help Ignis out in the kitchen. The Moogle can't cook, but he's quite adept at cleaning up, which saves Ignis a lot of work.

Throughout the day, Ignis manages the bar and when there aren't customers, he's looking at his slate and inbox, hoping to see if there is anyone interested in the job offers he placed the other day- a waiter and a barista/cashier. He wishes he could do all by himself but he can't cook and be in the front at the same time.

Ebony paused in his excited floating, the word 'Grace' seemed to catch his attention. Spending time with Ignis and him addressing Noct as 'Highness' from time to time got him to be a bit more... careful. Titles are important, after all.

And scary. And Ebony is trying his best not to just duck behind the bar as Ignis gives his full attention to the arrivals.

"Good afternoon," Ignis greets with a light bow. "How may I help you today?"

"Ah, I came to your establishment to try the coffee," said Nanamo with a polite curtsy. "I would very much like to try some of your drinks if that is all right. My coin is good for this world."

"Of course. Would you like to take it with you or drink it here?"

Ignis is equipped for both- he knows how important it is to have coffee on the go.

For the moment, Nanamo considered the options before saying, "Here. I will drink it here."

She was quite an adept gourmand, if by habit, not by job. And she wanted to sample his wares and give him his opinion. "Can I find a chair?"

Ebony now cuts in since Ignis moves to prepare coffee.

"Where would you like to sit? At the bar? Next to a window? A booth?" Ebony floats around the shop, showing the spots, and Ignis feels lucky that there aren't many customers.

"Next to a window please," said Nanamo as Papashan nodded.

"Table for two if you will," added Papashan as they gestured towards a nice window seat.

Ebony is already on it, making sure the chair is pulled out and there are no stray petals from flowers Gladio brought in the morning.

"Iggy will be with you in a second!"

And indeed, he is. Carrying two cups of coffee, with side biscuits of course, for both the Moogle and Nanamo, and places the drinks in front of them.

Nanamo smiled, breathing in the smell of the coffee with a deep delighted noise. "It smells divine," she said, taking her cup and taking a sip."

A long pause followed before she exclaimed, "It has rich tones, subtle flavors that mingle together. The cream compliments the fullness of the drink, and the bitter taste is muted with the soft note of caramel. In short, an incredible experience. You have outdone yourself Master Ignis."

That is an array of compliments Ignis didn't expect to hear. Sure people told him his cooking and coffee brewing was really good but- to hear it from another person who seems into the hobby as much as he is- that's entirely different.

"Ah, thank you very much. But don't say I've outdone myself just yet," he says with a small smile. "I have just opened the shop. Hopefully, I will prepare you a better cup in the future."

"I look forward to it. I'm quite a gourmand of sorts, not the job mind you but the delicious taste is fascinating. This is coffee correct? I have never quite tasted something like this before." said Nanamo.

"Yes, it is coffee. There are different types and different blends. Of course, I could serve you a strong, black coffee if you prefer." He's trying to keep as different blends of coffee as he can, but he's not overdoing it.

[nanaimo_bar]

"A trial of tastes. It would sound like an ideal decision," said Nanamo thoughtfully. "However, I am led to believe that it also has stimulating effects if imbibed too much?"

"It depends from person to person," Ignis hums. "Some people can't tolerate caffeine so even a single cup can keep them wired up and awake for long times. Other people don't feel any effects at all, which is why they drink cups upon cups."

[nanaimo_bar]

"I see. I have experienced this once before with too much tea, when I was busy with paperwork. However, I can dare say that I enjoy the taste of your coffee very much." said Nanamo. "I simply must try one more for the road. Does it need to be all drunk hot might I inquire?"

"I suppose it can happen with tea as well, especially with the strong types. But coffee, true to its name, has way more caffeine." Ignis shakes his head:"It depends on the type. The type you are having is best drank warm. But for the road, I could prepare you an iced coffee."

[nanaimo_bar]

"Iced. As by the name, a freezing process or ice cubes are used?" asked Nanamo curiously. "Yes, I will go with that."

"We use ice cubes. Freezing coffee entirely would just water it down a lot," Ignis explains. Then nods, "I will have your coffee ready before you leave."

"Thank you, I will continue to enjoy your coffee you prepared for me," said Nanamo with a grateful smile.

"Thank you for your patronage," Ignis smiles and gives her a small bow before heading back behind the bar. He nods at Ebony who tilts head at him. Ignis nudges small plate with a berry tart. The moogle lights up, grabs the plate and floats over to Nanamo.

"Berried Days tart! On the house! Please enjoy, kupo!"

Ignis clears his throat:"Ebony, stop pestering the customers. Take care of the dishes, please," Ignis nods at the door to the kitchen and the moogle is gone in a flash.

Nanamo giggled and Papashan smiled. "Your friend is an enthusiastic young one that is."

Taking up a fork and knife, she cut into the tart, admiring the glow of the berries as they glimmered, the texture glistening with fresh baked goodness. Taking a bite of her food, she took a moment to savor it. "Rich, full and yet not overwhelming. The subtle blend of fruit together makes for a complete whole. Truly, a tart of tarts."

"That he is," Ignis confirms with a smile. Too enthusiastic in some other people's opinions.

That's... a very detailed description of the tart. She said she's a gourmand, of sorts, but this type of knowledge doesn't come from just being curious about trying new food.

"Thank you for the compliment. I am very happy to hear you enjoy it." He's made a lot of tarts and pastries in the past hoping to make THE one that Noct's always talking about. One day though, one day.

"Do you mind if I ask- is baking your hobby?"

"Nay, baking is not my hobby. Although I have begun to learn how to do so to provide meals for myself."

She gestured at the tart and added, "Back home, I am present for many a meal at the Bismark, Limsa Lominsa's top culinary restaurant for many an occasion. I consider myself to be one of the toughest critics of all manner of food, and have judged many a competition. I can say for certainty that your food is top notch Master Ignis."

A food critic? It's just Ignis' luck to have a critic on the first day he opens the shop. Well, at least she enjoyed both the coffee and the tart.

"Then I'm happy you enjoyed the food. I mostly cook for my friends so to hear that other people also find it tasty is a very big compliment for me."

It was, but at the same time, Nanamo wanted to experience top quality food after all, so she went there with a smile.

"It was pleasant, a delightful blend of tastes to enjoy. Your friends must be very delighted to have such a wonderful cook on hand."
