Player Plot: Darkness

Who: Everyone who signed up
When: February 18th
Where: Great Cloud Observatory, Cloud City.
Warnings: Violence, gratuitous faux-Shakespearan dialogue that's probably not very accurate

When you arrive at the entrance to the Great Cloud Observatory on the appointed day, Corrin is already there; this expedition was her idea after all. She smiles as you approach. The square where the Observatory sits is otherwise empty save for her, and an old bearded gentleman seated on a nearby bench some ways away. He glances up at the growing crowd with disinterest, then back to his book.

Corrin, for her part, is in good spirits, a sharp contrast from the wreck she was only a few days before. "Good, you're here. Excellent, I'm glad you could make it. Once everyone else arrives, we'll enter the Observatory and begin our search. With luck, we should be able to find the entrance to Zodiark's temple quickly. Then the real work begins."

[After a trip to Yun'Ashia to reinstate herself with the Stave Master's guild, Selphie has acquired a much sturdier staff and the standard uniform. It should offer a bit more protection than her usual attire as she makes her way toward Corrin and the older man.]

Hey! Do we need any extra supplies at all?

[Afterwards, Selphie busies herself with studying the interior of the observatory.]

While Tressa was happy to lend a hand... she didn’t like the Replic of Safer. It was cold, and she was from a town that was usually warm. She’s traveled up north before, but she tried to make her visits as short as she could, due to her distaste for the weather. But here, she feared it wouldn’t be so quick, it would likely take quite a while to fully explore the Temple, let alone find it. Tressa shivered, letting out a deep sigh as she made her way over towards the rest of the group.

“Glad I could make it, too. Let’s hope everyone else does as well, soon. I’d rather not stay out here too much longer than I need to.”

[Terra looks kind of worn around the edges - and people who've gotten used to seeing him around may realize that they haven't, the last several weeks. But he's here now, in his own carefully-maintained armor, with his sword slung over his back. Possibly to no one's surprise, he's arguing with his moogle.]

I told you, I'm fine!

It's not about being fine, kupo! You need backup, kupo!

I have everyone here!

Not the way you have me, kupo!

Mogila, it's dangerous. Stay home.

Undyne groaned, already bored. She joined on this for excitement as well as to save existence, and here she was, listening to this old guy talk.

While waiting, Undyne pondered what "The entrance thou seekest is closer than ye realize" could mean. It could possibly mean that the entrance is just not at the very end of the Observatory, though it could also mean that the entrance could be right underneath them.

Why not test it?

Undyne kicked at the floor, trying to crack it, and break it to see if there are any temple entrances underneath her.

How long was this guy waiting if he's tossing thees and thous and hithers and prithees all over the place? At least he seemed to know what he was talking about. And wandering back and forth checking the walls and floors didn't sound like a fun way to spend an afternoon.

"Yeah, that'd--"

...a glance- and a befuddled look- was shot aside to the fish-lady stomping the ground. Not that he could fault her impatience, but...

"...probably be a good idea."

Even though the adventure hadn't exactly been thrilling up until now, Frisk has been having a blast. The observatory was so cool! Papyrus had instilled in them an excitement for science that was uncommon for their age, and it certainly showed as they gawked at displays and pestered busy scientists for questions.

As soon as the mysterious stranger shows up and starts talking, Frisk smirks and elbows whoever's next to them. "Betcha 500 gil that the old dude's actually Zodiark," they whisper. C'mon. He couldn't be making it more obvious if they tried. Frisk would eat their nonexistent hat if he didn't turn out to be the eidolon in disguise.

"Knowing how this world tends to work? I wouldn't be surprised at all," Kisegawa mutters back at Frisk. Sure, they can't know for certain this man is anything but benevolent scholar -- but really, is anyone going to believe that?

Speaking out loud, she addresses stranger: "And what should we call you, sir? You are no ordinary researcher, that much is obvious."

[Uendo -- or at least, someone who appears to be him -- arrives at the Observatory well ahead of time. An early bird is a well-prepared and mentally stable one.]

The last one, huh... This had better pay off, or we'll be in a sticky situation next month.

[...Not quite as bright and cheery as Uendo usually is.]

Selphie follows in a thoughtful silence as she listens to the information being provided. She understands that the others are starting to get impatient, but they still don't have all of the knowledge they require to even find the temple. It doesn't help that the old man in front of their group is speaking in riddles, but it's better than nothing as she casts a cautiously optimistic look toward their leader and the old man.

"Well," she begins. "Let's get this started."

Indeed... Though, will we be able to summon any other them either is something we should consider.

[Summoning the Eidolons normally present has been well and good, but Naoto hadn't exactly attempted to summon any of the Great Eidolons yet.]
whirluendo_of_puns: ([Kisegawa] looking comfy over there)

[personal profile] whirluendo_of_puns 2019-02-22 08:40 pm (UTC)(link)
I asked the Summoner's Guild about it earlier. According to them, calling on a Legendary Eidolon would most likely require the High Summoning ability.

Looks like we're not quite done mastering our Job, after all.

Terra turns with an audible sigh of relief and a friendly smile. "It's just Terra, please. It's a pleasure to meet you, Corrin. I-"

His large moogle, pompom dyed in electric blue streaks, cuts him off by fluttering into his face. "See, kupo? She said they need more help, kupo!"

"I'm sure she meant warriors, not civilians - Sorry, Miss Corrin, I shouldn't put words in your mouth," Terra adds abashedly.

"I'm not a civilian; I'm your backup, kupo!"

"We would very much appreciate your help, sir." Terra bows politely. This man seems very much like a wizard or sage, and such people are always to be respected - and not just because they generally know how to turn you into mice if you don't.
whirluendo_of_puns: ([Kisegawa] hmm... fascinating.)

To be honest... I'm not too optimistic.

[It had bothered her a lot, after they found Phoenix and came back none the wiser about what to do. But then...]

Still, that little girl seems to think we'll benefit just from waking up all of them.

Bowser watched what went on around him, then growled. “Well why don’t you hurry up and show us, old man? We don’t have all day!”

“Sir,” said Mogoom, “do you really believe that to be the best option?” Bowser stayed silent but looked away, arms crossed. “I apologise for his rudeness and impatience, please do not let it dissuade you. We would indeed appreciate anything you would offer us.” He turned to Bowser, “I will remain in the Observatory,” he said more quietly, “good luck, your majesty,” before leaving to check out other areas. Bowser remained where he was, still silent.

"Gonna have to agree with the giant shellbeast here," Tyzias says, voice dry as she glares at the Stranger. "In case you haven't noticed, we don't exactly have a lot of time to fuck around with cryptic bullshit. We got two months before the world blows up." At least her sudden onset existential dread (well, sudden onset vulnerability to existential dread, since she dealt with that stuff every day) had let up. Would've been bad news if she was laid out for this mission. "So we need to make this quick."

"Unless space is about to distort and two months will pass in the next hour, no one needs to be rushing forward. Besides, the other Temples had their monsters, puzzles, and traps... There's no changing that if they're also present here." If there were those sort of things waiting for them. Still, the urgency in some people might require her to wrap them up and she doesn't want to spend her silk doing that again.

... If that's what she believes. Still, having the ability wouldn't hurt.

Undyne continued kicking at the metal floor, bored out of her mind. She didn't seem to be making much progress either, as the floor was completely unscathed.

So she switched to repeatedly slamming the pointy end of her spear into the floor.

Eventually, she managed to make a small dent in the floor. She was getting somewhere, but this wasn't working very quickly.

Undyne decided to switch from jabbing her spear into the floor, to [Jump]ing and attacking the floor, creating a loud "BANG!" each time the spear hit the metal floor.
