Man the fort (Arito)

The sky is a deep blue when he steps outside of the house. The cold slaps whatever is left of sleep from his mind as he buttons up his coat. He thrusts his hands into his pockets and scans the area around him. Three identical spheres of interconnected plates of light are positioned at the cardinal points of the house. The mechanical lions of Red, Yellow, and Green.

A whisper of a storm brushes against his mind as he turns towards the only Lion that hasn't put up its barrier field. Glowing yellow eyes stare straight into his as the Black Lion rises from its sitting position to loom over its surroundings. A low rumble rolls through the air.

He sighs. Yesterday wasn't a dream. He walks towards the Lion and rakes his hair out of his face. This early in the morning his breath is a white puff of fog. "I'm tired of this. What is out there in the Dream width or here on this planet that keeps taking us? Finn was right we need to send some kind of probe into-" He shuts his eyes and sighs, his shoulders coming up as he turns his head away from the Lion.

He's chasing shadows and he knows it. This won't bring his people home. It won't save this world. He walks forward towards the beast as it lowers itself to the ground. "They'll be back. Until then, you and I have some work to do." Just in case it is time he seriously sat down and built a custom job around his skills, his time as a Paladin.

If Keith didn't return. He grits his teeth as the beast opens its mouth.

He would be the head of Voltron, one more time.

On request (Arito)

He's been chewing on what they learned on the venture he'd went on since he headed back. Even one lead is something to sink his teeth into. As long as he's working and moving there isn't time to think about after. Not yet. He's more than conscious that if he let himself the waters inside his head run deep and dark.

He hadn't allowed it back at the Garrison when his future was going up in flames and it won't be permitted now. To keep himself steady he's built up a routine. Send messages twice a day, head out into the city for six hours, train at home...he blocks out the schedule as he takes a turn on the street towards the Summoner Guild.

Practicing summoning hadn't originally been on his list but it has become a necessity. The summoning process takes a lot of energy. More than the Black Lion ever has. It requires training to handle it and like swinging a sword or learning how to kick without breaking your foot, that means practicing it. He approaches the guild slowly, glancing around to see who is about and reaches for the door.

Summoning has another important factor, he thinks as he holds the door open for anyone who was coming in behind him. Summons are beings in their own right and he has to build up a rapport...after all, they're teammates.

Steady on course. (Curti Center)
Just in case.

The words are muttered as Shiro adjusts his course to dodge someone coming the other way down the Curti Center hallway. He's striding with purpose towards the labs where all custom jobs are made.

He stops to discuss with the technicians that he intends to work on a Custom Job. All the skills they'd recorded from him last time are to be considered. The Black Lion is parked in the same place Keith put it when he made his own job.

Just in case.

The words are a mantra as he sets up targets in the center of the lab. The goal is to test his speed and reaction time. He can reference his memories to make sure he has it right. Shiro takes two steps back and his right hand ignites with purple light. A deadly hum fills the air. He surges forward like a bullet fired from a gun. He drops under a bar that sweeps left to right comes up to block its return sweep. He spins to face behind him and kicks out hammering the first target with a savage blow. It breaks under the impact.

So far it feels exactly as it would if he were back home. The lights go out. Time to be sure something else feels right. He closes his eyes and reaches down the link between himself and the Black Lion. A storm wraps itself around his mind and he opens himself to it. Yellow light cuts through the darkness as the Lion positions its head by a window.

"See through the Lion's eyes." He says, as he turns and brings his fists up. The next phase will begin once he's ready to proceed.

Adjust the heading (Arito)

He's starting to adjust to the hole left in his life. It helps other people have crowded into the house. He doesn't sleep in that empty bed. He bunks inside the Black Lion when he needs to retire for the night. He's not a recluse. If things go wrong he will have to work hard to return their bond to the level it was before he died.

It's an adjustment. In his sleep, he reaches for someone that isn't there. He's twice fallen out of bed in the dead of night. When a day off from work comes he's not quite sure what to do with it. Logic and schedule say he should wander the city but there's no Keith to walk with him.

In the end, he does it anyway. There's a cafe a block from the main library he had thought to take Keith to. Going alone feels surreal. He takes books with him. The cafe turns out to be a decent spot. It's not too far from the general populace but the fence around the outdoor tables sections them off.

Shiro sits alone drinking coffee and reading when he becomes aware of several people approaching. He raises his head. He recognizes them all. He's seen them through the cross hairs of the sight mounted on his magitek paintball rifle enough times. Mark is in the lead. He looks disheveled and a little confused. "Hey. ...what happened to the rest of your house?"

"They're in the dream width." He says it carefully. This is not what he expected today and his surprise is stamped on his face. Mark nods. "Didn't you just get together with the hot one?" His brain screeches to a halt. What? "...yes?" The college students exchange concerned glances. He catches flickers of sympathy. "We'll keep it down a week or two, okay? Take it easy, man."

"What?"
