Who: All New Arrivals and Curti Center Staff

Where: All over Vaikuntha, starting outside of the airship hanger
What: Ganeshan, the resident Job Expert, will be taking the new arrivals around the the various Guilds so they can collect their chosen Job Asterisks as noted in their applications.

Enter the Master

[Each new arrival's iMog buzzes with a message instructing them to gather for a worldwide adventure to obtain the power of Vaikuntha. If they follow the invitation's instructions, they will arrive at outside of the airship hanger on the morning of the 15th, with their meager belongings packed.

An Enterprise-Class airship, the Ragnarok, hovers outside of the Curti Center. There is a flash of light on the top of the ship.]

"WELCOME!"

[A figure, minuscule at this distance, launches itself off of the ship and hurtles toward the ground. As he draws closer to the ground, he starts to flip, landing with a flourish. An armored figure, sans helm, turns his toothy Zora grin to the crowd. With a shimmer, his armor transforms into a white mage's robe, and he sends a rush of wind through the crowd for dramatic effect.]

"I AM GANESHAN, THE JOB MASTER! GYA HA HA HA! TODAY, YOUR LIVES WILL CHANGE FOREVER."

[Ganeshan shimmers again, ruthlessly abusing the Chemist's Modifier skill to once again shift Job Classes so he can lower the airship's loading dock with a wave of his hand.]

"I BELIEVE THAT EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU HAS THE ABILITY TO MASTER THE JOB CLASSES. SOME OF YOU MAY MASTER MANY, OTHERS WILL PURSUE THE PERFECT MASTERY OF JUST ONE. BUT EITHER WAY, YOU'LL BE INCREDIBLE!"

[Ganeshan gives everyone a big thumbs-up. The out-worlders who are not scared off by this booming speech can feel free to enter the airship and prepare for their ride around the world. Hopefully some of the Curti Center's newest hires can serve as ~~non-crazy~~ less exuberant tour guides for the new arrivals.]

Around the World

[The Ragnarok will be stopping at every major city in Vaikuntha, with the exception of those cut off by the Imperial border closing. Characters can create top levels to respond to the Guild prompts and explore the cities themselves as the ship makes its stops. Each Guild provides information sessions, free food and trinkets for potential applicants, and once you're ready to receive your Asterisk, all you have to do is take some introductory lessons and fill out forms. Characters can receive up to two asterisks. Time to get to know your new world!

[ Or will be at any rate. ]

There was a war, you see. After that it takes a bit of time for any region to bounce back.

Ah... [Her hands grips the hem of her skirt as she thinks about that. She hated the uncertainty that this could be her country's future. And yet despite the fact that they were two different events the fact remained that the place they were talking about was her home.]

[But... then there was also the fact that she invited him here. This was her offering of gratitude.]

Thank you for letting me know. I can only pray that my people--that the recovery heals.

[She stays in awkward silence for a moment, trying not to think to hard on what was said.]

Um... how is your coffee?

[She had not taken even a sip of hers.]

[ Lelouch takes a few drinks from his cup. ]

You likely don't have to worry about it. We're probably from different worlds. But I am confident it will all work out.

[ And offers a ~~fake~~ reassuring smile. ]

As for the coffee... I've had worse.

[Makoto head tilts at the comment. Was he trying to console her?]

You're right, but I still find myself worrying. I appreciate your concern, though.

You know, its strange. Even though we're all supposed to come from many different places, it seems like Japan comes up an awful lot. [Was there a reason for that?] Ah, but I have been a little rude. I've been so caught up talking about where I'm from but I haven't heard much where you are from, um... Lalarogue-san?

...no that's not right.

Lelouch. [ And yeah he might have been trying to console her. Be it because dealing with someone that's depressed is troublesome or because he actually is a little concerned... Well. Either one is probably accurate. ] Though many of my friends just called me Lulu.

[ If it's easier on her, anyway. It might hurt him to hear it again. He feels so far removed from his friends. ]

Where I'm from isn't all that interesting. The best parts of my life were spent in Japan. I find it curious that the country seems to be a focal point of many universes. Wonder why....

Lelouch, then. Perhaps someday I will call you Lulu, but I would like to take more time to get to know you better.

[It felt more like a family name anyway.]

I would still like to hear a little about it if you don't mind sharing. I can decide for myself it was interesting or not.

[ He takes a few more drinks from his cup. Thoughtful. What can he say that wouldn't necessarily give away too many personal details... ]

The Holy Britannian Empire is a rather large place. My family is from the homeland, located on the North American continent. Pendragon is the capitol. Naturally that's where the Imperial family and the Emperor reside. Nobility grants you a lot in life and is the top tier in the societal rung. Next would be common Britannians followed by Honorary Britannians... The lowest are the Numbers.

Oh. You really do come from a different world.

[And a frightful one at that, it would seem. With the way he made it sound a certain other politician would approve of that sort of governance.]

I think I understand when you said they were not happy memories. You... don't have to continue if you don't want.

[ In return, Lelouch gives a polite, apologetic smile. ]

I did try to warn you... You see, my sister and I were sent to Japan. Partially as a punishment, but my parents also claimed it was for our own protection.

[ He waves it off. ]

So I really do consider Japan to be more of a home than Britannia.

I see.

[Her eyes drift to her coffee.]

I have a sister too. I wonder about her sometimes.

I'm sure she'll be okay without me. By now I would be heading toward college.

Older? Younger?

[ A safer topic at last. ]

Ah, older. Seven years. [Its nice, but worrying too. The more she talks about her sister the more she is worried that she isn't here. In her heart of hearts she knows that's for own self-assurance more than anything.]

She's was a prosecuting attorney for about five years. Before coming here she was starting to think about going in a new direction, however.

Oh, and I suppose I should have prefaced that I picked up a few of my questioning techniques from her. Its become a bit of a bad habit, really.

And yourself? You mentioned a sister?

Quite the age difference. Do you two get along well?

[ Prosecuting attorney. Prestigious position that. Makoto's sister must be a sharp one. Though from the looks of it Makoto's even admitting that her sister is rubbing off on her. Best to be careful, then. Wouldn't want to give away too many personal things about himself that could raise too many questions. ]

You must look up to her. Or admire her at the very least.

[ Then Makoto asks him about his own... He shifts, pretending to be a bit uncomfortable with the questioning. ]

Nunnally is my only true sister. She turned fifteen this year. Unfortunately, she can't walk. Sweetest and kindest person you'll meet.

[ He clears his throat because there is at least another. Makoto will come across her eventually. It'd be better to at least... ]

My family isn't conventional. I have quite a few half siblings.

Yes. I am indebted to her. When our father died she was the only person I could turn to. I owe her more than I could ever say out loud.

[Despite their difference she had nothing but admiration and respect for her sister. Most of her life was spent trying to make the burden of taking care of her easier.]

Ah, she sounds really nice. It sounds like you are close as well.

[She pauses, raising the coffee to her lips.] Your family does sound pretty complicated: being forced to leave your country in such a strict hierarchy and multiple half-siblings. Your family must be pretty influential.

[No judgement just matter-of-fact observation.]

I imagine she'd still like to hear it. Though I assure you that all that she does for you is out of love and a desire to protect you or keep you safe.

[ As an older sibling taking care of a younger one... Lelouch can only speculate that this is the case. He can't rightfully imagine siblings NOT having love for each other. Look at Cornelia and Euphy. ]

We are close and more alike that I'd care to admit. [ Then a chuckle. ] And I wish my family wasn't complicated. My sister just wanted a peaceful world where we could just live in peace.

[ But not confirming or denying her observations. ]

If I may ask, what is it that your father did?

[Makoto isn't surprised when he doesn't address her observation. She speculates that may have something to do with his secrecy and further recognizes that as something that he didn't really want to get into anyway. Or, that was one possibility anyway. Still, since that had more to do with where he came from and had less to do with why they are here she doesn't really see any reason to press the issue.]

That's the dream, isn't it? Though the reality achieving that goal is a very hard thing to do.

I would know that very well; my father was a detective.

[And she has stories even not considering her Phantom Thief ones.]

[ The truth is, Lelouch might not mind discussing some of it. However, the more people that knew such details then that puts him at higher risk. He isn't willing to allow that to happen. ]

We're close to it, back home. All of the fighting has ceased at any rate.

[ Because Lelouch forced them to. By taking it all. Being alive kind of puts a damper on those plans. But being removed from home? Separated from Nunnally? It will have to do. ]

A detective. I suspect that played a part in why your sister chose her profession?

[She could support that, but there was another person from her world that Lelouch reminded her of that she was less fond of. Though she wasn't getting the same red flags that she got with him.]

That's good. I'm glad for that.

And I think you might be right. My father was excellent at bringing people to justice. Maybe my sister wanted to be the one to make sure that the people who were guilty was served the sentence they were due.

I am too. It has been long enough.

[ But the subject matter is a bit heavy for coffee, isn't it? Coffee that he's enjoying. Somewhat. It's not the same, but he's making do. ]

What about you, though? Has it influenced what you want to do with your life?

It has.

[She smiled.]

What about you? I confess I don't know as much about my savior as I would like.

Feel free to say as much as you are willing. This is not supposed to be an interrogation.

I can't say that there's much to me. After my mother's passing my little sister and I went to live in Japan. When Britannia invaded, we decided to stay. We still had some connections, and the founders of the Academy allowed us to stay on grounds.

[ The circumstances are complicated. If and when Makoto meets Euphemia, he'll be free to talk about it then. But not before. Lelouch offers a shrug. ]

Milly insisted I be on the Student Council with her. Other than that I have a bad habit of skipping or sleeping through classes because I don't particularly find the courses challenging and engaging. I think my grades are high, but I really don't know. One of my friends lectures me for running off campus to gamble instead.

I think I know a few people like you back home.

[She just smirks and takes a sip of her coffee. She had nursed it enough at this point that it had lost a lot of its heat by now.]

...Should I be offended?

[ No, really. Should he be? He isn't sure because of that look. ]

Hmm? Perhaps, but I doubt you will. After all, if a friend that cares about you won't get you to change your ways, chances are a stranger will fare little better.

[She sighs and her face softens.] I just hope that when you do find something worth your time it won't cause you or the people you care about trouble.

After all, you do have your sister to think about.

That's likely true. Although the concern would be touching either way.

[ Won't cause you or the people you care about trouble. A bit late for that, Lelouch thinks. Everything is now on a course that can't turn back.

Still, there's a soft smile on his face. ]

I always think of her. Both of them, really.
