Having complied with Kuja's request to power down her iMog, Selphie settles herself in a seat to his right. Truthfully, the SeeD doesn't know a lot about Garland, but she's willing to provide what little she does know. Her fingers drum on the table briefly before she clears her throat to speak.

She might as well get the conversation started.

"Reno will likely know more than I do about Garland, but I'll share what I know. From what I understand, Garland was responsible for preserving life, no matter what the cost was going to be. He believed that it was impossible to break the cycle of destruction as it was called and thought the worlds that had already been devoured by Narayana were an acceptable loss if it meant saving Crystallis from destruction."

She looks over to Reno with a curious look to see if he had anything else to add.

Reno shrugged. He didn't mind the security measures at all -- in fact, he would have asked the same. Especially now that, once again, the Heroes had been used and spied upon by Kalki. Ramaa. Whatever she called herself here.

"Crystallis had apparently been in a cycle too, every two thousand years, with Garland continuing to come back each time. Kind of like how Ramaa has been, and now she's got her memories of it back. But they're not human." Reno paused for a moment and pinched the bridge of his nose. No, that's not the right way to put it. He'd met plenty of non-humans and it wasn't the same.

"Or rather... not organic?" Reno shook his head. "I'm not sure how ta' put it. But he was created by the last world's Ancients to try to save themselves."

He looked at Kuja curiously. "Why Garland?"

Kuja's fingers steeple together, a look of intense contemplation on his face. Knowledge confirmed, then. "According to Ramaa, Cid is Garland. Having- dealt with a man with the same name in the past and an alarming number of similarities, I thought it prudent to speak about this away from any possibility of prying eyes. She... implied that he would betray us, if we ceased being useful to his machinations. Even if it's a lie, it's worth taking the necessary precautions. I've invested a great deal in saving this planet and if it all comes to nothing I will be extremely annoyed."

Reno whistled. Cid? That was disappointing. Apparently it was too much to hope that Cid was just another Cid.

"Makes sense," he conceded. "If Kalki's back, then Garland would be, too. And if he's got his memories, then yeah, there's no real reason for 'im not to betray us in the end."

Reno cracked his knuckles thoughtfully. "Except... If Garland's whole purpose is to prevent the Calamity, an' the Calamity is kept at bay by the existence of Vaikuntha... Maybe we can swing this our way after all. Because like hell would he let Kalki-Ramaa-Whoever bring it back."

"Reno's right," Selphie agreed. "The last thing that Garland would want is another Calamity from the Skies. But if another one did happen, he'd stop at nothing to ensure that it would be reset in the end. Even if he had to kill all of the heroes to do so."

She nodded her head in agreement, a determined spirit shining in her eyes. "If we could negotiate some sort of alliance with Cid or Garland or whatever he wants to call himself, maybe we could work something out that would stop all of it from happening again. It won't be easy though."

No worries

"I doubt that negotiation will be on the table. I won't hold my breath, at least, but it would be best to keep an eye on him. Two, if they can be spared. The Garland I knew was a plotter; he bided his time until the exact right moment- and then he acted, swiftly, decisively, and without any mercy. We may need truly overwhelming force to have a hope against him- and for obvious reasons, this should be avoided being discussed over Mognet."

whoops my bad this time

Reno crossed his arms and leaned back, nodding in agreement. "Consider the eyes spared. If we can get a connection inside the Curti Center too, Garland won't be able to so much as take a shit without us knowin'."

He would have plenty of other eyes trained on Cid outside, too.

The redhead tilted his head as he considered Kuja for a moment. "Thanks for lettin' us know though, yo -- keepin' us clued in. I mean, it sounds dumb, but I mean it. Too many people get the wrong idea of tryin'a' handle something huge by themselves. Then we get screwed."

He was guilty of it himself in the past.
