[The transition between unpleasant dreams and the waking world doesn't come easily. Uendo sits up groggily, blinking at the cot he's found himself in. Did he fall asleep in his stage kimono? More importantly, where is this? Waking up in a strange place with no memory of how he got there isn't exactly a new experience to him, but it's not one he's eager to live through again.
The video projection isn't quite as reassuring as its creators probably intended it to be, either. Planetside? Stardust?
Well, that's it then. He's finally cracked. All that's left to do is make a joke of it.]
Wait, wait. [Uendo waves at the nearest person who looks like they might be part of the crew (not that he can tell the difference).] Can we make a quick U-turn? I think I lost my marbles a few asteroids back and now I feel like a total space case.
[When in doubt, puns.]
[2. Curti Center & Moogle friend]
Don't worry, kupo! I'm here to protect you!
[The voice snaps Uendo out of his thoughts and he looks down. The moogle looks a little smaller and younger than most of the others, although that might be partly because he's practically drowning in an oversized scarf. He's making up for it by puffing out his tiny chest -- or what's visible of it -- in an attempt to look bigger. The unruly tufts of fur on his head and tummy are probably meant to help in this endeavor.
The end result is so adorable that Uendo can't help but grin.]
Aw, look at you! What's your name, little guy?
I'm Yotaro, kupo! And I'm not little! [The moogle huffs a bit.] I'm a professional, so you just leave everything to me, kupo! I'll look after you, kupo!
Yotaro, huh? [Uendo crouches down to pat his head. Aw, his fur is so soft!] I feel better already!
[Whatever objections Yotaro has to being petted and cooed at, he's certainly successful in cheering Uendo up.]
[3. Research Section]
[Now that he's in better spirits, Uendo has decided to take a look around the exhibitions. The confusion of the situation is a lot easier to handle when he just lets his sense of curiosity take the wheel.
He can be found wandering between the exhibits on airship design and asterisk studies, occasionally asking the staff some questions or commenting on one thing or another. Every now and then he mutters something under his breath when he thinks no one's within earshot. ("It's like something out of a video game, isn't it?" ... "You think?" ... "No, Patches.")]
[4. Gardens]
[It's almost dusk when Uendo finally finds a quiet spot out in the gardens. With no one around to see the mask slip, he sinks on a bench with a sigh and runs a hand over his face.
This is all real. There's no denying it anymore. So what does that mean for him? For them? Should they tell anyone? Should they hide? Who can they trust? Is it safe for Patches and Kisegawa to be out in the open? How long is he going to be here? Is he ever getting back home?
Would anyone care if he didn't?
Shisho is dead. Geiru is gone. There's no one waiting for him to come home, and his actions before and during the trial probably lost him more than a few friends. Would Simon miss him at all? Would he be better off just staying here, where no one knows him?
Lost in such thoughts, Uendo doesn't notice time passing. In the distance, the sea is reflecting the deepening orange hues of the sky. Butterflies flutter past, a few settling on his ponytail. Normally he'd be delighted, but right now, he can't work up the energy to notice.]
