Anniversary Event: Defying Fate

What: The Heroes of Light relive the three days leading to the Apocalypse, again and again. With this come the chance for them to save the world, but also to explore opportunities otherwise out of reach. Will they find a way to save the world and prevent this terrible fate from coming true?

The other Serge gripped the hands of his compatriots, clearly excited about whatever might happen. Rufus frowned at the ceiling, disbelieving in this endeavor but waiting for the result. The woman's expression remained calm.

A dark energy was felt through the room. it seemed to center on the three Heroes of Light. A gray circle formed underneath their feet.

The woman smiled.

"Hell's Judgement"

A severe blast, much more powerful that Sephiroth had used in his time as Calamity Knight, emerged between Serge and Rufus both barely had time to react as they were thrown to opposite ends of the room. The woman set out two large Fire spells at their bodies, ensuring that they would be dead.

"Well. He was not wrong that I would be more powerful." The dark haze went away, and the sky, while still unsettling, lost some of the dark hue. The woman gripped her crystal and watched the scene.

A voice spoke from outside a side door, behind the throne. A deep, older man's voice. "You have done well, Lady Yunalesca. Very few are able to keep their word."

Serge stands there, for several seconds. He hadn't been expecting this to end happily, but he'd thought- something Narayana would have done, some way the plan had gone wrong, but-

They'd been betrayed.

"You... that evil- that-" He grits his teeth, clenching both fists. "How could you?! We could've helped, we could've stopped it, somehow, how could you just stand there and-" He'd died. No dignity, no justice in it- he and Rufus had died like- like they weren't even worth a second thought.

Sephiroth held an arm out to the side towards Serge and lowered it in a downward gesture as if to try to calm the boy, his own face not exactly empty of all expression as it had been before; the area around his jaw and eyebrows had certainly taken on a harder set. They were only here to observe this event, for reasons unknown, he didn't want to miss something because of Serge being outraged.

"It's not yet over." He tried his very hardest to take the edge of a vocal tone which was undoubtedly on the sharper side.

He cast his glance over towards the side door, eager to see whom it was with the deep voice -indeed the question running soon after through Sephiroth's mind wondered if it were any tone he recognized.

Yunalesca adjusted her Job outfit. "There was no other choice. My former compatriots were chasing a dead end and refused to listen to reason. If you present an option to stop the Calamity from devouring Crystallis, then there stands no doubt that I will follow you."

She stepped towards the entrance, keeping a respectable distance. "Garland."

A man wearing a large suit of armor emerged from the passageway. He held a regal air about him, his face serious and focused. He wore no helmet, so Sephiroth and Serge could see that he was an aged man. His hair was grey, and he worse a short-haired beared that was trimmed with utmost care. What was most striking, however, is that he resembled an older Director Cid.

"Come, Lady Yunalesca. We have work to do."

At this, the memory started to fade away.

Finn, who had given Okuyasu a strange look at the question, sagged in relief when the mechanic left them to their own devices. He was quick to get on board the ship, searching around for the droid.

"Bee? BB-8? Ah-!" The little droid rolled in from around the corner, nearly barreling right into him. Nonpulsed, he warbled up at Finn who then turned back to the others. "I think he says the cockpits that way. No one else on board."

Selphie was fully aware of the joys of war, but that didn't make her like it in any way. The life of a SeeD was also full of hardships that most didn't discuss and had brought about the notion to enjoy the downtime while you could.

Time loops on the other hand, were not at all.

"You could say that," Selphie responded. "WEAPONs, Iron Giants, Dragons, Sorceresses hellbent on destroying the world and all existence."

The young woman shrugged her shoulders. "Just a typical day at the office of a hero of light."

To Okuyasu, he had cleverly distracted the guard with his awesome question and saved the day. He should go out and infiltrate things more often. Man, they're such a good team.

BB-8 counted as part of the team. The brave little soccer ball was rolling right on in, and Okuyasu ran after him. They had to make a quick getaway.

"C'mon! Before he comes back!"

Minimus found himself curious about her comment. She called herself a hero of light, but no one spoke of the group fighting a sorceress on Vaikuntha. Either her comment was not carefully planned or he was missing addition information.

"A sorceress? Does she differ from Empress Ramaa?"

Selphie blinked at the misstep in her words. Now she'd have to explain SeeD's purpose. Whoops.

"She's from my world and I pray that she never comes here. I'm a mercenary from my home and it was part of our purpose as SeeD, that's our name, to stop the Sorceress at any cost. But we do all kinds of work, really! From battle support to information gathering and undercover work, there's really nothing that we don't do."

"Reno's right," Selphie agreed. "The last thing that Garland would want is another Calamity from the Skies. But if another one did happen, he'd stop at nothing to ensure that it would be reset in the end. Even if he had to kill all of the heroes to do so."

She nodded her head in agreement, a determined spirit shining in her eyes. "If we could negotiate some sort of alliance with Cid or Garland or whatever he wants to call himself, maybe we could work something out that would stop all of it from happening again. It won't be easy though."

"I doubt that negotiation will be on the table. I won't hold my breath, at least, but it would be best to keep an eye on him. Two, if they can be spared. The Garland I knew was a plotter; he bided his time until the exact right moment- and then he acted, swiftly, decisively, and without any mercy. We may need truly overwhelming force to have a hope against him- and for obvious reasons, this should be avoided being discussed over Mognet."

"Then, she has not thankfully arrived on this planet." Nor would she ever arrive, if time was repeating itself. They already had a great enemy to stop and require no other. "I did not know you had an ongoing war against the Sorceress, if you had a formal group dedicated to stopping her progress."

Organics lived for such a short time, but like Cybertronians, they restructured society when war was involved.

Cor's laughter seems to be verging on ending, but not well. No, it almost sounds like he's getting ready to sob. But that is timely paused by Selphie's arrival and quiet question.

"Hell, no," he spits out. "I'm gods-damned cursed..."

Selphie blinks several times, wondering where in the world that notion came from. She eventually shakes her head and looks up at Cor with a firm look. There's only room enough in this duo for one crybaby, but she can be a pretty blunt crybaby when she needs to be.

"Nah," she denies. "That's bullshit."

"I was part of the group that stopped her so we were way ahead of you there," she said with a slight nod. "So it's kinda finished in that respect."

If she were being completely honest about the whole thing though, it was more or less dropped into their laps. Besides, there were far more important matters to attend to on Vaikuntha. "Just like our problems here, dealing with that wasn't easy either."

"I cannot say how we will stop the Empress from destroying the world." They had not yet fought against her successfully, thus he was not certain of their future in this timeline. He hoped that this time loop would not repeat indefinitely.

"However, given your experience, what do you believe to be the correct course of action in this scenario?"

Cor stares at her like she's sprouted three heads with horns in that very moment. But then it clicks in his head that--oh, that's right; she doesn't know yet.

"It's not. Really, it's not. I'm called 'Cor the Immortal' back home. It's that kind of fuckin' curse..."

What was the correct course of action? It seemed that they were all destined to face the Empress every three days and lose until something changed. Selphie wasn't a tactician by any means of the word but there was something that she knew they could all do to try and improve things.

"Well, if you recall, a lot of things started to get really super screwy before we all went to Sen Riqueax. The sky slowly turning red being a biggie and all those people disappearing. So, I think it might be a good idea to start helping out wherever we can," Selphie reasoned. It was truthfully the only thing that she could think of.

Selphie gives his hand a firm squeeze before shaking her head. He can give her all the weird looks he needs to, but she'll never believe that Cor is cursed.

"Hmph," she scoffs. "It just sounds like you and I have the same kinda luck. It's pretty crappy luck, if you ask me but you're not the only one who bit it out there."

Reno crossed his arms and leaned back, nodding in agreement. "Consider the eyes spared. If we can get a connection inside the Curti Center too, Garland won't be able to so much as take a shit without us knowin'."

He would have plenty of other eyes trained on Cid outside, too.

The redhead tilted his head as he considered Kuja for a moment. "Thanks for lettin' us know though, yo -- keepin' us clued in. I mean, it sounds dumb, but I mean it. Too many people get the wrong idea of tryin'a' handle something huge by themselves. Then we get screwed."

He was guilty of it himself in the past.

"You have reason. We were entirely focused on the events in Sen Riqueax to the detriment of the remainder of this planet." He nodded. "There should be help in the cities to be found if we can prevent the terrible events from occurring. Unity with the residents of Vaikuntha should be utilized in breaking out of this cycle."
