Everything is a science, eventually. Magic isn't any different, especially if there is some sort of pattern or equation to it. Or, rather, scientific methods still apply when it comes to exploration and finding what works and what doesn't. Yet all technology requires some faith, doesn't it? Even if you know how something is supposed to work, you have to trust that it will.

"A little," he admits. "I was never into MMO's so I feel like I'm at a slight disadvantage."
