Well, putting that aside... Kisegawa glances around one more time, just to make sure there aren't any other staff members nearby who might overhear them. The last thing they need is an uncontrolled rumor-mill on top of everything else. Telling Mogaruru has its own risks too, of course, but she's never given them any reason to distrust her.
And even if this backfires somehow, well... There will be other time loops.
"...Yes. The summoner is, without a shadow of a doubt, Empress Ramaa herself."
no subject
She frowned and tilted her head.
"If she's the summoner, then she must have had a reason to let you know. Please, tell me everything!"
no subject
"We'll be more than happy to tell you what we know," she began with a weary look. "But before that happens, could we move to a place that's more private?"
no subject
She nods and take them to her own quarters. The place is filled with Moogle dolls, plushies and posters. One such decoration in particular stands out on her bed, a life-sized moogle plushie with stripped purple fur, a top hat and a monocle. The wallpapers and ceiling light are also made of Moogles, and there are shelves filled with various books. There is also a computer and scientific equipment, though it all looks very old and rarely used.
"In my youth, I dabbled in science. I actually finished first of my class at university! But!" She makes angry motions. "I can't give up my calling as a Moogle for the sake of science, Kupo!"
She leaps onto a chair by her computer.
"Hrm, I mean. Please, tell me what you need to."
no subject
"Well... Embracing what you love is certainly an admirable trait." That's about all Kisegawa can allow. The room is endearing to be sure, and she doesn't mind Moogles, but it's all a bit... much.
Anyway, they have more important things to worry about than interior decoration. There's really no way to soften the blow or make the story any less unbelievable, so... Best to just cut to the chase.
"You're familiar with the legends of Kalki, the goddess of death, correct? Ramaa claims to be her reincarnation, reborn time and time again throughout Vaikuntha's history. She wants to bring an end to all life and in the process end her own suffering as well."
no subject
"Not all of it is legend, Uendo," Selphie confirms. "I was there at the end and watched it all happen. Kalki said that she was doing us a favour by ending existence and Ramaa seems intent on doing the same thing. Kalki said that there would be more calamities before she vanished..."
Selphie's face pales as her mind begins to spin with possibilities before asking thoughtfully, "if Ramaa really is Kalki, who's the real Ramaa?"
no subject
She lowered her head for a second, pondering.
"How did she destroy the world? Is it all Bahamut's work? Dangerous as the beast is, I could see it destroy every cities. But extinguishing life itself, it would require for it to attack every single inch of the planet. No small tasks even for a creature this size."
no subject
The words are muttered in response to Selphie's speculation. Are Ramaa and Kalki the exact same person, merely with a different name and face? Or was Ramaa born as herself, only to find whispers of someone else's memories sneaking into her mind until they felt like her own?
That thought is hitting a bit too close to home. Kisegawa shakes her head and returns her attention to answering Mogaruru's questions.
"You catch on quickly. She goaded us into unleashing our Melodies upon her. It appears our powers can change reality itself, and using so many of them at once in the same spot caused Vaikuntha to break down."
no subject
She looked at them with surprise, before tilting her head.
"Hmm, hmmm... Ganeshan had mentioned you had access to some special powers but..." She shook her head. "That's not a word I expected to hear here. At least that confirms the theory."
no subject
It was too much to process all at once.
"Expected to hear here...?" Selphie questioned finally. "What do you mean?"
no subject
Mogaruru moved about excitedly, pulling a black board out and making a very basic drawing of an atom.
"Well, most people will reply atom. And to an extent that's true. But then, what are atoms made of? Quarks, of course!" Cue the drawing of a Quark, with an arrow pointing to the atom. "And what are quarks made of? No one know! Maybe they're the smallest particle? But here's the trick! Some otherworlder have come from worlds where they pretend atoms did not exist. Yet their worlds, if their world was to be believed, wasn't that different from ours! So surely there must be something in common between all the worlds, something that goes beyond atoms and quarks, Kupo!"
She erases the atom and quark, draws multiple circle all around the board, then have arrows point toward the middle with a '???'
"So rather what stuff is made of, the question really becomes: what is the smallest elementary particle? What can you trace all of existence back to, no matter the world or place?"
She then erases the ??? and instead draws a waving line.
"That's where the ancient theory that says the basic of all existence are the Melodies. It's a bit complex, so to make it simple. Imagine little strings that vibrate. Any slight variation in vibration change the nature of the string. Like when you have an instrument. You can do countless different sounds with a mere string on a guitar. When a lot of those string come together, they create the higher forms of particles mentioned before: quarks and then atoms. But then there are more strings, more instruments. All of those come together and form the source everything. That's what the Melodies are."
A pause.
"It is my belief magic does not exist. Or rather, it does, but you can explain it scientifically. That's why the theory of the Melodies is so fascinating! A lot of otherworlders speak of the magic in their homeworlds, but what if it's just skilled people who manipulate the Melodies to their advantage? They call it magic because they don't know better. Of course, that gift is always very weak... But if someone had a mean of truly controlling the Melodies, they could be a god! You could do anything. Change an inanimate rock into a tree, revive the dead, create a new world... Or destroy one."
no subject
"So, if I understand this correctly... The Melodies are unique patterns of vibrations that give form to the elementary particles comprising each world? And since even the smallest variation in those vibrations alters the shape of the particle, the number of ways in which worlds can be formed is practically infinite...
"In other words, no matter what a world is made of or what rules it operates under, it's ultimately shaped by and held together by the Melodies. Is that what you're saying?"
