What: Ganeshan, the resident Job Expert, will be taking the new arrivals around the the various Guilds so they can collect their chosen Job Asterisks as noted in their applications.

Enter the Master

[Each new arrival's iMog buzzes with a message instructing them to gather for a worldwide adventure to obtain the power of Vaikuntha. If they follow the invitation's instructions, they will arrive at outside of the airship hanger on the morning of the 15th, with their meager belongings packed.

An Enterprise-Class airship, the Ragnarok, hovers outside of the Curti Center. There is a flash of light on the top of the ship.]

"WELCOME!"

[A figure, minuscule at this distance, launches itself off of the ship and hurtles toward the ground. As he draws closer to the ground, he starts to flip, landing with a flourish. An armored figure, sans helm, turns his toothy Zora grin to the crowd. With a shimmer, his armor transforms into a white mage's robe, and he sends a rush of wind through the crowd for dramatic effect.]

"I AM GANESHAN, THE JOB MASTER! GYA HA HA HA! TODAY, YOUR LIVES WILL CHANGE FOREVER."

[Ganeshan shimmers again, ruthlessly abusing the Chemist's Modifier skill to once again shift Job Classes so he can lower the airship's loading dock with a wave of his hand.]

"I BELIEVE THAT EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU HAS THE ABILITY TO MASTER THE JOB CLASSES. SOME OF YOU MAY MASTER MANY, OTHERS WILL PURSUE THE PERFECT MASTERY OF JUST ONE. BUT EITHER WAY, YOU'LL BE INCREDIBLE!"

[Ganeshan gives everyone a big thumbs-up. The out-worlders who are not scared off by this booming speech can feel free to enter the airship and prepare for their ride around the world. Hopefully some of the Curti Center's newest hires can serve as non-crazy less exuberant tour guides for the new arrivals.]

Around the World

[The Ragnarok will be stopping at every major city in Vaikuntha, with the exception of those cut off by the Imperial border closing. Characters can create top levels to respond to the Guild prompts and explore the cities themselves as the ship makes its stops. Each Guild provides information sessions, free food and trinkets for potential applicants, and once you're ready to receive your Asterisk, all you have to do is take some introductory lessons and fill out forms. Characters can receive up to two asterisks. Time to get to know your new world!

I noticed the overlap. Lots that seems familiar, at least in the basics. Seems like everyone feels that, a little. Some more than most.

Aye. Almost everythin' I've run into here has been like enough to home to make the rest of it really disquietin'.


Even the jobs they're advertising are familiar. Well, most of 'em at any rate. Few I've not heard of.

The jobs are familiar to you? Interesting. I thought--well, nothing like that back home. You learn your skills through, er, learning.

More or less; Monks, Dragoons, Ninjas...they all exist where I'm from jus' not like this.

The asterisks are weird, though. Definitely not used to that.

That's the part that surprised me most. A lot of this shit existed on Exandria, but it took years to learn.

Fuck, I spent most of my life learning to be something like a ninja.

[Pause.]

Except for the frogs.

I recognize the frogs. I don't understand them. But I recognize them.

You a sneaky sort then?

A mix of sneaky, stabby, and scout ahead and disarm traps-y.

[He nods.]

Or find trouble and get into it first. I'm pretty fucking good at that, too.

I'm real good at that last one, but less so at the rest. Not patient enough to sneak, I think. Never had the sense for it.

Sneaking is an art. There's lots of art to get good at.

Not sure it's the best trait to share - so many of us who get into trouble, who's left to pull our hides from the fire?

Aye, and I'm mighty fine at punchin'. Just never had the feel for sneakin...I'd like to say I'd never needed it, but that would be wholly untrue.

[Vax laughs a little.] Sneaking is handy, but there's plenty to do without, too. You can... punch things? I heard about monks who do that, back on Exandria.

Sometimes, I kick, too.

...I suppose I'm a Monk here, as well now. Old habits.

Fist of Rhalgr sounds fucking incredible. Monk a little less.

[He shrugs.

There is, of course, the whole Raven Queen thing... but he's still not wanting to think about that.]

Maybe we could spar sometime? Try out the new... Asterisks?

Hey, if I do one thing well, it's Monk. The Fist....ah, they were somethin' back when I was...well, an infant, really.

Spar, huh? I'd like that. It'd be good to see what these Asterisks can do for us before somethin' bad happens.

Ah, like... they were an order, and stopped being one?

[He's not sure he gets it. His head tilts, but then he nods.]

Exactly what I'm thinking. I don't want to be caught figuring out what the fuck I'm doing when something attacks.

That's usually how this shit plays out anyways, but still.

They ah....The temple was razed and most of 'em put to the sword. A few of 'em survived, like the man who trained me, but the whole Order's been sundered, more or less.

Somethin' about the 'best laid plans,' hm?

Ah. [He looks more somber, then. He doesn't have an order--not really. He's not even accepted his role.

But from where he sits... yes. He can imagine it. He can imagine the pain of losing people; of losing his past. He knows that.

He frowns, then nods.] I'm sorry. The best laid plans aren't worth shit. It's up to people like us to fix them, when they fall apart, I guess.

[littlemhigan]

[ Castor manages a shrug, then shakes her head, as if banishing the thoughts from her mind completely. ]

No point in frettin' about it.

I could count the plans gone right in my life on one bloody finger, really. [ No prize for guessing which finger either. She manages a smile at Vax.] Ye sort of grow to expect everything fallin' te bits. And then we're all caught figurin' out what te do.

[Yeah, that's... that's not advice that Vax is very good at following, alas.

He looks back at her, then cracks a smile.]

True enough. If you expect it, then you're ready for it. Sounds like... you kept your studies going, though? Learned from that master who survived?

[She knows that mantra for what it is and has to resist the urge to grimace at it.]

The temple burned when I was still a babe in arms. I hardly even started all this until I was almost a grown woman, and most of it only in the last year or so. But aye, I learned from Widargelt, and now we learn from one another when our paths cross.

How'd ye get to sneakin?

Sounds about right.

[Vax tilts his head, then nods. The master learned from the student, too, it sounds like.]

I'm half-elven. My father was a rich asshole and thought himself important, so when he realized he had a pair of children off my mother, he sent for us. She agreed.

So I learned how to fight there. With blades, but it involved sneaking. After Vex'ahlia and I left Syngorn, a good while later...

[He shrugs.] I fell in with the wrong crowd. Sneaking was a big part of what they did. And other, uglier shit. I didn't get too wrapped up in that.

[littlemhigan]

[Well that explains his ears. She'd been curious, but didn't mean to ask.]

Half, huh? Ye don't see many half...well, half - anythings where I'm from.

[As he continues, Castor can't help her thoughts wandering to the Corpse Brigade that haunted her youth, and the myriad pirates, slavers and thieves that litter the streets of Limsa Lominsa and beyond.]

Human mother, elven father. It's... not kindly looked, where I'm from.

Vax considers, for a moment, and he looks at her. His eyebrow quirks -- and then he shakes his head once.]

I did. Vex'ahlia is my twin sister--and while I fell in with the Clasp... she didn't. It didn't make it easy to stay together. And it could have put her at risk. It was a stupid thing I did, but I was young. And angry.

[littlemhigan]

I know one half-elezen back home. She's somethin' of a hero to the smallfolk of Ishgard, but she's suffered her fair share o' dirty looks. So far as I know, most interracial pregnancies don't take, or don't last long.

Ye'd not be the first to be a young, angry fool. I'm sure we've all made a foolish choice to two in the name of survival.

Half-elves are common, on Exandria. But... not well-loved, either. There's plenty of us who're like me: pissed off at their lot.

[He cracks a smile, then.]

Insufferable, a pest, and fucking crazy. And I wouldn't change it for anything.
