"Huh. You got a point." It would be creepy, marrying a guy that really wanted to murder everyone or stuff his mouth with sunflower seeds. Was Yoshikage Kira like that when he was pretending to be Kosaku, minus the sunflowers? "But kissin' a hamster's gotta be weird."

"Kissing seems weird to me in general," S'reee noted.

[righthandstand]

"Yeah...but I heard it feels nice." That bastard Koichi, already kissing girls and being all grown up and stuff. "Don't whales do something do with people they marry?"

"We don't really get married. We form pods when we're starting to think about having calves, but..." S'reee twitched her tail. "We don't tend to congregate to celebrate that. We do have a lot of gossip, so there's congratulations in song."

Whales don't get married. Whales get into groups to have babies. With this information, Okuyasu concluded that whales were very weird.

"Then do you even have friends for the rest of the time?"

"Oh, yes. One of the wonderful things about the ocean is that it is easy to keep close to someone, even if you are swimming in different waters. Sound carries every well, even without wizardry, if you avoid the migrations of human boats." Yes, S'reee knows that isn't the right word, but at this point it is an affectation.

If people can migrate, why not boats? Okuyasu knows the definition of that word - it's basically describing how a large group of things move together towards a same destination. Birds migrate. Boats migrate. No faulty logic there.

"So you just yell at each other. Like phones?" He was learning so much about biology. Mr. Jotaro would be so jealous to hear that he was talking to a whale.

"Sing. Or if one is a wizard, one can ask the Sea to relay a message," S'reee said. "Even to a human's equivalent of an iMog slate if the user is a wizard."

Well, all right, one could probably work a spell to cause a message to appear on a mundane cell phone. It just wouldn't be particularly wise: most humans weren't considered currently culturally equipped for dealing with other species as equals. On the other hand, on the Internet, no one knows you are a whale.

"But with a phone, no one can listen in on what you're saying." He supposed that regular whales didn't care, but humans love to know what's going on in everyone else's lives. He spied on Koichi's first date with Yukako. He listened to high school gossip. Of course he was curious about other people, why not whales?

"That is true," S'reee said. "And we are gossips as much as humans are, so there is still some visiting in person."

Okuyasu turned his attention to his dinner, stuffing his face with finger sandwiches and grapes. Mognet was like the sea, in a sense. Everyone knew what you were saying; everyone with access could access it. Back in 1999 Morioh, people had to meet up in person to talk about anything important unless you were Josuke and were always on the phone. A world where communication was in a public place sounded scary.

"...Can you even eat any of this stuff?" He finally spoke up after halfway finished with his plate.

"Most of the meat," S'reee said. "I'm not set up to digest vegetables and grains, though. And I need to break it into pieces because I can't chew it." She parted her lips, showing the plates of baleen she had instead of teeth.

Okuyasu leaned back. That was not something he wanted to see close up.

"...Does that break a lot?"

"No worse than hair or fingernails, I imagine" S'reee noted. "So more than teeth do, but it grows back."

The images did not help at all, particularly as human hair and nails were not the same. Okuyasu winced. "Broken fingernails hurt like hell, what the fuck?"

"But humans cut fingernails, don't they?" She thought they did, which was why they didn't have claws.

[righthandstand]

"Yeah, but not the part stuck to your finger!" Instinctively, he grips his pointer and middle finger as if they were to be ripped out of his flesh.

"Oh? Ooooh... yes, I don't lose the base of the baleen. That would hurt."
